I remember on a MN meetup ds3 fell for another family and we were V V uncomfortable that he wanted to be aorund them but we did offer many times to remove him; they were excellent with him and it was largely becuase they ahd DD (or DD's, can't quite recall) and ds3 likes anything and everything girly.

generally I try to beware of them adopting people, I think they generally prefer other aprents to us which I can quite understand (!), but I never know if aprents generally mean it really is OK when they say it or they are gritting and bearing it.

TabithaSmith · 28/02/2010 17:28

And PMSL at outed self, that was first post m'dear! But hello anyway, long time no see.

With four boys BTW you need psychiatric support, though that may just be me

Morloth · 28/02/2010 17:34

I don't know who was more freaked out at the playdate, me or DS, he just isn't used to such parental interest.

We were only there an hour or so, I had to get home to cook dinner or something...

largeginandtonic · 28/02/2010 17:34

LOL at ahundred

People look at me with all mine and i know the parents are thinking 'Oh she must LOVE children' and send theirs over.

In a word NO. I like my children.

squeaver · 28/02/2010 17:34

Oh jeez no. Snakes and Ladder is is strictly grandparents only territory around here, along with Dominos and - lately - Bingo.

First time I made my excuses and left was when the other mother started to read a story to us all, wtf?

pointysayhiphip · 28/02/2010 17:36

yabu.

Kids mill about and try to play with whoever looks most fun. That's what they do . Mill about seeking fun.

It is your responsibility to have a variety of snubs at your disposable. Or, if you are in a very public place and are playing a very communal sort of game, just let all the small people join in for two minutes before saying 'you all carry on, I am going away now'

largeginandtonic · 28/02/2010 17:36

Or they think i wont notice a few more.

I WILL.

on holiday some child befriended dh and kept coming over to his sunbed and sitting on his knee and striking his head
he was squirming helpless in his swimming shorts

she lurved him

parents found it highly amusing
dd did not and tripped her up with a strategically placed bucket and spade

yuk to other kiddy cling ons

parents go and get your children or at very least tempt them away with some LOUD PLAYFUL patenting of your own

MoreCrackThanHarlem · 28/02/2010 17:52

stroking not striking

MrsPotiphar · 28/02/2010 17:54

oh there are some kids that are adorable
spec if oyu have girls - litler girls love them
dont mind that
i DO mind the parent who make no effort to register it at all or say " oh thanks" or "ill take her away if she bothers you" or is just _-alive-- aware.

adn i LOVE board games,
we have even bought a scrabble dictionary
ds3 ( 6) got zen the othe rday

My Teen DD is a magnet for younger kids.

We go on your "ideal camping hols" in groups of up to 50 of us, so the kids do have their own cricket & rounders teams, build dens etc, and the Teens tend to look after the littlies whilst we parents drink wine and explain to the kds what great fun them doing the washing up together will be (it works too - kids all washing up together is a new game).

However, one morning at "too early fro the average teen" o'clock, a dozen small people all stood outside our tent chorusing "Is Milligirl coming out to plaaaa-aaay", so loudly that unrelated old couple in nearby tent complained!

MrsPotiphar · 28/02/2010 17:56

ah
its sweet sint it.
ds3 has a special teen age mate too on hol.
they hang out together.
poor milligirl though

in school holidays dd's presence is always requested at friends ante natal club coffee morning

tiny toddlers pin her down and dress her as princess aurora in bedrooms whilst mums discuss 3rd degree tears and cracked nipples in peace
