Right this post is just directed to those of you who think its ok to let your dog of its lead especially in the presence of others, i am so sick of dogs running over and scaring the hell out of my little boy, and when i say he really doesnt like them, the response is the dogs alright it wont hurt, you try explaining that to a 3 year who is shit scared and crying. And on top of that why do i want your dogs dirty scummy paws on my coat after the fucking thing has jumped up at me. Seriously some people dont like dogs, just remember that and have some sense, and those of you that do keep your dogs on leashes or at least under control, well done and praise to those who pick up the dog crap, and shame to those who dont.

anonandlikeit · 26/02/2010 17:08

Totally agree... animals are for farms & other useful things.

I do not what a dirty smelly dog jumping up me & licking me after it has licked its own arse after having a shit!

And I knwo all the dog owners will say "but my dog is clean" ffs they are animals, they don't wipe their arse or use a bidet, take their paws off before they come in doors or jump up you.

If you want to own an animal either have a HUGE garden or kepp it on a lead in public.

anonandlikeit · 26/02/2010 17:09

I was so "on my soapbox" then all my typing & spelling went all strange

libEL · 26/02/2010 17:13

Think it depends on location the dog is being let off the lead. There's a guy in our town who lets his HUGE rottweiler (sp) walk around without a lead, seems a perfectly well behaved dog but always makes me a little nervous and when dd was going through a stage where she was terrified of dogs I dreaded seeing this guy and his dog as dd would become hysterical. However if it was the local playing field or woods I guess I would be expecting to see dog walkers with dogs off leads.

Tiredmumno1 · 26/02/2010 17:13

Lol anon, its so disgusting when you put it like that but so bloody true

I loathe dogs

and dog owners like the ones you mentioned

A big dog with a child is like us being chased by a horse

AmazingBouncingFerret · 26/02/2010 17:20

You know what pisses me off?
DS has just started nursery, the route is riddled with dog crap. Now it would piss me off enough if said dog crap was left in small piles at edge of path, but no, one arsehole dog owner obviously knows he/she is being a lazy irresponsible shitbag so therefor drags his/her dog along whilst the poor dog is trying to have a poo and then the pavement is littered with little dollops of crap that is nigh on impossible to avoid with a 3 wheeler pram and 3 year old DS!
Grr
Rant over.
Hate dogs jumping up aswell, would never let my dog get away with it!

Tiredmumno1 · 26/02/2010 17:27

Just like the route to our school ferret, its disgusting especially when others tread in it then scrape it off their shoe in the middle of the pavement, which makes it worse

I'll never forget the time, when we had our front door wide open, as my husband was in the garden and it was a hot summer day. We had quite a large front garden, and my son was just learning to crawl around. Our cat was sat in the front door, all of a sudden i hear a shout, and a huge dog came bounding into our house, going straight for the cat! It ran out, and i went outside, and the owners of the dog had kept on walking!
They only apologised when they saw me come out and look at them! They did not care their huge dog had gone for our cat, or that we had a crawling baby in the house! They clearly had no control over their dog if it would go for another animal like that, and into a house! But they did not even have a lead with them!

givecarrotsachance · 26/02/2010 17:40

Huge dog fan here. Have one, love him to bits.

I would never allow him to run up to anyone, adult or child. He's friendly, but why would I want to inflict him on someone else, especially someone who a) doesn't want his mud or hair and b) may be scared of him. That's just bizarre.

If I see a kid that's scared of mine, I will reassure them that he's fine but I WILL keep him away.

I always clear up his mess. I don't see parents dropping their babies nappies on the ground (although raw sewage in landfill from disposables is just as bad, but that's another gripe).

I hate it when parents allow their kids to run up to my dog. It's rare, but it happens. When they're on the lead that's when they're likely to be most at risk of being bitten.

I hate it even more when dog owners let their dogs run up to mine when mine is on the lead (he's aggressive with other dogs due to being attacked by dogs 4 times) and when I ask them to keep them away, they say the same thing, "s/he's friendly, it's ok", even though mine may be growling and looking unhappy.

YANBU at all.

NestaFiesta · 26/02/2010 17:48

YANBU- just cos the owner loves their dog doesn't mean we all bloody have to.

An Alsation ran up to my son and licked his face when he was just two and the owner was all apologetic but laughing as if to say "what can you do eh?". I was literally rendered speechless.

thesunshinesbrightly · 26/02/2010 18:03

Well can you please control your children, my poor dog doesnt like to be touched by children with dirty, sticky hands! please and thankyou

TrinityIsFuckingTrying · 26/02/2010 18:05

HERE HERE

I would like to please ask people to stop there kids from running up to dogs and petting them without asking the owner

my dog is fine, others aren't and it confuses my kids who are taught never to approach dogs without talking to the owner first when other kids just run striahgt up to our dog

WildSeahorses · 26/02/2010 18:07

Hate it when people don't control their dogs in public (or clean up after them). Gives all decent dog owners a bad name. If you can't be arsed to train it and clean up its mess, don't get a dog - simples. And I say this as a dog lover...

EmmaBemma · 26/02/2010 18:09

it's "hear hear", not "here here"

But otherwise, YANBU

MrsSawdust · 26/02/2010 18:14

God yes, thesunshinesbrightly and trinity, why does everyone's kids think my dog wants to be petted by them? My dog is terrified of kids - she only just manages to let my dd stroke her. I've lost count of the amount of times I've been walking through our local park and end up fending off small children who INSIST on chasing my poor dog round and round my legs while she cowers and cringes to get out of their way

thesunshinesbrightly · 26/02/2010 18:14

Strange when you are on a walk and your dog is trained and also when on a lead, you still get excited, bouncy little people coming to stroke your dog after telling them not to touch!! people control your off springs pleeeease.

notsoteenagemum · 26/02/2010 18:15

Yanbu
Once when we were on the beach the people sitting next to us let their dog keep running up to us and jump around, even though DD 2 at th time was clearly petrified so my Dad ran up to them started panting and jumping around where they were sitting!
When they looked he said how do you think my grandaughter feels, I was but they did put the dog on a lead!

Sonilaa · 26/02/2010 18:16

or even worse, dogs an a lead by a person not suitable to hold the animal. In our area a huge bull terrier with an old gent. He sometimes gets dragged across the street. sooo dangerous.

notsoteenagemum · 26/02/2010 18:17

Sadly I was unable to put my Dad on a lead

wannaBe · 26/02/2010 18:17

I don't even allow my dogs to jump up at me let alone other people.

But I do agree re children running up to dogs they don't know, allowing a child to do that is just as irresponsible.

wildfig · 26/02/2010 18:19

YANBU but I don't think there's a dog owner on MN who does think it's acceptable to let their dog run around and jump on people...

Tiredmumno1 · 26/02/2010 18:23

Our field has a football pitch and surrounded with parks which are for kids imo. There are plenty of places round here to walk dogs where you wont find kids.

I love dogs, and have owned some pretty big mutts myself (rottweilers and german shepherds), but I would never let one jump all over anyone - including myself! I always kept them on a lead until we were in an area where it was safe to let them run around.

I vividly remember nipping over to the park when I was about 14 to have a crafty fag to play on the swings when two enormous rotties came haring towards me. Their owner yelled 'don't run' at me and carried on wandering around. I was crapping myself and stood as still as I could, but one of the dogs jumped and knocked me over before the owner finally shuffled over and grabbed the dogs by the collar. He then said 'I told you not to run' and buggered off. I was gobsmacked. Didn't put me off dogs, just stupid fucking owners.
