Hello
have 3 yr old girl and 10 month old son

on way home from nursery 3yr old had hissy fit in middle of road whilst we were crossing, rainy weather, stranded in road with buggy and road thrashing daughter whilst there was an on coming motorbike! Spanked said daughter and put her straight to bed. Never done either before.......feeling bad. She did go straight to sleep. Need some support or am I just bad?

Give yourself a break. It's awful weather, she was being a pain and you were scared. Put it down to it being a rubbish day in February and have a nice glass or 2 of wine cup of tea.

junkcollector · 23/02/2010 18:45

glass or two of wine

pranma · 23/02/2010 18:45

You are human, many would do the same and she will wake up as right as rain I am sure.No one here would advocate spanking as a regular thing and I am sure you wont do it again-hopefully neither will she!

junkcollector · 23/02/2010 18:45

nope. Can't do the strike through

verytellytubby · 23/02/2010 18:47

The only time I've smacked one of my boys is when he ran off in Tesco's and nearly got hit by a car. I was angry and frightened. It's a natural reaction. I was spanked a lot by my parents (different parenting) and I love them dearly.

Pour yourself some wine.

SpicedGerkin · 23/02/2010 18:48

jc - You need to do it before and after every word like glass or two of wine

OP - We all have rubbish days AIBU probably isn't the best place to post if you're looking for some support.

orienteerer · 23/02/2010 18:52

First of all welcome to Mumsnet
You're not a bad Mum at all, we've all been there (hissy fit in road etc). Have a glass of wine

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/02/2010 19:00

Yes, threenagers having a hissy on a crossing is my personal favourite, along with headbanging a pavement.

We all understand. She probably went straight to sleep because

a) the tantrum tired her out or
b) the tantrum was a result of her being tired in the first place

If you need advice about future events, Behaviour/Development or Parenting is the place

Prinpo · 23/02/2010 19:04

Hello and welcome. She'll be fine - remember that kids don't have that whole internal anxiety about what constitutes good parenting or bad parenting that we all have. For her it was a one-off horrible experience all mixed in with her hissy fit and now it's over and life goes on as normal.

Have a lovely evening and recover from a crappy day.

And, of course, drink some wine.

goblinsmummy · 23/02/2010 19:17

Wow
what a great response. Can't believe I haven't tapped into this wealth of experience before. Thank you for comments, feel a lot better. And she is still sleeping. I should add that I went in 10 minutes after she was put to bed to give her a hug and tell her that I love her and she responded by giving me a lovely sleepy lovey hug back
Vive la moms
xx

goblin MN is the go-to place when you have smacked your DC and are feeling crappy [grin

Only joking. It's a very hard stage you are in now. My DSs are 2 and a half years apart. Wish I knew about MN then ....

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/02/2010 19:36
Grin
goblinsmummy · 23/02/2010 19:48

lol at all the instructions to drink wine... this is optional you realise, we are not encouraging you to medicate yourself with alcohol.

sugartits · 23/02/2010 20:05

As my DH tells me in these situations - A bad Mum wouldn't care.

Undercovamutha · 23/02/2010 20:09

Your DH is a wise man Sugartits (love the name btw!). We've all been there Goblinsmummy (well I have anyway). Try not to be too hard on yourself.

sorry, someone aleady linked!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/02/2010 20:21

Blimey, this is all very convivial for AIBU. Must be the wine.

junkcollector · 23/02/2010 20:27

Digression- We have no wine so I am drinking cheap mini beers from Sainsburys that we still had in the fridge from the other week with Blackcurrant juice. It's horrible but DP said the BJ would add an exotic flare and that we can have wine on Friday when he gets paid. Bloody February!!

Jamieandhismagictorch · 23/02/2010 20:29

junkcollector Yes, a Blow Job certainly would add exotic flair to some cheap beer. You DP is certainly no fool .

< has had too much wine >

junkcollector · 23/02/2010 20:31

I'm not keen on frothy beer.
