About 10 months ago bought a MLC type car - not new but low milage and bit of a wow car. DW at the time not too keen on the reg (BJxxxxxx) and at the time had 2nd thoughts. Now she loves going out but seems to have gone off driving it a bit (was not too happy when she dropped it off the curb once) - OK AIBU on that - just asked her to be more careful.

Anyway - had to go to dealers to sort out a minor error message and got chatting tot he salesperson that sold me the car - said they had some very good deals and could do a trade up at little change to the monthly cost. In principle it was all OK, new car with bigger engine, more toys BUT not in preferred colour. Managed to find something close and agreed to swap.

Asked DW to pick the new Reg number from list and DW was non too happy about why needed to swap etc. Its not directly a money issue as I pay for all of it.

So should it have been a nice surprise or should DW have agreed the swap and the colour too??

When you say the new colour is 'close', do you mean, as my DH usually does 'completely different, not even in the same ball park'?

SexyDomesticatedDad · 23/02/2010 17:32

DW actually would like to get the TT, she suggested that as the MLC car, until we discussed the practicality of it!

No plans on further upgrades but IF it is a possibility will consult DW first and get her into the showroom before me!

DW prefers the MLC in black (as I do) new one is in a sort of dark grey but has the same interior (more or less).

oh stop trying to fob us off! DW wants the TT - yeah I think we all would love a TT...so instead of her loving the TT and you buying it, you went and got an upgrade to her banger! nice one! so thoughtful of you

SexyDomesticatedDad · 23/02/2010 17:49

Cgirl, DW does like the TT - honest! MM - is not a banger and still runs fine!

In a couple of years it will get upgraded too.

years!!!!!! years!!!!!!! thats ages away!!!!

SexyDomesticatedDad · 23/02/2010 18:20

cG you are young - we are not so young ......a couple of years is not much to wait.

Chellesgirl · 23/02/2010 19:07

yeh but it is to your DW... she has to have that TT now so she can have the sun blazing off it, and her gorgeous hair being blown at by the sea breeze while shes touring the costa blanca ;) and having all them sweaty spanish gyus stare at her...before she gets all her wrinkles!

SexyDomesticatedDad · 23/02/2010 19:13

cG -I think that's your fantasy.......

DW prefers to be less flirtatious - maybe the French coast tho'. I showed her some pics of the prototype Jag C-Type - so if they'd commit a date for that we can start to save our pennies pounds.

shame you could always buy my ford puma for £1000 lol...great 'family' coupe! its got a lots few dents and scrapes but runs like a dream! lol.

No my fantasy is to one day own a Land rover discovery -phantom in brillian white, to see it on the 'rocks' driveway next to my home in the USVI..hehe

French men are worse!!!!! arent they known for romance??? Id be careful there ;)

SexyDomesticatedDad · 23/02/2010 19:26

twotimes · 23/02/2010 19:33

don't get it, if you have your car, she has hers, not noticeable difference to cost, what's the problem??? Unless she wants an upgrade too?

SquashysMum · 23/02/2010 19:54

ha ha ha, sorry but if it's your car... if it's a better one for not much more outlay isn't it a no-brainer!!

You considered her with regarding the reg as you knew she was unhappy about the last one, but please!!

Enjoy your new car!!

providentielle · 23/02/2010 20:05

Although you say there's little difference to monthly cost doesn't it start the term of the loan over, so you are in fact paying another ten months of payments for the new car?

Chellesgirl · 23/02/2010 20:09

DW new runabout - one day - very nice... I hope you decide not to upgrade to the new jag XK new xk, now thats a MLC car!

SquashysMum · 24/02/2010 20:13

Oh and by the way... my TT's for sale!!! ha ha!
Nice little Roadster, but in blue!! ;)

Pozzled · 24/02/2010 22:11

If it's your car, and the monthly costs are pretty much the same, then I think you are perfectly entitled to make the swap. But I would certainly discuss something like that with my DH first and would expect him to do the same, so I can see why your wife is annoyed. And if you are adding another 10 months of payments, that is a fairly important difference isn't it?

Have you actually asked talked to your wife about WHY she is 'not too happy'? Would your time not be better spent having that conversation instead of asking on here?

Chellesgirl · 24/02/2010 23:22

I think he was just trying to see if anyone female would actually agree with him and then he could go back to his DW and say shes being outrageous/hormonal ;)

This thread is definitely 'Weird shit mundanes do' discussion of the week.
I mean, it's like a completely, utterly, alien world....
