I mean it ain't pretty and is about something that happens thousands of times every day and has done for millions of years.Boring, boring, boring !

OP posts:
BrahmsThirdRacket · 17/02/2010 17:44

People are nosy.

MaisietheMorningsideCat · 17/02/2010 17:46

Wonder away - but as they say, if you don't like it, switch it off. There are plenty of things on other things on TV which happen thousands of times every day and which have been done for millions of years.

agedknees · 17/02/2010 17:46

Was a midwife for 10 years. Birth is never boring. Every birth is different. Was exceptionally grateful that couples allowed me to be part of their birth experience.

Every birth I attended humbled me.

Had to give it up due to ill health.

Princess - did you think your labours/childrens birth where boring?

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 17/02/2010 17:47

It happens thousands of times a day and has for millions of years, but most people have never seen it happen in real life to anyone except themselves. It's interesting and emotive. The everyday miracle.

I don't know how you can class a birth as 'boring'. There is nothing more amazing than a new little life appearing; and in spite of the labour, the look of absolute joy( and relief!) on the Mother's face.
It's also really interesting how each couple deal with the labour and birth. I am fascinated by it.

[yawn]

standandeliver · 17/02/2010 18:16

My own births have been the most thrilling days of my life. I also feel very privileged to have attended other births as a doula. I agree with agedknees that it's a humbling experience. I also find labouring women and new mothers absolutely awesome.

I hope I never find birth boring!

displayuntilbestbefore · 17/02/2010 18:17

yanbu

There's a big difference between experiencing your own deliveries, giving birth to your own babies, and sitting at home watching a bunch of media crazed women who didn't make it onto Big Brother grunting away during their own labours IMO.

onehotmama · 17/02/2010 18:23

Yeah apologes for my post. Reading it back I sound like I am a guest on Oprah.
When I was pregnant I couldn't watch any birth programmes. I didn't even do any ante natal classes. Naughty me. But now it's all over I can freely admit I am a nosy woman and fascinated by it all.

LynetteScavo · 17/02/2010 18:27

What a bloody stupid OP.

mojomama · 17/02/2010 18:29

i've actually found it really cathartic: had a v traumatic birth experience myself and have found it really reassuring to think it doesn't have to be so stressful and that most people get to hold a healthy baby immediately after birth. it still makes me sad to recall the immediate aftermath of my son's birth, but i'm definitely glad i've watched this so far.

fwiw, i think it's made by The Family people, another lovely, moving but simple film, intelligently edited.

ShowOfHands · 17/02/2010 18:29

Oh women interested in babies and birth would never happen.

OP you're on the wrong forum.

pigletmania · 17/02/2010 18:30

No I love watching it, every birth is differnt, its just fascinating imo.

NonnoMum · 17/02/2010 18:55

I'm a bit worried how fascinated I am by this programme and other birthing programmes (Discovery Home and Health, if you're interested).

On fact, I am SO interested, I am considering re-training as a Midwife (if only I could afford to). Please Midwives and ex-Midwives, tell me I'm being stupid and it's just a phase due to my own (v recent) birth experiences???

JaneS · 17/02/2010 18:55

Apart from anything about the excitement of birth/ seeing mums and dads with new babies, it's really interesting TV. I didn't have any sense of how it might work to have an emergency c-section (despite reading the description my friend got from the NHS, which I assume was up to date). I didn't know induction sometimes doesn't work straightaway. Sure, I could have researched more and found these things out, but I thought the programme was great all the same.

violethill · 17/02/2010 18:57

I wouldn't want to watch it. My own births were exciting to me, but I have no wish to watch other people's births. But then I think there's far too much reality TV on anyway.

But horses for courses, some people obviously love it!

BuzzingNoise · 17/02/2010 18:58

YANBU. I can't think of anything worse.

vjg13 · 17/02/2010 18:59

I don't like any of these cheap tv programmes were they put cameras into hospitals and see what happens...

Refused to have my daughter filmed during a stressful day at a children's hospital however entertaining other people may have found it.

2shoes · 17/02/2010 19:00

what riven said

Morloth · 17/02/2010 19:07

I find birth very interesting and as I am 36 weeks and never given birth in this country and have had bugger all to with the NHS before now, it is also helpful to get a feel for it.

Things I have learned: Take snacks; take a pillow; don't go to hospital until absolutely sure you are almost there; midwives are much the same here as they are in Oz.

mii · 17/02/2010 19:10

riven, you don't have to answer if you don't want to, but I had seen you mention before about DD's birth, do you mind telling me what happened?

I am booked in for a HB soon so am just being nosey, sorry!

mintyfresh · 17/02/2010 19:54

I'm also with Riven - having had things go horribly wrong I'm not revisiting that experience again thanks!!

I prefer to watch comedy to get away from it all personally - or a really crappy chick flick

NeedCoffee · 17/02/2010 20:03

I had to keep turining it over as I couldn't bear to see the girl in pain, then I realised OH was taking notice and thought it was probably a good idea for him to watch as he has never actually been at a birth before!
