to wonder why lottery winners want publicity?

Friday's Euromillions winners - names and photos all over the papers and news. Now everyone will know who they are and what they have. DCs schoolfriends will all know.

Just don't understand why they would want people to know. Opens up a whole can of worms wrt jealousy, people trying to get money out of them, potential kidnappings etc. Same with the woman who won 36 mill a few years ago. She said her DS would not move schools so why would she publicise the fact she now has loads of money and therefore create potential problems for her DS??

It would be wonderful to win but I think all the publicity about it will not create happiness for them in the long run. Why not keep it quiet - just don't get it. AIBU??

Aye absolutely, that's what I thought too! Phil has better taste himself.

Good point Clumsymum, but pre lottery win he was grateful that she'd stayed with him. She said jump and he would go do whatever she wanted.

Post lottery win when she only wanted to be with him, he was showing her how being cheated on felt, knowing fine well she wouldn't leave him....so his win definately changed the "demographics" (is that the right word?) of the relationship - he is now the boss.

if he won whilst married, surely she could divorce him for half of it as gained during the marriage?

Spacehoppa · 17/02/2010 19:36

I don't know really, personally I would be very incined to be secretive about it...and no I haven't won a million pounds recently but then if I did I would be very very quiet about it. Possibly somewhere sunny...

They're not married, though they had been discussing it for years.

I'd be quietly terrified.

it would be obvious we had won as we have sweet f-all so being able to buy our own home is a dream.

it would be fantastic though.
