Ok, so I've had a few - 7 in 2 years but I just can't get it right!! My DH is no longer speaking to me and I can't really blame him for getting mad but with the benefit of hindsight I wouldn't have bought most of them.

Problem is, dd is 2.8 and can't walk far due to low tone and hypermobility so we DO need one. Maybe I should just make do with one of the others AIBU???

YANBU
I've gone through at least 20, and DS3 is only 14 months . I still can't find the perfect pram for him.

I have a Baby Jogger City Mini atm, and think it is better than a Maclaren. I've had 3 macs and can't get away way with them.

nomorecake · 13/02/2010 23:54

i have been looking a a third pushchair for us today.

1st: was a chameleon. love it but only use it occasionally now. its quite bulky and faffy to take everywhere so..

2nd: was a Mac. quest. love it. easy fold up. light, chuck it about.

but i'm thinking of getting a double now. i'm due in a few months with dc2. and dc1 always fall alseep when we are out.

DH keeps looking at me like . but as soon as he has to start carrying dc1 everywhere, i'm sure he'll see my point!

the only thing is i'm reluctant to sell on the other puschairs!

screaminEagle.
thats exactly what i've been thinking.
i'll keep single buggies, because ds might get to a stage where he wants to walk.

or dc2 could go into a sling at a few months old for short trips.

its unlikely that i'll have only 1dc with me though!!

i'm watching a couple of double buggies on ebay, i'm hoping to get a bargain, but i never seem to on ebay!! just my luck!

CardyMow · 14/02/2010 02:44

After 12 years and 3 dc's...I have managed to get through...27 buggies. Mostly secondhand, but still! 27. Hated all the Gracos I've had, they're all flimsy. Maclarens were ok. Silver cross buggy was brill. The toys r us ones were rubbish, had a 3 wheeler for 2 weeks realising it doesn't go on public transport. Had 2 different double buggies for the boys, a one-in-front and a side by side. One in front was awful, I was having to jump in the air to get the front up the kerb, and then lift like a weightlifter to get the back up as DD was still using a buggy board due to her hypermobility. Side by side was an improvement. P&T's didn't come out until DS1 was well out of a buggy unfortunately. The first time I saw one I burst into tears and sobbed "why wasn't there one of those when I needed one!". So am assuming that if I ever got to the point where I had (another) 2 dc's close together that I'd get a P&T. Then went onto a tatty no-name buggy from Argos while waiting for a Mac Major for DS2.

Definately NBU. At all.

momofnearly2 · 14/02/2010 08:41

I had 5 buggies in 5 months. Ds is now 10 months old so the 5th buggy is obviously working for me.

I bought an old Silver Cross Coach Built pram which I loved but then we moved and it wasn't suitable any more.

Then The Silver Cross Linear Freeway which was great when I wanted him to Lie Flat but was crap as a pushchair.

Then I had a Blue Loola Up which I Hated Hated Hated with an absolute passion.

Now I have a little Bruin Pronto little star stroller which for £50 was a bargain and it stay's in the car and the one I use ALL the time is my

Britax Vigour 3+. Parent Facing, 3 Wheeler, Lovely to push, Spacious Seat unit, Huge Hood, compatible with carrycot (can also be used a carseat) and a normal car seat. I love it and will be using it for DC2 even though Ds1 will only be 18 months old.

So no YANBU it can take many prams to find the one that you really love and is prfect for your lifestyle.

Runoutofideas · 14/02/2010 08:55

I really don't get this obsession with pushchairs. I bought a M&P pliko pramette 5 years ago and it has been used everyday since then and is still being used for dd2 who is 2.5. We had a brief time where we needed a double buggy when dd2 was tiny, so borrowed one, but apart from that, that's it!

So many more interesting things to spend money on in my opinion!

diddl · 14/02/2010 10:21

I had a Silver Cross Classic Sleepover.

When baby was born, toddler-21months walked.

zubin · 14/02/2010 10:34

YANBU I had 14 prams/pushchairs for ds and I am not in the slightest bit embarrassed - I sold them when I no longer liked them, dh only got a bit annoyed when I insisted the last was the last only to hate it and buy another - it was a zapp though, the worst pushchair ever and a complete waste of money.

flaime · 14/02/2010 12:15

Wow I feel like a real cheapskate now - we had 1 chico pushchair which you could put a car seat on, and 1 lightweight stroller and that's it. These lasted me 3 kids and nearly 8 years

I have to admit seeing the fab looking ones around now I'm broody for another pushchair myself, just don't want another baby to go with it

beammeupscotty · 14/02/2010 12:21

one 17 month old = 3 prams .... so far

lovechoc · 14/02/2010 12:47

YABU just buy a pram/buggy and make it last as long as poss.

I have a silver cross pram (also converts into a buggy like most of them do) and also a cheap buggy for the boot (Hauck). Sadly the Hauck buggy is falling to bits after 2 years so I'm looking around for a new buggy for the boot. Today I saw one for £50 in Toy r us in the sale. I think it was a Bruin buggy. One of the cheapest because I can't bear to part with anything over £50 for a buggy.

I think you must be mad to go through so many just for the sake of it. Fair enough if one was faulty or broken it's a good enough reason to buy a new one, but come on, 7 in 2 years??

mamamuffin · 14/02/2010 13:07

He he, I totally understand this pram thing.

I have had 6 prams for two ds
Pliko first one now used for holidays as dont mind it being bashed about.
maclearen xt now in grandparents boot
Graco duo which I was given and now have gave away.
silver cross coach (thats a family thing) but ds sleeps so well in garden in it.
bugaboo chameleon that I love but is a bit big for everyday.
Now have bugaboo bee which I use daily but ds16 months wont have long in it. Phew!
I feel better now its out in the open

izzybiz · 14/02/2010 13:31

YANBU, I had Ds1 in 1992, for him I had
Silver cross pram, Maclaren pushchair, A Mamas and Papas pushchair, a big German pushchair that I cant remember the name of! These were all 2nd hand, then I bought a brand new Britax buggy and he also had a couple of strollers!

With Dd born 11 years later, we bought a M&P 03 series ttravel system, a chicco stroller for holiday, then changed to a pliko, then a Zapp, to a micralite fast fold, then back to the Zapp!

With Ds2 who is now 17 months, I bought the Micralite Toro, pram/pushchair before he was born, he was too big for it in a matter of months so I sold that and bought a 2nd hand Cameleon on ebay which I still have now, last week I bought a Maclaren XT.

That should be it for my pram buying years, no more for me......

scratchet · 14/02/2010 13:48

I have 3 prams so far for ds 11 weeks. A large urban detour for winter, a green luna for summer and a black mclaren that we had left over from dd.

I am after a bugaboo now though, am thinking of one of the smaller ones. A bee or a frog? Might not tell dh though!

I feel immense jealously when i see someone with a lovely pram. Is this normal?!

Although I had 6 for 2 Dc over a 7yr I used and liked them all, I never had a one size fits all and didn't realise people change their mind and replace with a new one- it seems many times over. Maybe someone should do a thesis on buggis - seems a huge issue!

Favourite was my big Mamas and Papas 3 in one - carrycot for the baby and then buggy attachment for later - loved it.

Cheap Mothercare stroller for holidays and flying which had to eventually be replaced by a McLaren.

Double Buggy when no 2 came along.

New 3 wheeler Mountain Buggy to replace the old favourite M + P as we moved overseas and it was too big and dark. Had the idea I'd go jogging and rollerblading with it though never did as it was the wrong type 3 wheeler.

A second hand pram to be kept at my mums.

Vinomum · 14/02/2010 17:32

Do all these people who buy 5 pushchairs in 2 years or whatever actually need to replace them? Or is it just boredom?

I don't get it at all. I spent £500 on a M&P Pliko Pramette when I had DS2. After a while it became clear that it wasn't perfect, but I put up with it because I spent £500 on it!! When DS2 came along we bought a Phil & Teds which is brilliant. We sold the M&P before buying the P&T. We also have a cheap stroller for holidays etc - when I say cheap I mean £60, not nearly £200 that the MacLaren we looked at cost.

How can people justify spending this much money on pushchairs? My DH would go mental if I suggested buying another one.

I think YABU.

lovechoc · 15/02/2010 13:05

My DH went mental when I came home with a £50 buggy yesterday - and it was essential as the one we have is broken for the car! What do all your DH/DP think of all this buggy buying within such a short space of time?

I couldn't justify it. I struggled to part with £50 yesterday. To me that's alot of money, nevermind the £200 for a Maclaren. That's outragoeous!! I saw them in the shop but it was out of my budget range, for all the time they actually get used, £50 seemed more justifiable.

cherrycat · 31/03/2010 22:18

I have had 8 differents prams/pushchairs since having DD 18 months ago. I just have a thing for them and get bored with them. I have always sold them on ebay once I hjad bought another.
My DH has never once complained as he likes to spend his money on playstations and games and changing his cars. He wouldn't dare say anything.....I would hate to be with someone who yells at me...I would tell 'em were to go I'm affraid! I work hard and see buying pushchairs as my thing...I earn't the money and like to see the fruit of my labours! What ever makes you happy.

saslou · 31/03/2010 22:39

Have had 10 prams for 4 children. The best was a silver cross wayfarer, which is sadly no longer available. Currently on baby jogger city mini which is quite nice. No pram is perfect and sadly you only find out once you start using it. Something you use everyday needs to be right, which is why we end up replacing them so often.

Psammead · 01/04/2010 10:09

My DD is only 11 weeks old, but I don't understand why people need to keep changing prams!

We paid a fortune for ours and I can't imagine changing it in a few months time. I CAN imagine getting a really cheap pushchair after a while for convenience on the bus, or for when she can walk but still needs a pushchair too but I'm hoping our 'main' pram will see us through this and the next child!

Can anyone tell me exactly what problems they have with all these pushchairs that they need to get new ones?

Not criticizing, just curious and a bit nervous that we are going to go through the same!

ooojimaflip · 01/04/2010 10:18

We have 4.

iCandy Cherry, which was great to begin with - carrycot when baby was wee, then seat that could be front or rear facing, big shopping basket and could attach the car seat - this was great, especially for taxi journeys.

Then needed Umbrellas fold for nursery - so we got a MacLarren. Fantastically light and folds up nice and small. But doesn't really hold up to heavy use. If you walk a lot (2-3 hours a day) and have shopping on it the wheels wear down very quickly. If you mainly use is with a car less of an issue. So that ones basically worn out.

Now have a Baby Jogger City Mini that seems ideal currently as new nursery does not require umbrella fold.

Also have a proper Baby Jogger for running.

titch7069 · 01/04/2010 10:32

personal choice imo,i've had one, bought in a sale when pregnant with dd1 in 1999,still going having been used by dd2 (b. 2002) and now dd3 who is 1yr old. It is a mothercare own brand copy of the graco, and it's a travel system - the car seat did all 3 as well. in my defense tho i was a nanny so had used MANY and knew exactly what i wanted!
