God I am livid! old dirty stealing bastard old man! I hope he chokes on what ever he BUYS with my money!

I withdrew £10 from the cash point and when going to put in into my purse (still at cash point) I accidental dropped it, so moved ds1 pushchair out the way t bend down and collect it, and the old man picked it up and PUT IT IN HIS POCKET!

I said excuse me, but that £10 you just put in your pocket is mine, Ive just dropped it, he said what £10, he must have been about early 70ish!

Lady next to me, said I seen you also, now give the lady her money, he still refused, I showed him my bank receipt and said ITS MY money sir, he refused to speak to me, so I called over to the trolley attendants and asked for them to get the security guards, which they did, they came over and I explained the situation but still he refused, so I said I would call the police as he is stealing!, but security guards said it would be my word against his!

By this time it was 11.35 and I had to pick ds1 from Nursery at 11.50, so I told the fecking man I hoped he chocked on it, and that he was a disgrace to society!

I honestly wanted to throttle him, honestly I am so livid and cant believe their is people pout their like this!

Its so blatant human disregard for another own greed!

Maybe the security guard is in on the scam - his old uncle robs the cashpoint customers and then when they come to him for help, he fobs them off saying they won't get anywhere by calling the police then later meets his old uncle to laugh about it in the pub later while spending their ill-gotten gains.....

sb6699 · 12/02/2010 14:07

Bawbag and glaikit - fantastic

I would have been absolutely furious. Supposing this was the OP's last tenner to feed her kids until she gets paid - the old git doesnt know it wasnt.

Definately report him to the police - I would imagine if he was so brazen about it that he has done this sort of thing before and will do it again.

I would have phoned the nursery and asked them to hang onto my dc's and waited for the police at the time - no way would I have let him walk away with my hard earned cash.

Good on the other woman for getting involved - many wouldnt have bothered.

BouncingTurtle · 12/02/2010 14:12

Absolute bastard

You had every right to be furious. And definitely put a complaint in about the fuckwit security guard

legalwannabe · 12/02/2010 14:16

I certainly hope it's on CCTV, and if so, how will you contact the old fucker man? I presume security took his details?

coldtits · 12/02/2010 14:19

The cheek!

Report the thieving bastard. And I speak as an advocate for the elderly. Just because someone is old doesn't mean they are too stupid to know that they mustn't steal.

DorotheaPlenticlew · 12/02/2010 14:29

Totally shocking behaviour, and I can't believe the security guards' attitude!

Displayuntilbestbefore may have a point ...

LittleAngelicRose · 12/02/2010 14:33

Really want to see what comes of this. The thief is probably known to someone in the store, and a strongly worded letter to the Head Office with maybe a copy going to the local rag wouldn't do any harm, let other users of the supermarket be aware.

Seriously, good luck and I hope the world works as it should.

onlyjoinedforoffers · 12/02/2010 14:41

bawbag alright (which is actually ball bag)what goes around comes around and a` that

Buda · 12/02/2010 14:41

Unlikely that he has dementia because I would imagine that in that case he would look confused if questioned and at least engage. My mother certainly would.

catsmother · 12/02/2010 15:00

He's a blatant shit. If you're that way inclined you don't suddenly become a nice person once you hit a certain age. Really hope the CCTV shows something up and whilst it isn't the supermarket's fault as such, the attitude and "advice" of their security guard was wrong and prevented you from taking it further there and then. Regardless of how old he was it wasn't security's call to make a judgement about the situation and they could have asked him to step inside while the police were called and let them judge it. In view of that if nothing else I hope Asda have the good grace to compensate you with either money or vouchers.

cakewench · 12/02/2010 15:14

Bastard! I hope you come back to give us an update...

Ok so do we have any police officers here?

confused.com?

Right update!

Dh and I went to the police station and we were seen by a officer, and I explained the situation.

Apparently because I had dropped the money on the floor and that it was a public place, the man is not done anything illegal

If he had took the money out of the cash machine slot then he would have been charged with theft, but because I dropped the money he has done nothing "wrong" in the law

The officer was a bit off, very straight to the point and also seemed to want to get us out of the room.

Im not sure if this is true, as he was just not showing any interest or even being "helpful" (I have to say, most of our officers are fantastic) all he said was that he would ask the community police officers to make more patrols in the area

Bloody hell we're adults not children, its not fucking finders keepers.

juneybean · 12/02/2010 16:44

My brother (police officer) says its "theft by finding" and the person knowingly took it knowing you had just dropped it.

ktbeau · 12/02/2010 16:45

WTF?? Nothing illegal? That's outrageous!!!

juneybean · 12/02/2010 16:46

Ooo he also says if you're not happy to do a "pledge 10" with the police officers something to do not being happy with the service you've been given.

porcamiseria · 12/02/2010 16:47

very annoying and thank god it was a tenner only

sunchild77 · 12/02/2010 16:49

What a twat..... well what goes around, comes around.... He'll get his karma...

I thought there was something called "Theft by finding" though ~ off to google...

sb6699 · 12/02/2010 16:50

What!!! So that means if I "find" a bike in a street, or a handbag under someone's chair I can just take it.

I doubt it.

Dont know what a "pledge 10" is but sounds as if you should do it.

LittleMrsHappy · 12/02/2010 16:56

Well thats what dh said, he just ignored him and moved on to say that he could not do anything.

Dh also said so if I found "stolen good" and picked them up, I would then technically get charged with handling stolen goods, is this not the same as my wife's, as the goods were my wife's money.

He said the law does not work like this

OK so dh has said whats a pledge 10?

OP posts:
juneybean · 12/02/2010 16:56

If you're not happy with the service you have received from your police force you can instigate a pledge 10 and the situation must be looked into apparently

LittleMrsHappy · 12/02/2010 16:59

Dh has said he will do this, as if this is the information this "officer" is giving out then surely this is the wrong message to give to anybody who is like minded with this man.

"note to self" thank fook it was only a tenner.
