in getting annoyed with 'chuggers' at my door?

This is he second time this has happened recently. Doorbell just went and it is a charity worker asking for donations. I know I am not going to give as I already donate to charity and am happy with what I give, so I politely but firmly say no thanks and he says 'do you not care about children?' WTF??
Firstly this is my house and if I don't want to talk to you I don't have to and secondly don't emotionally blackmail me in to giving money.
Does anyone else get annoyed by this? I am actually getting really fed up with it.
I'm being miserable aren't I?

JW came round last week. I was dyeing my hair, thought it was my mum knocking and yanked the door open with my hair dripping purple dye and an old ratty cardi wrapped round my bare boobs.

They left pretty quickly.

When we were having our pre- marriage char with the vicar, JW came knocking. The vicar was wearing jeans and jumper but still had his dog collar on

"Have you heard the word" or something similar

"Yes I preach it every Sunday at the local Parish church" vicar said

And they STILL prattled on

MyNameIsInigoMontoya "That said, I got pounced on a few years ago by a Hare Krishna guy who wouldn't take no for an answer - he wanted me to go to their temple and COOK for them! - err, why exactly would I want to do that?? (He had obviously never tried my cooking, either...)"

That made me laugh! Are all the people at a Hare Krishna temple men? Do you think that they just couldn't cook and were sent out with orders to find a WOMAN for god's sake?!

Never had a chugger at my door but I am always polite to them in the street and never had anyone be rude to me. They are just doing a job.

I feel differently about religious people at the door, I have no truck with that, fortunately I live in a flat with a buzzer so I don't have to face them and say no.

nannynobnobs · 12/02/2010 16:10

Augh the bloody charity bag blitzkrieg has started. Three or four this week, the same last week. Most of them aren't even for charities but either businesses or bogus companies. Free binbags I say.

pigletmania · 12/02/2010 16:14

YANBU they are the bain of modern society. If we want to give to Charity we will without the need for these charity collecters knocking at the door at stupid times.

fattybumbum · 12/02/2010 16:44

I hate them. Got shouted at one in Manchester a couple of months ago when I had literally just had a baby telling me I looked 'tired and haggard' Thanks. Not.

Ripeberry · 12/02/2010 17:13

If they stop me in the street I just give them false details (mixture of old addresses) and always a wrong phone number.
Makes them think they have won.
If I want to give to charity I'll put money in a tin.

lisianthus · 12/02/2010 17:57

My DH has an androgynous name, so I used to just give them his name when I was pestered in the street. This was before we were living together. (I am not very good at thinking up false details.)

He was surprisingly keen to leave that address and move in with me.

YADNBU.

I get stopped all the time - once me and my sister were walking along the highstreet and the weather had just turned - from reasonable to bitter cold wind/drizzle. I had DS who was only tiny and my sister had her DD who is disabled, both crying cos of the sudden cold. And one still tried to stop us and wouldn't take no for an answer; "it'll only take a minute" etc. We told him to bugger off as we had to get the DC inside.

The irony? He was collecting for save the children! A little common sense wouldn't go amiss would it?

FWIW I am ALWAYS polite, but only if they are polite to me.
