I seriously dread the end music and the titles,as my 3yr old ds jumps up shouting, "lets make something",can't stand doing any of that arty crap .Usually just offer him a treat as a distraction. What a crap mummy I am.

Threads like this make me very green, as a first-time ttc-er! I can't wait to have a small and enthusiastic person to make things with, and I am off to YouTube the 'I am a shape' thing, it sounds fab :)

We met Mr. Maker at Bath Festival of Children's Literature, he's a lovely guy. All the children were sitting at tables waiting for him with the parents sitting around the room. dd was so exited she freaked out as soon as he came through the door (I guess she didn't expect he'd be 'real'). I had to jump in front of him to get to her before she ran off! He was lovely about it, every so often he looked over and asked if it was okay to chat to her, then came over when she had calmed down. And she was the only one who reacted that way, the rest of the kids were fine Blush.

Even though Dd is too young to understand Mr Maker, she loves it anyway, especially the Shapes song. So we have Mr Maker and Sayed Barraa (Mr Maker dubbed into Arabic) in our house.

bluebump · 22/08/2010 20:44

My DS has just got into Mr Maker, he has no idea about actually making stuff as he's too young (2), but he loves that shape song...which I now have going round and round my head having read this thred! Grin

We stood in rain to get MM's autograph a couple of years ago, and he asked for the organisers of the craft fair we were at to rearrange the tent so all us parents with dripping children could be under some cover. Then posed for pics with both DC's and asked to do two autographs so no rows between them.
A genuinely nice guy I think(even if you could not get me to make one of his creations for love nor money...)
(And fingers xed snoozathon)

What a great thread...
My DD, who is four, is also completely in love with Mr Maker, and now whenever I try to throw anything out, I get the "no mummy, don't throw out the loo roll/plastic bottle/etc - we can make something from it !" Grin

snoozathon · 22/08/2010 22:02

Shaz10 thank you Grin now where is that DH of mine, I feel some SWIing coming on...

emptyshell · 22/08/2010 23:22

He's no Tony Hart that's for sure. I'm scarred for life by the fact I never ever did get a picture on the Gallery :(

Big Cook and Little Cook are just creepy. Mr Maker's just an overly caffinated barely out of teenager!

DirtyMartini · 22/08/2010 23:29

pmsl at "cuboid", etc.

I Am A Shape is fab but the rest of the show is really uninspiring.

MissWormwood · 22/08/2010 23:54

Why does Mr Maker never have googly eyes in stock if they are such a staple item? Surely tis inefficient to have to keep running to the shops when he should have some in the drawers

He does seem like a lovely chap though. And not uncomely, I notice. But I think the projects on Mister Maker are over-ambitious for pre-school children.

I do wish der BBC would give MM a break and put Doodle Do back on (for Chris, not the spider puppets, obviously)

I and dd1 love mr maker but I am squeamish about getting messy stuff out as I hate cleaning up afterwards. Still, we do stuff sometimes and dd is getting better at making her own craft out of any old thing now.

yesterday she made me a bracelet out of a (clean) Kleenex tissue - we are both sniffly at the moment.

Shaz10 · 24/08/2010 07:57

Every time I click "I'm on" I see this thread and start singing "I am a shape" , including a squeaky "I am a square" and a big booming "I am a rectangle" :o

Lougle · 24/08/2010 08:43

My dog (a Westie) goes absolutely spare when Mr Maker goes on. Pacing, barking, whining, jumping (and not in a good way). He hates it.

FlyingInTheCLouds · 24/08/2010 08:48

he came to DS1 school and was absolutley lovely spent hours after filming with the kids.

I think making stuff is the easiest thing to do with them.

Pile of stuff from reycling box, magazine to stick stuff/stickers/pens on and pritt stick. Hours of 'look at m robot' (errr great cornflake box with a few random pictures on)

paint is the devils work though and usuall involves me having to wipe down the walls.

dexifehatz · 24/08/2010 11:12

Reading some of these posts it makes me really feel for the kids of the miserable cunts who can't even be bothered to be creative with their children. No wonder there are more cases of OCD around! No mess, please no mess...

Shaz10 · 24/08/2010 11:16

That's what nursery is for! :o
