To wonder why teenage girls have to pose for photo's with some sort of twisted expression on their face?

What's with that? My DDs facebook page today has another pic of her looking like she is sucking on a lemon. It seems to be the standard pose in younsters - what is that all about?

Do they do the catbum pout too?

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/02/2010 15:52

Oh GOD knows. me and DP ponder the same.

My dd has the following

-hideously contorted fringe which starts somewhere by her left ear and sweeps in a rigidly hairsprayed mass across her forehead.
-twisted pursed lips in every picture taken of her in the last 6 months
-eyeliner which looks as if she has out it on, then rubbed her eyes like crazy

Morloth · 01/02/2010 15:53

Because they are teenage girls? Best not to wonder about most of what they do I find, your brains could go mushy and come running out your ears.

There has been a massive change of profile pictures/language usage amongst my nieces in the last week. One of my older sisters got herself a Facebook account .

Apparently looking like a loon and swearing like a trooper is OK if Aunty Morloth is online, but not if one of their actual Mums is.

The best picture i have of DD1 is one that a photography student took of her, its black and white, scruffy as hell, looking all hard and menacing - its A1 and I want to put it on the wall, but DP says she looks like a herion addict She is 19 now, 17 when picture taken and going through her "EMO" stage. Now its all silly pouts - do they EVER grow out of it?? lol

Or the staring into middle distance pose. i laughed at dd and said she looked like some groover from a Kays catalogue circa 1986. She gave me The Look and was not amused.

brimfull · 01/02/2010 15:58

this generation must be the most photographed ever

they are constantly taking photos of themselves

Morloth · 01/02/2010 15:58

Do they all do the head tilt thing? Some of my nieces look like they are suffering from horrible neck issues.

Chil1234 · 01/02/2010 15:59

I'm with you GetOrfMoiLand on that new 'comb-over' thing. Doesn't matter if you're male or female. When my local secondary school chucks out in the afternoon it's like watching a parade of Donald Trump clones......eeww

brimfull · 01/02/2010 15:59

some do awful porn star poses

issysmilkbottle · 01/02/2010 15:59

my bil does this too, he's mid twenties and forever clubbing with his partner and gaggle of 'hags'.... All non pouted photos are de-tagged immediately! Arghhhh fgs!

southeastastra · 01/02/2010 15:59

haha my neice's photo is the same!

lematthedogs · 01/02/2010 15:59

pmsl @ it's like watching a parade of Donald Trump clones.

Morloth · 01/02/2010 16:03

Did anyone else used to do the HUGE fringe thing? We used to spend ages, teasing and hairspraying and blow drying to get as much hair up in the front as possible.

We thought it looked good.

lematthedogs · 01/02/2010 16:08

no no, i was a child of the 80s, i had to have the hair all swept back on one side, with the huge flicked fringe, complete with ducks arse and a skip full of make up

GetOrfMoiLand · 01/02/2010 16:15

Was a teen in mid 90s - so was trying to be all kate Moss and had dead straight blonde hair in centre parting, complete with bright red lipstock and crucifix earrings.

What a twat, etc.

DD spends hours photoshopping her photos as well, so they look all moody and enhanced.

TheDevilWearsPrimark · 01/02/2010 16:23

I don't do facebook but am proud my teen sisters profile pic is a still from 'persepolis'

most of her friends are just as you describe - it looks awful why do they do it?

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 01/02/2010 16:56

And the ones where they have taken it themself so it's a giant head looking poutily up to the camera, all massive eyes and hair, with a tiny body dwindling to nothing in the background. I suppose they think it makes them look thin.

Cyb · 01/02/2010 17:02

Yes dd does all these poses, as do her friends, normally wearing brightly coloured plastic nerd glasses

ihearthuckabees · 01/02/2010 17:08

What about the photos of their own reflections in the mirror? That's a favourite in my family. They are all so self obsessed. I allowed my DH's neices to become Facebook friends and they all immediately went through my photos tagging themselves. Geez.

mychildrenarebarmy · 01/02/2010 17:12

I think you will all appreciate this website.
Very tempted to put it on fb as one of my favourites!

CrowAndAlice · 01/02/2010 17:19

With a faux seedy green glow in the background too...prob becasue taken in the bog.

dinkystinky · 01/02/2010 17:19

Its an obligatory rite of teenage passage...
