No thanks, Gina hun. We can speak for ourselves

yanbu

JohnnyTwoHats · 31/01/2010 15:57

Oh, I saw this in the Sunday times today and thought that very thing! YANBU.

Lulumama · 31/01/2010 15:58

this is an interesting quote :

"?Gina doesn?t care what people say about her, but she does care about mothers who don?t have a voice,? said one friend."

she doesn't care what people say about her?

okaaaaaaaaay then, so the threat of suing was because she does not care

the above is MY opinion and does not reflect the views of MNHQ and/ or any of its affiliates

and no, i don't want someone who is not a parent to claim they represent parents

TrillianAstra · 31/01/2010 15:59

Wouldn't want someone who is a parent to claim they represent parents either. If GF had ten children that wouldn't make her more representative of mothers as a whole.

Dirtgirl · 31/01/2010 16:00

She really is a boot / litigious cow, ambitious, childless individual (trying not to get Mumsnet in trouble) allegedly.

As a mum with a laptop, can't imagine I'll be agreeing with her much. Nick Clegg had her summed up in a nutshell.

Dirtgirl · 31/01/2010 16:01

Good point Trillian.

MollyRoger · 31/01/2010 16:01

''but she does care about mothers who don?t have a voice,? said one friend."

see, Ginababe, we do have a voice already!
It's called Mumsnet and it enables all our voices to be heard. Mostly....

FlamingoBingo · 31/01/2010 16:02

FFS! How dare she!?

I've commented - hope it gets posted!

bronze · 31/01/2010 16:02

She doesn?t believe politicians should be telling parents how to bring up their babies.?

yet a lot of politicans are parents and shes not!

scrappydappydoo · 31/01/2010 16:03

Its ok - she appears to be only commenting in issues that affect those who follow her advice. phew... so basically she's going to comment on people who disagree with her

OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 31/01/2010 16:03

It's very kind of her to worry that mothers 'don't have a voice' - but the thing she seems to be really pissed off about is the matter of her books being dissed.

< ponders > wonder if she's hoping to sell more off the back of this?

MollyRoger · 31/01/2010 16:06

so only she is allowed to tell parents how to bring up their children then, is that it?

OP posts:
TheCrackFox · 31/01/2010 16:06

But why does she have the assumption that mothers are one homogenous lump? We all have different needs and opinions.

I would rather have an elected politician representing me than a opinionated nanny.

Thanks but no thanks.

MollyRoger · 31/01/2010 16:08

she obviously needs to read that beta article on ''where we went wrong''....

OP posts:
FreakoidOrganisoid · 31/01/2010 16:10

"Individuals have the right to parent as they see fit"

Yeah cos that is what your books are all about then Gina

belgo · 31/01/2010 16:11

'But why does she have the assumption that mothers are one homogenous lump? We all have different needs and opinions.'

presumably from the same presumption that all babies are one homogeneous group, all made to follow her methods regardless of need.

TheCrackFox · 31/01/2010 16:14

"In an opening salvo, Ford was last night preparing to post a letter on her website to Andy Burnham, the health secretary, warning that new mothers were being left ?bewildered? by the attitude of some NHS midwives and health visitors hostile to her techniques."

Oh, right, because she knows far more than MWs and HVs. You, know, the ones who have spent years getting the relevant degrees and who undergo ongoing training. Not the ones who nanny without any qualifications.

RonaldMcDonald · 31/01/2010 16:22

This all has to do with her. Her ego knows no bounds.
It has nothing to do with her wanting to help parents, mothers or women.
She is upset because someone in the public eye that she couldn't bully by dint of libel laws said that they thought her book was rubbish.
She's upset that midwives and healthvisitors don't back her policies.
How very dare they.
Imagine how angry she was that someone dared to advise burning her book

She is not a deity and does not need to be afforded any more attention. She preys on parental fear and is the best ever example of Emperor's New Clothes

bronze · 31/01/2010 16:22

I need to go and do something else before I find myself sued raaaaaaaaaaaaahhh

BelleDameSansMerci · 31/01/2010 16:29

Her agenda just leaps off the page really, doesn't it? I can't believe anyone would fall for what is clearly just a new marketing spin.

Bumperlicious · 31/01/2010 16:29

?She doesn?t believe politicians should be telling parents how to bring up their babies.?

Too. Much. Irony. Can't control myself any longer

ImSoNotTelling · 31/01/2010 16:35

Now you see I got as far as
"In an opening salvo, Ford was last night preparing to post a letter on her website to Andy Burnham, the health secretary, warning that new mothers were being left ?bewildered? by the attitude of some NHS midwives and health visitors" and thought, well she has a point.

The bit on the end "hostile to her techniques" kind of ruined it though

dawntigga · 31/01/2010 16:39

Have replied, lets see if it gets posted.

She doesn't speak for me.

cory · 31/01/2010 16:44

Gina darling, there are three logical options here:

A) nobody gets to tell parents what to do

B) only people who have qualifications/are parents themselves get to tell parents what to do

C) everybody gets to tell everybody else what to do as and when the mood takes them

Now take your pick, dear.

EdgarAllenSnow · 31/01/2010 16:45

even parents can't really speak for parents - not much agreement on here is there?
