No thanks, Gina hun. We can speak for ourselves

posieparker · 31/01/2010 16:47

Phew, is that what he looks like?

Anyhoo...no I don't want that silly woman speaking on my behalf.

Dirtgirl · 31/01/2010 16:54

I think she needs to write a 'Contented Little Mothers' book. Then we can all know what to think.

Silver1 · 31/01/2010 16:58

YANBU- What is wrong with the idea that parents can think for themselves and make an informed and balanced decision about who to vote for.

BTW- Reading the article I am amused to see GF thinks one parent was told to burn her book, I know of several who have been told the same thing by HVs in this area.

PS IF Gina Ford works for you, then I am pleased but it is not the be all and only way to raise a child.

MollyRoger · 31/01/2010 17:00

tigga, i'd love some of your special sanitary ware...i have loads of people i'd like to give some too

But doesn't everyone who's ever had anything to do with any of her books then tell everyone else to burn them????

I've been known to steal them from people's bookshelves without them knowing and get me matches out.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 31/01/2010 17:05

"Ford says she has been concerned by reports that health professionals are discouraging mothers from following her advice. She claims one was even told to ?burn? her book"

Oh dear.

Mumcentreplus · 31/01/2010 17:06

Yeah coz i really care what Gina Ford thinks Not some people are really up their own arses

saggarmakersbottomknocker · 31/01/2010 17:09

The woman has an ego the size of a small country.

FabIsGoingToBeFabIn2010 · 31/01/2010 17:09

FLAMINGO You have been quoted!

activate · 31/01/2010 17:10

to be fair though it's exactly the same sort of media-play that mumsnet does. I mean saying mumsnet will determine the next election is equally laughable to those who aren't invested in the site like regular posters seem to be.

Not saying this isn't a good website but the ability to take things with a pinch of salt appears slightly lacking at times

I am Fer Tile!!

MollyRoger · 31/01/2010 17:15

activate, i take your point, but it isn't Mumsnet (or mumsnetters) proclaiming that mumsnet will determine the next election...that's back to the media, innit?

chocolaterabbit · 31/01/2010 17:21

YANBU. Hopefully Andy burnham and all other politicians will treat GF with the lack of respect she deserves.

Dirtgirl · 31/01/2010 17:25

Gina Ford, for example...

whingeomatic · 31/01/2010 17:44

I've commented, was a bit sarky though so probably won't get posted...

standandeliver · 31/01/2010 18:20

Am heartily enjoying the responses to the Times Article.

And this thread.

Am I the only one in thinking that there is something about GF in that picture that whispers 'Bo Selecta' to me?

Well I noticed it on the home page so no I think it's Mumsnet taking it seriously

bruxeur · 31/01/2010 18:31

Oh bollocks, it was Brody to Quint. Total quotation fail.

bidibidi · 31/01/2010 18:32

Mumsnetters definitely are not declaring that they will decide the next election; there's a lot of media hype about politicans appealing to the 'Mumsnet' type voter, but it's just media hype. Nobody on this website* (not even MNHQ) has claimed to have much political influence.

(*okay, no statements that I've seen, anyway).

Politicians with kids can't speak for parents but GF is adamant that she does have a unique insight into the needs of 'working mums' ... harhar, watch a childcare guru open mouth, insert foot....

Zone2mum · 31/01/2010 18:33

I don't see what's wrong with her criticising politicians - personally I found Nick Clegg's comments patronising in the extreme
These discussion boards alone show that people have radically different views on how to bring up their children, and even more radical views on how other people should bring up theirs... Vive la difference...

morningpaper · 31/01/2010 18:33

What Nick Clegg said

Tee2072 · 31/01/2010 18:34

The only reason, totally in my humble opinion, nothing to do with Mumsnet, is because Mumsnet has been getting so many politicians on chat and getting tons of press coverage for it.

Its sour grapes is what it is.

And she certainly doesn't speak for me. I speak for me.
