To put £160 through the wash and tumble dry it?

Because it was in DP's jeans, he had left them on the bathroom floor on top of a pile of other dirty clothes, and I scooped them all up and chucked them in the washing machine late last night.

I never check pockets- it's my view that it's tough shit if you've forgotten to empty them, I don't see why I should have to sort out people's grotty tissues/hairclips/money etc. If it's in the dirty laundry pile it's your responsibility, as far as I can see.

Of course, DP is saying that the jeans weren't in the dirty laundry pile, "just lying on top of it for now"

Luckily, money seems to be made from stronger stuff these days, and it looks battered but unbowed...the pen drive in his other pocket has not fared quite so well, but hey ho.

If the money had been a complete gonner, whose fault would it have been?

His fault, definately!

It was 11 year old DDs fault that her ds game went through the wash with her jeans.

Am loving "just lying on top of it for now"

Bleatblurt · 24/01/2010 19:58

Well he is unreasonable to put them on top of the dirty washing pile and expect you to somehow know that they didn't need washed, but you are maybe a leeeettle bit unreasonable to not check pockets.

jetcatisfrozen · 24/01/2010 19:59

his fault defo BoF

VinegarTits · 24/01/2010 20:00

His fault for leaving clothes lying around on the laundry

In this house, if you don't want stuff in your pockets to be washed, you empty them or do your own washing (although i dont apply that rule to the finnster, not until he is 4 anyway )

Georgimama · 24/01/2010 20:00

His fault, completely.

Incidentally Australian money is waterproof and washable due to this, and the common occurence of wallets falling in swimming pools.

ilovesprouts · 24/01/2010 20:02

his fault

TrillianAstra · 24/01/2010 20:02

Depends if it was 'the laundry pile' or just 'a pile of stuff'.

Glad it came out okay.

BitOfFun · 24/01/2010 20:04

Hmm, moot point on whether anything is a laundry pile in this house tbh- we are not strangers to the sniff test to re-wear stuff when desperate

LittleMrsHappy · 24/01/2010 20:04

His fault, your not his mother, and his responsibility to make sure he left them in a safe place, stuff on the floor anywhere in this house gets put in the washing machine, clean clothes dont belong on the floor!

Rhian82 · 24/01/2010 20:04

Definitely his fault.

Don't you find not checking for tissues causes problems, though? They'd go all over your clothes as well, surely?

mamazon · 24/01/2010 20:05

tell him to do his own laundry from now on then.

just dont tell him i said so, i still want a bargain on a painting

bellavita · 24/01/2010 20:05

Oh blimey, I wouldn't have enough fingers to count up the number of times my lot have left stuff in their pockets and the clothes have gone into the washing machine - it is totally their fault. They think it is my fault but if something is in the wash pile without pockets being emptied then tough titty.

I once had to stop the machine three times on one wash....unfortunately I did not see all three things floating merrily around at once. I ruined - DS1's phone, DH's memory stick and his bipper thing to open the gates to get into his car park at work.

YANBU - DP is.

4andnotout · 24/01/2010 20:06

Many a mobile have gone through the wash after dp has stuffed his jeans in the laundry bin without bothering to check his pockets, I just stuff the relevant colours in the machine and switch on, I do no pocket emptying as they are usually full of grot!

Ivykaty44 · 24/01/2010 20:07

its not legal you know

wastingaway · 24/01/2010 20:07

His fault, totally. Tissues or shopping lists left in pockets I can understand, but £160? His fault.

Clary · 24/01/2010 20:08

LOL @ lying just on top of it.

Money always washes well I find. My rule is if ti has gone through the wash, it belongs to whoever unloads the washing and hangs it up.

Oh, that's me!

DD left a collection of sweetie wrappers (translucent Quality Street type) in the pocket of a fave cream T-shirt weeks ago. Wish I had spotted em as they turned the top (an dDS1's school polo) a fetching shade of pink

Bleatblurt · 24/01/2010 20:09

You are all mad,mad I tell you. Just check the flipping pockets then no money/expensive items will get ruined just because you cannae be arsed!

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 24/01/2010 20:09

Someone I know who had the same rule washed and tumbled dried a half ounce of weed her DP had left in his pockets

The kitchen stank of it for days.

oricella · 24/01/2010 20:11

YANBU - but with those amounts in pockets, I would abandon the 'no checking' policy and institute a finders keepers one

TrillianAstra · 24/01/2010 20:12

at QoFE.

I like Clary's rule - it belongs to you now BoF!

BitOfFun · 24/01/2010 20:14

Am liking the finders keepers

Moominfamily · 24/01/2010 20:36

His fault. DH once left a screwdriver (of all things!) in his pocket, and it tore holes in my work clothes. I had put the washing on, but he had not checked the pockets.
I was furious until he paid for me to go on a shopping trip to replace the damaged clothes!

Vivia · 24/01/2010 20:51

His fault. Also, £160 in his pockets? That seems so much to me! You should have claimed the cash was ruined and then bought yourself something pretty

ToffeeCrumble · 24/01/2010 20:52

He could report you for money laundering!

AmazingBouncingFerret · 24/01/2010 20:56

His fault. I never check pockets, im too lazy.
I have always found money washes well, so do iphones.
