Of course yanbu.

While you're at it could you come over to my place and catch the one who leaves enourmous orange dog turds all over the children's park right behind my house?

(Would lke to add that I am a dog owner who actually picks up my dog's mess [smug emoticon])

Vallhala · 20/01/2010 00:00

Problem is that someone who is that anti-social is likely to become abusive or worse. Do take care (says she, the most outspoken cow in the universe!).

If its any small compensation this dog owner sympathises with you.

Buzzybb · 20/01/2010 00:06

yanbu Yuck Good that you have taught your ds people more embaressed if it comes from a child [I hope] I'd prefer to have him caught and fined. I made Dp train our dog she only goes in our backgarden behind a bush

YAsoNBU.

I love dogs, would have one if I could, BUT would unhesitatingly shoot all the dirty feckers that don't clear up after their dogs round here - SO many and it's getting worse.

Especially in the snow, when the anti-social swine appeared to believe that leaving turds on ice is as good as picking them up.

I would really like to see properly enforced fines and punishments. In fact, I would confiscate the dog of any owner that doesn't clear up after them, because they're not fulfilling a basic condition of responsible ownership IMO. What do you think? Could we make it a MN campaign...?

GothDetective · 20/01/2010 07:31

YANBU.

DH says when he finds the dog that craps IN our drive then he will follow it and owner home and then squat down in their driveway and crimp one out. See how they like it!

Meglet · 20/01/2010 07:33

Yanbu. I am becoming more and more angry about this. We have a big problem with dog mess in my area and I keep e-mailing the council and dog warden, they can't do anything (apart from clear it up) as we don't know who is doing it. One of my tasks for today is to e-mail the local councillor and MP just so I've done what I can.

I've got a toddler DS who I want to make walk more and a pushchair with my youngest. I don't let him walk as much as I would like as the poo is on every pavement near here. The only place we have to store the pushchair is in the living room so its comething that really gets to me as I hate it when I realise there is dog poo on the wheels in the house .

Apparently lots of dog mess bins have been phased out and people are meant to put it in the normal bin, but lots of nasty, anti-social people just don't bother.

A big yes to a anti-dog poo campaign please!

darkandstormy · 20/01/2010 09:29

yanbu it gives the rest of us responsible dog owners really bad name.Lets face it there is nothing worse in the world than a poop in a buggy wheel.

emsyj · 20/01/2010 09:48

YANBU. My mother has the luxury of being retired and can now make a more or less 24 hour vigil at the front window to catch irresponsible dog-owners red-handed. She has chased a number of them down the street with a turd on a shovel, shouting, 'You've forgotten something!!! I think this is YOURS!!!!' Many of the offending dog owners have not been seen on her road since.

YANBU its disgusting, most dog owners pick up their dogs poo - its not so bad, no worse than cleaning a nappy.

I called someone a filthy slag once for letting her dog shit in the highstreet and not pick it up (this was after she gave me a load of abuse for daring to ask her if she was going to pick it up) i was told i was being unreasonable!!

Put up a sign in your window, a whole road around here has this, not sure if it makes a difference though

stillfrazzled · 20/01/2010 10:26

What does the sign say, LEM?

lucyellensmumagain · 20/01/2010 10:30

People have gotten their children to design posters, usually showing a dog doing a poo with a big cross on it - with pick up after your dog, they then made photo copies and it appears everywhere. Saying pick up after your dog, something like that

ShinyAndNew · 20/01/2010 10:39

'Good that you have taught your ds people more embaressed if it comes from a child [I hope]' - so true.

Dd1 spotted some one leaving behind their dogs shit on her way to school last year. Cue her reciting almost word for word one of my many rants about this. Very loudly, "That is disgusting. Men like that don't deserve to have a dog. How would he feel if some one's child fell and landed in that. And on a main route to a primary school aswell. Some people have no shame."

The man looked embarrassed and explained that he had forgotten to bring any bags with him. "My mum will have some in her pocket. She always does, we pick up after our dog. Mum give him a bag" was her reply. I have since seen the same man with his own bags clearing up his dogs mess. Either it was an accident and genuinely forgot (unlikely) or he is worried he will bump into dd1 or another of her ilk again (more likely).

Anyway YANBU. T'is disgusting and it's not like it is difficult to scoop up.

trampolinequeen · 20/01/2010 10:40

A friend witnessed this -

dog leaves enormous turd on street. Angry passerby picks up turd on newspaper and stealthily deposits the shit in dog-owner's Tesco bag full of groceries. Angry passerby retreats without a word giving warm glow of vengeance to all witnesses and everyone who hears the story. Not for the faint-hearted though

slightlystressed · 20/01/2010 10:49

YANBU - all dog owners should pick up their dogs poop, as should all cat owners.

stillfrazzled · 20/01/2010 10:52

TQ, that passer-by is a hero for our times

I am feeling that glow. Thank you.

GrimmaTheNome · 20/01/2010 10:52

Well done Shiny's DD!

I am still trying to catch the bloke from next door but one. His dog quite often poos on our front garden - we've seen her in the act but unfortunately were still in our nightclothes. She's a lovely dog, but he lets her off-leash and we're a bit round a corner so he may not know what she's doing which is the line I'll take when I finally do manage to confront the man.

I too am feeling the warm glow of vengeance.

I wonder how much stealth training it would take to get it into the owner's pocket?

gorionine · 20/01/2010 11:11

I think some dog owners really do not realise how disgusting it is. Once I told a lady of for letting her dog poo in my flower border (front garden) and she replied (a bit mind) "but it is not on the pavement!" Not for one second did she think that I do not enjoy putting my hands in dog poo when I (sedomly) deweed my flower beds! I just was too stunned to be able to explain to her that though!
