to think that Prince William should NOT leapfrog Prince Charles to the throne?

Apparently a fair proportion of the antipodean colonials seem to think that Prince Charles should be missed out and Prince William be next King. However, roughly the the same number think the Queen should not make way for either of them, so it's not all bad.

I think Prince Charles should be the next King - poor bugger's waited long enough for the job, it would be a bit harsh to be ousted by his heir!

GetOrfMoiLand - love it, or he could live in that mumbai slum he is always harping on about

Morloth · 18/01/2010 11:03

This Australian would much rather ditch the whole Commonwealth thing altogether and become a republic. In which case it really doesn't matter to me who is on the "throne" which really is irrelevant to everyone now except gossip columnists surely?

gorionine · 18/01/2010 11:06

A yurt in the Azores? Now that a thought!!!

5Foot5 · 18/01/2010 13:29

Amuminscotland - you got there before me. It doesn't matter what the people in this survey think. You don't choose the monarch, there are rules about who gets it next and that is that.

As for the Quenn "making way", the Queen will be the Queen until she dies and then it goes to the next in line. The abdication of Edward Viii was exceptional. In general it is a job for life.

SnowWorm · 18/01/2010 13:35

The monarchy (or rather the govt acting, as always, under its nominal role as the monarch's executive) can and does make whatever rules it wants to as it goes along. It innovates constitutionally whenever it is necessary for expedience and the preservation of the institution. They could easily leapfrog if they wanted to.

I'm angry with myself for posting on this thread because I'm pretty sure the OP is a journalist.

heQet · 18/01/2010 13:36

I think that they should get rid of the lot of them and stop handing over god knows how much taxpayers money to them!

Open up all the houses etc that they don't actually own and charge for admission to pay for the upkeep.

We don't need a monarchy and we sure as shit don't need the millions of hangers on who leech off the public purse!

I mean for what? An accident of birth?

Get rid of them!

I would love to see each and every one of their servants quit. Walk out. On the same day. Just to see how they'd cope with nobody to put toothpaste on their toothbrush for them. What a world they live in, eh?

trice · 18/01/2010 13:37

Up the republic

expatinscotland · 18/01/2010 13:37

I couldn't agree more, heQet.

ChickensLoveMarmite · 18/01/2010 13:38

I think we should hold out for someone with a chin

TheCrackFox · 18/01/2010 13:39

I think when the Queen dies it would be a wise idea to give up the monarchy.

Heathcliffscathy · 18/01/2010 13:40

OP hasn't come back, quelle surprise.

go and do a street poll and stop bothering us.

ruhavingalarf · 18/01/2010 13:45

i think OP is doing a school debate.....and has borrowed mum's laptop

Rindercella · 18/01/2010 13:45

I read the thread title and thought, .

Then I read GetOrf's responses and thought,

pantomimecow · 18/01/2010 14:35

Could you imagine the pompous coronation service and price W sprinting up the knave and leapfrogging over prince Charles and effecting a perfect landing on the throne

funtimewincies · 18/01/2010 14:43

You mean it matters who will be the next king .

I must have missed something !

FakePlasticTrees · 18/01/2010 14:49

well, if we get to pick, can we have Prince Harry as next king? He at least comes across as a bit of a laugh... or Zara Philips, she seems nice and relatively normal.

Pikelit · 18/01/2010 15:41

Of fucks I don't give one. Provided the whole lot of the parasitical scroungers prepare to go up against the wall come the Glorious Revoluntionary Day.

PS. Don't you have some other sort of "reader-generated" news to work up into a non-story?

Pikelit · 18/01/2010 15:42

Should read "Revolutionary"...was clearly getting carried away by need for lumpen rant.

ImSoNotTelling · 18/01/2010 15:44

it's not the x-factor.

we don't get to vote for which one we want next

FFS what a stupid question.

Rockbird · 18/01/2010 15:46

Wait till Her Maj pops her clogs and then off with their heads!

Unless Charlie pops his clogs before his mammy, or goes off to the yurt with GetOrf, then he will be king, that's the way it works. Of course we'll all be in that handcart well on the way to hell by then so we will give less of a flying fuck than we do now, if that's possible.

Verin · 18/01/2010 15:47

We dont get to chose tho, its a Monarchy! You cant skip a generation.

GetOrfMoiLand · 18/01/2010 15:50

Bloody stupid lot.

Agree heqet that we OWN all those houses, we should be able to roller skate/sunbathe naked in Buckingham Palace Gardens gratis. Not have them saved for some ridiculous garden parties for rotarians.

Is anyone else dreading a royal bloody wedding? Christ we will never hear the end of it. There will have to be a special Royal Weddings topic on MN which I can hide or I will bugger off out of it.

OrmRenewed · 18/01/2010 15:53

No he shouldn't leapfrog him.

Hopscotch is a much better playground game.

GetOrfMoiLand · 18/01/2010 15:54

Mind you I know I will be on style and beauty threads on MN slagging off Princess Kath's wedding dress, I know it, I feel the dread feeling of inevitability.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 18/01/2010 16:51

Why do journos give themselves a nickname on the theme of their question? It's baffling. You know it makes it instantly obvious what you're up to, right?
