I'm not great at politics but I am under the imptression that things like inheritance tax and tax breaks for married people are going to widen the gap between the rich and poor?

Am, I wrong? Would anyone like to explain how the Tories would improve my lot as a single mum. Would they find me a nice man to marry for example?

I think the NHS is better these past 10 years. Moch better. Not perfect by any means.

BrahmsThirdRacket · 17/01/2010 19:43

Hmm. Can't make any promises re reliability or otherwise of David Cameron.

But just in case:

  • don't be poor
  • don't get old
  • don't get ill
  • don't lose your job
  • don't let your husband/wife leave you

Just out of interest secondcoming, if you didn't get the tax credits would you be having another child?

"since the tories destroyed industry in this country" A commonly held - if mistaken - belief.

The reality, according to an FT study:

"Manufacturing accounted for more than 20 per cent of the economy in 1997, when Labour came to power critical of the country having too narrow an industrial base. But by 2007, that share had declined to 12.4 per cent.

Although the recession of the early 1980s dealt a permanent blow to the industrial heartlands, the relative devastation of manufacturing during the past 12 years has been almost three times faster...

...The near halving of the importance of manufacturing to the economy over 12 years is in stark contrast to the reduction from 25.8 per cent to 22.5 per cent of output under the Conservative governments of the now Baroness Thatcher." Here.

Exactly Lemon, we have firends who have now had their 4TH child, he only earns 10k a year, yet they claim, claim, claim, the live in an expensive villiage, where their rent is £800 a month, all paid for, they get more benefits than you could possibly imagine, now WHY can the goverment not say we will help you with your first, half help you if you have a second, but you have anymore you are on your own, instead of this breed mentality, to get more money

or hospitals

or inflation

or unemployment

or greed

oh god

lemonadedrinker · 17/01/2010 19:54

WEll as its such a derisory sum of money IYO secondcoming I am sure you wouldn't miss it if it was removed, if we stopped paying out unnecessary money to people like you so you can have another child (which incidentally will ensure work will be harder to come by for you and as you say you won't bother looking as the benefits make it better for you not to work)I think we could save a great deal of money.

thesecondcoming - I take it then that you do rather like the handout and you are going to continue to take steps to perpetuate the situation by having another child.

fembear · 17/01/2010 20:05

OP: "I'm not great at politics"

No secondcoming what I begrudge is you now gaily going and getting pregnant with a child you can ill afford just because you WANT to and the assumption that everyone else should pick up the tab.

lemonadedrinker · 17/01/2010 20:08

That may have been your intention riven but that is not how i came across. Sorry if I misunderstood you.

"I imagine Tories will make it worse"

Pardon!? Do you actually have any fact on which to base this or is it presumption and scaremongering.
