In the lazy housewife sense of the word!

So much for my new years resolution of being more proactive!!

Been downright fecking lazy!!!

I dont really know why - bit of a post xmas rut i suppose, can someone please help motivate me!!

My house is a shit heap, really a horrible mess. And i spend all day procrastinating cleaning when im home alone.

Then at the weekend when DP and DP around, i will quite happily potter about cleaning

Whats that all about?

I cant be doing with Flylady, i looked at the website - tis odd, but can someone or load of ones, let me know their cleaning routines to inspire me before this house is condemned, or worse, visited by kim and aggie

yanbu

everyone because of the disruption over last week and this week is finding it hard to get started.

I went to work this morning for the first time for a month and I feel more motivated now I've come home. You will gradually feel more motivated once your routine kicks in again.

Meanwhile, enjoy - have a cup of tea and some cake

MrsMattie · 14/01/2010 14:45

Me too.

I have totally wasted this week loafing around on MN and ignoring my long list of chores. I have piles of washing to put away and my toilet is unusually minging (I am usually clean but messy, but fear i havw tipped over into the 'filth' zone this week).

My excuse is that I hate all this 'shiny happy new year' bollarks. It's cold and dark and I am officially hibernating and conserving my energy!

GetDownYouWillFall · 14/01/2010 14:48

I find it helps to just start on a tiny corner, then sometimes sometimes it gets you in the mood to do a little bit more. E.g. I just picked up DH's clothes from the bedroom floor and shoved them in his side of the bed, and that inspired me to go on to ....MN.

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/01/2010 14:48

LEM - you can't think about tidying up on a Thursday, leave the house in a tip all weekend, you can then draw a line under the whole sorry experience and tidy up on Monday.

And don't try to attempt it all at once. Just do one room per day perhaps.

Do what I do - my house always looks very tidy, as I have loads of cupboards and storage. So it all looks lovely until you open a cupboard and all manner of hidden shit falls out.

happymatleave · 14/01/2010 14:50

I spend most of the day intending to get stuff done but get distracted by MN and other important passtimes. Then I run around like a mad woman for 30 mins before everyone else comes home. If ever they were early the breakfast dishes would still be on the worktop, along with mine and ds's lunch ones.

I can run the hover over downstairs, tidy the kitchen and put a load of washing on in no time, so it kind of looks as though I have been busy all day but for most of it I have been doing sod all.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/01/2010 14:51

Glad it's not just me

lucyellensmumagain · 14/01/2010 14:52

ah, one of our problems is lack of storage - no where for all the shit! so i often find myself, when doing as advised - working on one room at a time, moving shit from one room to another, so one room is lovely and tidy and the rest of the place gets worse

Getorfmyland, your probably right - i mean, whats the point, tomorrows friday

I am contemplating throwing EVERYTHING away and starting from scratch - wouldnt that be nice

ZZZenAgain · 14/01/2010 14:53

you have two dp's at the weekend?!

No wonder you lack the energy to taqckle the housework.

lucyellensmumagain · 14/01/2010 14:53

thats exactly what i do happy, but it only scratches the surface - i went on a playdate yesterday, they had a lovely house - i felt dutybound to return the invite - but the woman will be HORRIFIED when she walks into my hovel

OP posts:
lucyellensmumagain · 14/01/2010 14:54

lol zzzzz, if i had TWO DPs, im not sure i'd CARE about the housework

OP posts:
ZZZenAgain · 14/01/2010 14:54

move that stuff into a rubbish bin and throw it out. One room at a time, leaving your own things till last of course

(There may be enough room left for them).

GetOrfMoiLand · 14/01/2010 15:26

I am always moving house - so that is good for going to teh tip and getting rid of all the shite.

I am also lucky in that I have a teenager so (a) don;t have plastic crap scattered everywhere and (b) her bedroom is her responsibility, so as much of a hovel it is I just let her carry on because I have given up with the shouting and threats.

I am also very lucky in that I have a garage, laundry room and dressing room - all the crap is stored in there, and I can tidy up all the rest of the rooms because there is nowt in them. So friends and family think I am tidy however I just a fraud who hides the mess!

fernie3 · 14/01/2010 15:35

YANBU I am always finding excuses not to do things lately as well. I have workto do in the house, things I should be doing on the computer but i keep getting distracted and doing anything apart from what I should be doing (like MN lol)

I think this is a very restless time of year

lucyellensmumagain · 14/01/2010 16:04

yep, i was really geared up for when DD went back to school, was going to sort EVERYTHING out, and have pretty much done NOTHING, its almost like i put too much pressure on myself!! I fell asleep most mornings - been resisting the urge to do that, and right about this time, i feel KNACKERED just had it, and then come about 10 im wide awake

So, what starts everyone off, what is your first bit of "housework" that gets you going?

OP posts:
GetDownYouWillFall · 14/01/2010 16:05

I find the washing up is what really gets me going it is by far the best chore.

lucyellensmumagain · 14/01/2010 16:09

have dishwasher lol but yes, i suppose thats what i do first, load the dishwasher then MN for a bit longer

You know, this thread title was SUCH false advertising. I'm quite disappointed.

SkipToMyLou · 14/01/2010 16:15

happymatleave are you my twin?

MumofOscar · 14/01/2010 16:28

happymatleave I sooo hope you really do that! I do exactly the same. DH due home about 5.30 so in a minute i will leave here and run round like a blue arsed fly for half an hour - doing ALL the washing up from today in one go, throwing toys in toybox, unloading washing machine (see i have done something today ) and making a cup of tea so i can be sat down enjoying it when he walks in the door and looking like i really deserve it!!

lucyellensmumagain · 14/01/2010 16:30

hmmmm, im begining to wonder if mnet the right place to seek inspiration, after all, we are all on here all day!!! My DP knows you know!

OP posts:
MumofOscar · 14/01/2010 16:33

No, lucyellensmumagain, you missed the point. You don't need inspiration, you needs tricks of the trade and thats what we're here to give you!

MumofOscar · 14/01/2010 16:34

why is my empasis not working?

MumofOscar · 14/01/2010 16:35

oh it is.

hobnobsaremyfavourite · 14/01/2010 17:07

I often get of my backside about 2.30 and squeeze in about 20 jobs in 20 minutes to make it look like I've been busy all day. My friend used to literally switch her hoover on for 5 minutes (not actually hoover) and spray a bit of furniture polish around. She said it made her house smell like she'd cleaned it!!
