In the lazy housewife sense of the word!

So much for my new years resolution of being more proactive!!

Been downright fecking lazy!!!

I dont really know why - bit of a post xmas rut i suppose, can someone please help motivate me!!

My house is a shit heap, really a horrible mess. And i spend all day procrastinating cleaning when im home alone.

Then at the weekend when DP and DP around, i will quite happily potter about cleaning

Whats that all about?

I cant be doing with Flylady, i looked at the website - tis odd, but can someone or load of ones, let me know their cleaning routines to inspire me before this house is condemned, or worse, visited by kim and aggie

no, you're not alone
colleagues going on about how being snowed in helped them have a good clean 'doing their corners'? etc
but I am finding it hard to find the enthusiasm atm

lucyellensmumagain · 14/01/2010 17:27

doing their corners??? bugger me, ive not seen my corners for ten years!!

do the room that is easiest to do (i.e. least cluttered). Maybe the bedroom.

LOL at spraying furniture polish around to make it smell cleaned.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 14/01/2010 17:45

I have a motivational tip: Try watching How Clean Is Your House/Anthea Turner Perfect Housewife (or similar minging programme) it REALLY gets you in the mood to clean. 20 minutes in and I'm itching to disinfect my sinks and wash my nets!

happymatleave · 14/01/2010 17:46

Mumofoscar - yes I really do but I'm more impressed by hobnobs friend, aren't you?

MumofOscar · 14/01/2010 18:09

Yeah, but really don't think i'd get away with that. Might give it a try mind.

MumofOscar · 14/01/2010 18:11

Saying that, when we were selling our house i did get into the habit of wiping down the window sill (sp?) with the really nice smelling dettol just before a viewing! It did make it smell spotless

MumofOscar · 14/01/2010 18:12

Of course, you could always become a bit of a slut in the other sense of the word, then you wouldn't care about the housework

Lulumama · 14/01/2010 18:18

you have to do it a room at a time, i always have one room that is the black hole, where i can throw stuff and then lock the door,so most of the rest of the place is presentable. but don't open the dining room door

go through every single room ,and every single drawer, cupboard , surface and bin anything that is binnable and put stuff for the charity shop in another bag and the tip in another bag

and then go to the tip and go to the charity shop THAT DAY or at least put the stuff in the car to go .

start with the kitchen, you always feel better with a tidy clean kitchen

DH hangs onto everything, so i end up making neat piles of his stuff and lots of it has eneded up in drawers and in boxes, but it is out fo the way

it is hard to get motivated, but once you get going it is great. i did the kids rooms after NYE and it took me about 5 hours all told, including trips to the tip and charity shop. but it has made it so easy to keep on top of their rooms, takes 5 minutes now to tidy and hoover them

you need to keep on top of laundry

i am not that great at putting it away, but i have one basket for stuff for ironing, one for stuff just to be put away and one for DH stuff. at least then if the pants don't make it back to the drawer, i can find a clean pair

ChocolateMoose · 14/01/2010 18:27

I was very motivated this afternoon to clean out the kitchen and throw away out of date stuff on shelves, clean skanky fridge etc. But I don't think my darling baby will entertain himself while I do that so I tidied up the living room a bit while playing with him and watching my Buffy DVD.

PS I too feel this thread was oversold and came onto it in hope of filth of a different kind.

lucyellensmumagain · 14/01/2010 18:32

Mumofoscar, i think it is my years as a genuine slut that has turned me into the slovenly housework slut that i am now. If that helps..............

Hmmm that might be my problem too

ginormoboobs · 14/01/2010 22:18

Watching how clean is your house always turns me into crazy housework woman.
I just can can't stop thinking "that will never be me , that will never be me , must clean , must clean..."
Cleaning is rubbish.
I wish that I had a skip. A skip to fill with toys and boxes of DH's important stuff that he must keep (old magazines are not important!).
I think that it is something about the snow that brings out the slattern in me. You just look out the window and and think that your house can never be as perfect as the snow. Snow makes everything look so clean and perfect. If we just fill our houses with snow , they will look amazing.

ilovepiccolina · 14/01/2010 22:27

Lol ginormo... the Zen approach to housework. I love it.

Tigurr · 15/01/2010 05:40

ginormo - I find that How Clean Is Your House has the opposite effect on me. I look around and just think "well, at least I'm not that bad"

gtamom · 15/01/2010 08:30

I have the storage problem as well. We have been looking for some decent kind of storage furniture for the bedroom, and kitchen.

SkipToMyLou · 15/01/2010 09:21

The best bit of advice I ever got on housework was from my lovely NCT lady. Get some solid furniture polish, preferably lavender-scented or such, and dab a blob of it on the underside of a piece of furniture. Voila, permanent clean smell!

OK, that was only meant to cover the few weeks after giving birth...

lucyellensmumagain · 15/01/2010 16:36

I used to visit my friend, she had four under five and STILL her house was cleaner than mine - but no such motivation these days, shes gone and got a fecking cleaner!

not an option here - house is too untidy

mind you, i think there will a constant clean smell this weekend because i broke a bottle of essential oils!!
