I've just had my first Cream Egg of the year - ok, if I'm honest it's my first two [greedypig emoticon].

Anyhoo, is it just me or are they different this year? Sort of more fluffy inside rather than squidgy and gooey as I remember.

To be honest I'm not sure I really enjoyed them it that much.

There are creme eggs in another shape. Twisted or something?

southeastastra · 13/01/2010 13:08

milky was?! milky ways

ChickensLoveMarmite · 13/01/2010 13:08

PMSL @ 'more of an event'

inchigh · 13/01/2010 13:09

quite agree off course no one eats them before easter ahem

NoahAndTheWhale · 13/01/2010 13:11

Here.

Haven't had any creme eggs this year. They are Wrong before March.

Cranreuch · 13/01/2010 13:11

They do seem so tiny now and 54p!!!! in Boots.

MarineIguana · 13/01/2010 13:12

They have shrunk, but I think that's a good thing - you still get the "event" but a bit less crap. Wouldn't happen in America where everything just gets bigger and it's seen as a selling point. I like a petite creme egg.

And yes they are kind of firmer and grittier inside. Still great though. I'll have to get one now.

Cranreuch · 13/01/2010 13:13

picture of an original creme egg ?

DorotheaPlenticlew · 13/01/2010 13:14

Troubled by revelations here. I haven't had one in ages, will need to investigate ...

If they have become smaller I can live with it, but am surprised at the lack of outcry in the tabloids on this point.

Cranreuch · 13/01/2010 13:15

''When first introduced in Britain, the original Cadbury Creme Egg weighed 40 grams (1.4 oz) and contained 171.6 Calories.[1] Cadbury Creme Eggs sold in the UK and Canada have remained at this size, but those sold by Hershey's in the United States have decreased in size since their introduction - before 2006 they are listed with a weight of 39 grams,[2] while today they are listed at 34 grams."

MarineIguana · 13/01/2010 13:18

Well if they haven't shrunk, it must just be that we've all got bigger...

I wonder why?

Cranreuch · 13/01/2010 13:20

I know a 171.6 calories in such a tiny thing?

CremeDeMenthe · 13/01/2010 13:20

Weight may be the same, the size could have changed though, with a smaller thicker shell maybe.

HERE is a very very old thread of mine

I have undertaken extensive and in-depth research on CCEs.

If they are cold, they go fluffy. Warmer eggs are runnier/squidgier.

I find that one is not enough but that two make you feel sick. The mini versions are therefore helpful in supplementing the too-small-single versions.

HTH

paisleyleaf · 13/01/2010 14:20

I'd thought the 'fluffy' ones were from the previous year.
Or, I do know some shops who just don't store their chocolate very well. There's one that has the chocolate right under the ceiling fan heaters and the chocolate is always off even though it's well within it's best-before date.

drloves8 · 13/01/2010 14:32

mini ones are no good , too much chocolate for the perfect choc/gloopywhite-yellow stuff ratio.
i knew it ! they are getting smaller.

54p?! I knew I'd been had - I bought one today for 80p in a corner shop!! What a con - I'd have put it back, but once it was in my hand, I just couldn't let it go...

Cranreuch · 13/01/2010 19:33

Coffee - 80p, surely that must be the most expensive CCE in the UK? I hope it was good?

Cranreuch · 13/01/2010 19:35

"I find that one is not enough but that two make you feel sick. The mini versions are therefore helpful in supplementing the too-small-single versions." good to know that staranise.

BrigitBigKnickers · 13/01/2010 19:42

They are so titchy now and SOOOO expensive. They were selling them in Somerfield for 48p each the other day!

jasper · 25/01/2015 18:53

deliberately reviving ancient thread.
I'm so sad about the chocolate change and I think the inside goo has changed too. not for the better.

bumbleymummy · 25/01/2015 18:58

I agree Jasper - they're horrible. I've switched to Galaxy eggs in protest :)

WeAllHaveWings · 25/01/2015 19:08

Had a tube of Cadbury Mini Eggs last night and the chocolate was cheap and nasty tasting. No more Cadbury at Easter for me! Switching to Lindt (but in smaller quantities as its more expensive!)
