I just can't do slow and steady. I can't do 'some' chocolate etc. One square is enough to set me off and I scoff the lot. Once I have lost that initial 5lbs I am on a high and have no problem losing the rest of the weight.

I know the received wisdom is that crash diets don't work, but they do for me!

CaptA, this appears to be the o nly thread you have ever posted on. Are you new, a namechanger, or being deliberately provocative?

CaptainAdorable · 10/01/2010 17:47

Although I suppose a good rofl would count as activity?

I dislike LOL. I paraphrased. Shoot me

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/01/2010 17:49

Ok you are just showing your ignorance now
Why fucking ask if you are so sure you are right?

Yes, you can eat chocolate and lose weight. Like I say, it doesn't have to be a punishment. You need a lifestyle change since you attitude is so fucked up and I suggest you educate yourself a bit before spouting crap all over the internet.

starvation mode

CaptainAdorable · 10/01/2010 17:50

Actually baddiet, you can gain/lose 5lb or so with water retention as others have mentioned.

Blondeshavemorefun I actually find a salad very filling but it just has to have the right things in it and a good variety as well.

I would also snack in between as well, usually on pistachio or cashew nuts. I wouldn't have a salad for breakfast though!

CaptainAdorable · 10/01/2010 17:52

I said that I prefer to cut out choclate completely. I hardly think that makes me ignorant. Quite the reverse in fact, I am learning from past experience.

OP posts:
WhereYouLeftIt · 10/01/2010 17:54

Learning from past experience? Apparently not. Troll?

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/01/2010 17:57

yes you can gain or lose weight overnight but it isn't real weight. It's not fat. So it doesn't matter.

CaptainAdorable · 10/01/2010 17:59

I lose weight more successfully when I don;t eat chocolate than when I do. I call that learning from past experience.

Christmas (i.e. lots of chocolates) weight gain, anyone?

And incidentally why are you lot so sure you are right if you are on 'a diet' so must put on weight and lose it and regain and lose it etc - ?

OP posts:
OurLadyOfPerpetualSupper · 10/01/2010 17:59

By all means cut out chocolate completely - and I agree with what you say about sugar.

I don't see what's wrong with something like stir-fried prawns or, say, a bean stew - there's loads of low-fat and satisfying things you can eat and still lose weight.

No need to give yourself a punishing regime.

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/01/2010 18:03

Yeah, whatever.
I gained 1lb over Christmas. Mainly because I drank more than usual. I have lost it now. I'm in the process of losing the weight I gained while pregnant.

You can cut out chocolate if you wish. But it isn't necessary.

badietbuddy · 10/01/2010 18:07

I don't know why I'm rising to the bait. But I'm not on a diet. I had bad SPD when I was pg with ds that made me gain a lot of weight as I couldn't be very active. I then arsed around for 18 months not doing anything about it, and in the last 3 months have got rid of it, in a way that I know I can sustain.

CaptainAdorable · 10/01/2010 18:08

Kat, I know you lose water at first but at some point you start losing fat, (on any low calorie 'diet'). How long before fat loss kicks in rather than just water?

OP posts:
CaptainAdorable · 10/01/2010 18:12

sorry baddiet, but you did say earlier you were no 'dieting virgin'.

OP posts:
ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/01/2010 18:19

You will lose fat as soon as you start to reduce your calories. Each day that you eat 500 calories less than you need you will lose 1/7 of a lb of fat (more or less). Water loss will balance out, so if you lose more weight in the first werek it will slow down as the water levels balance out again.

CaptainAdorable · 10/01/2010 18:23

ok. When whereyouleft it said earlier that "lb of body weight roughly equates to 3,500 kCal" does that mean in theroy you could gain an actual 1lb of 'real' weight / fat whatever in a day though?

OP posts:
ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 10/01/2010 18:32

In theory you could if you consumed 3500 over what you need to function - so about 5500 calories. I suppose that's possible if you ate 5 pizzas and a family sized bar of chocolate.
