to wonder why the word Lesbian on the front cover of Lesbian Vampire Killers was blanked out with a parent advisory sticker?

DVD rack in Sainsbos.

Parent advisory sticker covers the word Lesbian - can't remember the exact wording on it but it says something along the line that is is obscured because of inappropriate references or something.

So the word Lesbian is viewed as something intrinsically inappropriate but the words Vampire and Killer are OK for young eyes, then.

I find this offensive - as someone who has 2 gay women in the family one of which is my mum, and a daughter who was badly bullied last year, in the main being called a lesbian slut by a group of girls at school, I think it's startling that this word is viewed as offensive.

"Its not like you have to go into detail of how they have sex."

LOL

I've always found that particular one amusing

"I have no problem with gays, it's just that the thought of them having sex is disgusing"

Uh, well how about you don't think about it then?

Imagine life if you went around imagining all the people you met shagging. Gross.

Nobody would ever, ever visit their parents for a start.

ruebenjames · 09/01/2010 20:52

How can a bloody supermarket blank out the word lesbian yet let you buy CDs with swear words in with NO parental advisory sticker on the front? Twice now I have bought DD CDs that swear without being warned. It drives me MAD!

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/01/2010 20:53

QandA that's what I though, surely it must flount some equal ops law in some way.

Mind you if this all was discussed in the Guardian in the summer I am sure it must comply legally in some way or it would have been stopped by now.

Sorry, ranting there. But, how can it be covered up when civil partnerships are a legal recognition of Gay and Lesbian partnerships.

paulaplumpbottom · 09/01/2010 20:53

They sell cock rings???????????

skidoodle · 09/01/2010 20:54

"Crikey Sainsbos sell cock rings now"

Right, I'm off to see when the Guardian had THAT story.

wb · 09/01/2010 20:54

??????

This sort of thing makes me laugh (whilst beating my head on the desk).

Really? Then don't answer it.

paulaplumpbottom · 09/01/2010 20:55

I never said that I thought it was discusing.

TheCrackFox · 09/01/2010 20:55

They keep the cock rings next to the Donuts. It is the new way to stack, apparently, all done on shape.

dustycups · 09/01/2010 20:57

grabs pack of biscuits and puts feet up

this could turn into a long thread

skidoodle · 09/01/2010 20:59

You think? I would have said it was petering out.

Still it has been both educational and amusing while it lasted.

QandA · 09/01/2010 20:59

not if people only open the biscuits and don't tell us what they think dustycups

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/01/2010 20:59

yes if you don't want to discuss the fact that lesbians and gays are part of life in 2010 then explain that it describes people who live on the greek island of Lesbos.

Weeeell, I assume they sell cock rings because Asda certainly do, they are next to the condoms. Not to say that Sainsbos is the same as Asda (and to reassure you I am pretty sure Waitrose don't sell them).

dusty - I think all serious discussion of lesbian on DVDs has all but ended now we are talking cock rings and doughnuts.

BitOfFun · 09/01/2010 21:04

Boots sell vibrators now.

Morloth · 09/01/2010 21:06

I haven't seen it. Are the vampires lesbians or are the hunters of vampires lesbian? Not that it matters...

TheCrackFox · 09/01/2010 21:07

do they still label them as neck massagers.

dustycups · 09/01/2010 21:11

cock rings and doughnuts is good with me!

sorry you want my opinion (help yourself to a biscuit by the way)
i think it is really out of order to do this i would rather explain this to my dcs than about zombies etc which i will have to anyway as im bi and hoping to meet a women in the future.
it does annoy me that something that is now part of everyday life is seen as offensive

GetOrfMoiLand · 09/01/2010 21:14

Dusty I compleyely agree with you - how can this be seen as offending anyone in this day and age.

Twats.

The last time I was in Sainsburys, the woman in front of me at the checkout queue was buying a DVD titled "Zombie Strippers" (title not censored). While in the queue she concealed the DVD underneath a Peppa Pig stationery set.

edam · 09/01/2010 23:26

Good grief. "Lesbians - know your place! Hiding behind a ruddy sticker, that's where you belong."

Sheesh.

Goingonce, I'd rather ds asked me 'Mummy, what's a lesbian?' than 'Mummy, why does that lady have no top on?' in front of a copy of a lads mag.

(Answer to the first question would be 'a lady who has a girlfriend' or 'who loves another lady', it's not that hard to comprehend.)

junglist1 · 09/01/2010 23:34

Definetely offensive. And fucking ridiculous
