to think Pepper Pig is slightly sexist towards Daddy Pig?

Daddy Pig seems to fit many negative male stereotypes while Mummy Pig is always portrayed as the better of the two. Can this be a good thing for children to learn? It doesn't particularly offend me but just wondered if anyone else had noticed?

I'm afraid I can't see it.

It's true that Daddy Pig is presented as, well, human (IYSWIM) - but I don't think it is a negative thing, and nor, more importantly for this discussion, have I ever noticed any implication that this is because he is male.

There are also episodes where, by fulfilling one male stereotype, he subverts another (carrying the Xmas tree = men are stubborn, but then taking ages to do it and clearly usffering for it deflates the myth that all men are macho) - which I would see as a plus.

FWIW I am a man.

oh get a grip OP. Peppa Pig is lovely and I actually disagree that Daddy Pig is represented badly. He is shown as being a loving, hands-on daddy who loves his kids and will do anything for them. Yes, he is often shown as being silly and making mistakes but then that's life! My two-year old loves him and I am just glad that she watches stuff like Peppa rather than some of the other trash that is shown on TV.

Kerry - it's a perfectly valid AIBU.

and yes the OP is BU!

I love Peppa Pig, it's a thoroughly watchable kids cartoon so it's win/win. I'd marry Daddy Pig.

I think they contradict male and female stereotypes enough to get away with the ones that they do present.

For instance, when Mr Skinny Legs (the spider) makes an appearance in Peppa's dolls house, she calls Daddy Pig to remove it because its "too scary" but he's way to scared of it to remove it so he calls Mummy Pig.

Etc.

Daddy pig is the Shit I try to use him as a role model

Daddy Pig is my lifestyle guru!

I think he's the porcine equivalent of Homer Simpson. Caring, loveable but a bit dopey. I don't think DS is getting a negative view of male behaviour when he watches it, however.
