to expect the leader of a weight loss group not to be OBESE ffs

Oh yes. I have joined a weight loss group (one of the well known ones) and our 'leader' is obese. Not just a bit curvy, OBESE. Now don't get me wrong I know losing weight is hard work (hence the group) but really? Really?! They allow someone who clearly can't manage their own weight to help us lose weight? Please explain the logic.

Not exactly a great advertisement for the method!

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 07/01/2010 23:16

Maybe they have already lost 10 stone?

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 07/01/2010 23:16

P.S. How do you know the leader is obese?

paisleyleaf · 07/01/2010 23:17

Have you seen the lighter life woman?

Meglet · 07/01/2010 23:17

I thought that leaders were usually members who had sucessfully kept weight off.

AjollyNiceChutney · 07/01/2010 23:17

Because I have eyes.

That is a good point bibbity - I didnt think of that, well done to her if she has
Still.........

Dont you have to reach a target weight to be considered to lead a WW type group though?

AjollyNiceChutney · 07/01/2010 23:17

I haven't Paisley. Is she overweight?

OP posts:
MuthaHubbard · 07/01/2010 23:23

she may have already lost a huge amount of weight and have a bit more to go.....

is she marjorie dawes?

paisleyleaf · 07/01/2010 23:25

Whoops!
Jackie Cox

AjollyNiceChutney · 07/01/2010 23:26

Ok, she may have lost alot of weight but she can in NO WAY be described as having reached a healthy weight. I think if you are going to teach others to eat healthily, lose weight etc you should not be obese yourself!

I actually went to a well known slimming club with an Obese leader before. She was certainly clinically obese, she was about 3ft wide. HUGE. I went twice, upont he second time, having seen her berate a new member in front of the group for eating tinned fruit and not counting it when she coul donyl have fresh, in a very Marjorie Dawes esque way, the member was close to tears, I never returned...

I think that if someone has already lost a huge amount of weight, but is still large, even obese, and is still losing weight, then that is fine, but if someone just can't be arsed to stick to the diet and has put all the weight back on, it isn't very good avertising for the company.

i am sat here with tears running down my face at

bibity - how do you know she is obese?

ajollynicechutney - because i have eyes.

that is soooooo funny.

StrawberriesandCherries · 08/01/2010 00:18

that is odd. A friend of mine lost loads at WW, became a leader, regained the weight and so was removed poor girl. Harsh, but I could understand why they did it.

Love the "How do you know she is obese"

"Because I have eyes"

claw3 · 08/01/2010 00:19

Where is the logic, i assume she is trained to do her job, does it matter how much she weighs?

claw3 · 08/01/2010 00:20

Would add, i know nothing about the rules of working there.

BitOfFun · 08/01/2010 00:24

"Because I have eyes"

Howling here

BitOfFun · 08/01/2010 00:26

Reminds me of the sign on the church hall door "Could the WeightWatchers group please use the double doors at the side of the building?"

StrawberriesandCherries · 08/01/2010 00:30

BOF

midori1999 · 08/01/2010 00:53

claw3 UI suppose the logic is that the company want clients to think that their diet is the one that is so easy it is the one they will finally be able to stick to after all those years of yo yo dieting. (certainly how these groups have been marketed when I have been) and that if the leader hereself is clearly unable to stick to the diet, it can't be that great, can it?!

WW leaders are certainly made to stick within a certain range of their target weight, an dyes, leaders are most often previous members who have successfully got to and maintained their target weight.

caramelwaffle · 08/01/2010 01:10

"........because I have eyes"
