DRY and POLISH their bathroom after they've cleaned it?!?

Chatting with my friend on the phone, I mentioned that I had been on fire this morning, making the most of snow day (woohoo!) to get tidied up before all of the snow fun begins. Whilst tidying I have cleaned all the bogs/bathroom and I'm very proud, as you can imagine.

Friend (or crazy friend, you decide) said 'oh, it's not the cleaning that bothers me so much, it's drying it afterwards'. Turns out she POLISHES her bathroom to a dry, spotless finish after cleaning! I explained to her that what she was doing was morally wrong and probably against god, but she was having none of it and called me a slattern.

AIBU??

What???

No you are def NBU. I've never heard such nonsense!

islandofsodor · 06/01/2010 11:10

I do with window cleaner to avoid splash marks. Take me a couple of minutes, thats all.

nickytwotimes · 06/01/2010 11:11

I dry mine. Makes it really shiny. Not polishing though - that is ott, but drying takes no time and it looks fab.

Picante · 06/01/2010 11:13

I dry it with one of the towels which goes straight in the wash. Twas a trick I learned when I was working as a chambermaid. Doesn't leave watermarks.

Mind you having said that I don't really clean the bathroom much at all.

PrammyMammy · 06/01/2010 11:14

I polish my bathroom after cleaning, doesn't take long and looks lovely (till ds gets int it with his crayola bath crayons ahhh)

ObsidianBlackbirdMcNight · 06/01/2010 11:15

I used to do it when I was a chambermaid too but wouldn't do it at home!

Nefertari · 06/01/2010 11:16

I do dry up the bathroom after a shower or bath, usually using the towel which then goes into the wash. This helps prevent water accumulating against areas of grout which encourages mildew, etc. It's only a quick dry, but it does help.

GypsyMoth · 06/01/2010 11:18

i go over the mirror with a glass wipe, then do the chrome taps, light pull thing and wipe over my scales with it too...no marks or streaks and leaves taps etc sparkling..

madamearcati · 06/01/2010 11:18

I was a summer-chambermaid as a student too and was taught to do this.Really nice for the next guest to think that having been cleaned for your arrival the basin is then rubbed over with the last guests used towel (boak)

ShinyAndNew · 06/01/2010 11:20

We have dry wipe cloths that I go over it quickly with, but I am not overly obsessive about streaks.

Awassailinglookingforanswers · 06/01/2010 11:23

lol - I'd like to see you bathroom polishers polish mine every time you clean it.......................2 large walls floor to ceiling of tiles Xmas Grin

utter frigging madness

crumpet · 06/01/2010 11:23

Probably the same people that wash their towels every day. Nutters (unless there is a special occasion which calls for hotel sparkle)

Louby3000 · 06/01/2010 11:24

Yes I do this, and have been known to spay furniture polish in my sink to give it a real sheen!

lucyellensmumagain · 06/01/2010 11:28

Unbelievable!!!!

ChickensHaveFrozenNuggets · 06/01/2010 11:31

I have never heard of this. Ever. I tend to subscribe to the lowest housework denominator that won't kill us all.

ChippingIn · 06/01/2010 11:32

Of course!! I want to see it sparkle when I've cleaned it... and get a bit growly if someone wants to use it right away

FimbleHobbs · 06/01/2010 11:32

My inlaws do this.

When I was heavily pg and nesting, I cleaned almost all of our (fairly large) bathroom with a toothbrush, to get it REALLY clean, took me all day.

DD is now 3 and I still think I am excused from cleaning it again as I did it so thoroughly last time

thelunar66 · 06/01/2010 11:35

My mother polishes and dries her shower cubicle after every single use

sneezecake · 06/01/2010 11:40

I do the drying after i have squeegy'd the shower gets rid of all the water marks and doesn't allow lime scale to build up

ruddynorah · 06/01/2010 11:41

woman over the road polishes her CAR after it's been out in the rain, or like yesterday in the snow...only for it to snow again today. she will i'm sure clear the snow off again, and polish it, again.

WinkyWinkola · 06/01/2010 11:42

Polish taps with used towel and make sure no streaks on shower cubicle. Only once a week though when I clean the bathroom. It does make a difference and it takes 20 seconds.

shockers · 06/01/2010 11:44

bonkers...

Rosieeo · 06/01/2010 11:47

Oh dear. So either my friend is right and I'm a total scruff or I'm right and everyone else is mad

I dry and polish mine after I've given it it's weekly big clean up. Other than that it fends for itself.

Even though I like it all shiney it's pointless doing it every time; with my lot I'd be polishing and drying it every 5 minutes.

My mother does this though. She also irons every infintessimal thing too and takes housework into another stratosphere.

I've had to 'unlearn' so much of what I was brought up with or I'd be constantly cleaning 24 hours a day to do it to my mother's standard.

I think she expanded the task to the time available though and with a larger family than she had I've had to make adjustmants because I simply don't have so much time.

I do also remember though that the housework regime at home dominated eveything and it was pretty miserable at time because the house always had to be immaculate.

CaptainUnderpants · 06/01/2010 12:01

I wipe over the sink , bath taps etc with a cloth - somthing like an eco cloth afterwards .

Saw it on the programme that Anthea Turner did

Might try the furnisher polish in sink next time
