DRY and POLISH their bathroom after they've cleaned it?!?

Chatting with my friend on the phone, I mentioned that I had been on fire this morning, making the most of snow day (woohoo!) to get tidied up before all of the snow fun begins. Whilst tidying I have cleaned all the bogs/bathroom and I'm very proud, as you can imagine.

Friend (or crazy friend, you decide) said 'oh, it's not the cleaning that bothers me so much, it's drying it afterwards'. Turns out she POLISHES her bathroom to a dry, spotless finish after cleaning! I explained to her that what she was doing was morally wrong and probably against god, but she was having none of it and called me a slattern.

AIBU??

I do the taps, as it makes them nice and shiny, and deceives the casual observer (i.e. DH) into thinking I've actually cleaned the rest of the bathroom!

MyNameIsInigoMontoya · 06/01/2010 12:11

My mum is obsessive about this, in fact she likes the bath to be dried after each bath or shower.... I have been known to dry off the sink if I am doing a special clean e.g. for visitors coming or when trying to sell the house or something, and it does make it look cleaner but no way I would do it all the time!

onebatmother · 06/01/2010 12:15

lol at prob against god

corriefan · 06/01/2010 12:17

Another ex chambermaid from travelling days here. Was taught to towel dry everywhere after cleaning. Also witnessed the woman showing me how to do it using the same cloth to shine toothbrushing glasses by the sink.

MiladyDeWinter · 06/01/2010 12:20

But, but it is supposed to be wet, it's a bathroom! I lust after a "wet room", all the houses I look at on lottery night have one.

Waste of clean towels too.

Drying the bath. Barking.

LittleMrsHappy · 06/01/2010 12:24

I do with the shower cubical, as its stainless steal, and I also do with the bath handles etc....

Their nothing worse (cleaning wise) that having a spotless bathroom, with water stained stainless steal, as it does not look clean at all.

Quite bonkers imo. Bathrooms do not need polishing! I am reminded of the poster on here a while ago who washes her bathmats every single day - I mean no offence, but WHY?!

at washing bathmats every day!

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 06/01/2010 12:37

My bathroom should think itself lucky to be cleaned at all. Horrible chore. Bathroom polishers are demented- someone will use it the moment you have finished and all that work goes down the pan. Literally.

MamaLazarou · 06/01/2010 12:38

Yes, I dry the bathroom when I've cleaned it. Otherwise you get little droplet marks all over the place. It's also much easier to keep dust-free if it's shiny.

I grew up in a filthy Kim-and-Aggie-worthy hovel and like to keep my house nice.

I don't clean the towels every day, though: madness. The only thing I clean every day is the toothbrush cup - I can't bear the white slime that accumulates at the bottom, it makes me heave.

ChickensHaveFrozenNuggets · 06/01/2010 12:38

Oh, this has reminded me about that hysterical MIL thread where the OP had to use colour coded cloths in a certain order to clean the shower. That was brilliant.

ihearthuckabees · 06/01/2010 12:39

I dry my shower down, to stop mould and mildew (the shower is new and I am still in the phase of trying to keep it nice - not sure how long I'll keep it up).

Some people are too houseproud, but then again, some I know a fair few people who aren't houseproud enough (although I suppose it's helped Kim and Aggie's careers...)

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 06/01/2010 12:39

at Miladydewinter's 'I lust after a "wet room", all the houses I look at on lottery night have one.'

I must add, we don't live in a hard-water area and I don't know what 'splash' or 'streak' marks this weird water leaves.

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/01/2010 12:45

I dry my bathroom as well - live in a hard water area and it leaves streaks on taps etc.

I used to live in a very soft water area, and knew nothing of limescale. When I moved here and looked in my kettle after 6 months I could have died.

Drying after washing only takes a few minutes anyway and makes it look better. But i certainly wouldn't think anyone was a slattern for not doing it.

TotallyAndUtterlyPaninied · 06/01/2010 12:53

Hmm I'm off to google this 'limescale' you speak of.

ChilloHippi · 06/01/2010 12:57

My mums dries and wipes hers after every use. I simply couldn't be bothered don't have the time for that!

Pikelit · 06/01/2010 13:05

Cripes! I have a cleaner and don't expect her to be polishing bathrooms. In between her visits I don't polish it either! Aren't there just downright better things to do?

iheartdusty · 06/01/2010 13:15

but, but surely - if you spray polish in your sink, you then get a thin layer of polish floating on the water for the next few times you use it? Not so nice when you're washing your face.

MamaVoo · 06/01/2010 13:18

I bet my MIL would do that. She always cleans my draining board when she comes round to get the water marks off. Apparently life isn't right if your draining board isn't in show home condition.

hocuspontas · 06/01/2010 13:29

Isn't anybody worried about the chemical build up? I'm surprised that some of you don't just drop dead when you go into your bathrooms

I probably have the dirtiest bathrooms in the world but we are surprisingly healthy. I agree about slimy polished sinks - yuk!

2010aQuintessentialOdyssey · 06/01/2010 13:32

You say "bathroom", do you mean the actual room with wall tiles and all? Or just the sink, taps and the tup?

I dont dry the walls, but I clean and polish the walls a few times per year. But yes, I dry the sink, taps, etc a few times per week after cleaning.

jamaisjedors · 06/01/2010 13:37

I saw our cleaner doing this (she uses a clean tea-towel which goes in the wash afterwards).

I have realised that it is why the sink looks so much cleaner after she's done it so do do it occasionally...

Flylady swishing and swiping is similar (quick spray with window cleaner and a wipe down with a cloth to bathroom/kitchen sink).

CaptainUnderpants · 06/01/2010 13:41

I have just cleaned my bathroom sink and just to see what it turned out like - I polished it ! It does give it a nice finish , however I think I would reserve this ritual for when we get visitors.

I did go on them to clean toliet and then gave that a quick polish - I hasten to add that I have thrown away the cloth ! Again it does bring it ip very nicely - plus there is a lovely smell of lavender polish in the bathroom.

Sad I know
