WOMEN would you STOP posing in your underwear?

If it's your JOB i.e. pg 3 girl fair enough (different argument) but Rachel Weisz, Hannah Groves, Sadie Frost et al what EXACTLY do you think you are achieving? What is the point? I JUST DON'T GET IT. Why is the 'sex object' the highest accolade a women can apparently be granted in the 21st Century. This isn't about looking good or taking care of yourself it's about FLAUNTING YOUR BOOBS why???? why do you want people to know what type of wax job you have?

I know this is an age old discussion but taking your clothes off and posing for magazines seems to be even more prevalent in January, also I'm stuck indoors.

I think the recession will bring in a new, less groomed look. It is so expensive looking "perfect" all the time that it may well be seen as being insensitive. I think SGB is right that we are at a "tipping point" with this look and the fashion will change soon.

As an aside when celebrities start having to take their kit off, sell exercise DVDs, etc then they have to face facts that their career is almost over and it is time to retrain.

abra1d · 06/01/2010 17:08

They don't even look that attractive some of the time: they look like weird girl-dolls. I can't believe that healthy red-blooded males actually find them sexually alluring. Or perhaps they've all been reprogrammed to do so.

There's a woman in our village who's well into her fifties. She has a mane of wavy hair, good skin and really wicked eyes and laugh and a perpetual smile on her face. She doesn't really look particularly groomed but she is dead sexy: just so comfortable in her skin.

mayorquimby · 06/01/2010 17:18

yabu, I'm all for it.
Although I am male.

abra1d · 06/01/2010 17:24

Ah ha!

We need a snowball icon here, to throw at mayorq.

ErikaMaye · 06/01/2010 17:29

dances around thread in underwear

But then its granny pants and nursing bra for me at the moment - does that even count?!

nighbynight · 06/01/2010 17:30

yanbu

abra1d · 06/01/2010 17:30

Throws snowball at Erika. You hussy.

mayorquimby · 06/01/2010 17:32

snowballs & underwear? I've seen how this movie ends

abra1d · 06/01/2010 17:33

Big sigh and a huge snowball down the neck of your jacket, mayor. Now go on in and make us some hot chocolate.

Georgimama · 06/01/2010 17:35

Am I the only women on MN who has never had her bikini line waxed? I think I must be. I remember that thread about the picture of Madonna aged about 20 with full lady garden on show and everyone was really shocked. I stayed pretty mum I think, because I thought mine looked pretty much the same.

SolidGoldBloodyJanuaryUrgh · 06/01/2010 18:04

Georgiemama, though I did Immac mine right off 10 years ago, I generally wander around with not so much a lady garden, more of a womanly Epping Forest.
(And still get laid. Have indeed managed to pull two fit young men despite a combination of muff and armpit hair that was damn near a furry bikini. And am Not Thin and Not Young.)

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/01/2010 18:11

Georgi - never waxed here. Just shave bikini line.

In fact sport full 70s bush.

TMI, sorry. But I started a thread a couple of months ago because I read a column in the Times weher someone said a brazillian was the norm for women now (in response to a question from a woman who said her new boyfriend was shocked at the fact that she had pubic hair), and I think that is completely bizarre (and untrue). Sod waxing my nether regions for a bloke.

Think the women parading round in bikinis is depressing and unnecessary.

Miggsie · 06/01/2010 18:15

I loathe all these "here are my tits, and here is my bum" celebrities.

YANBU

Georgimama · 06/01/2010 18:17

Oh good, two normal women anyway. Yes, I never had any problem getting laid and never had any comment during or after the event about it, and DH considers it completely normal (but then he has only shagged me for the last 12 years and probably isn't aware that other women have a landing strip these days). I think completely shaved/waxed women look creepily pre-pubescent and wonder at the men who like this look .

scottishmummy · 06/01/2010 18:19

these vapid tits oot women are precocious and attention seeking.selling themselves as brand.no one compels them to do it,hell you'd struggle to get sadie frost, wags,et al to keep their clothes on

but bottom line is shite like this sells, and they commoditize themselves as speak your weight schlebs.and some numnut buys it

they have so little to contribute that akl they can do is discuss allegedly fantastic lifes and product placement

pointydig · 06/01/2010 18:24

I don't know why people think it's perfectly pleasant to pose in underwear.

I'll never understand why those poor women on teh Gok Show agree to chat to him about clothes while standing in their skants, looking pretty damn terrible and ill-at-ease.

What is wrong with you, women?

GetOrfMoiLand · 06/01/2010 18:27

Yes, agree those women in their underwear on Gok Wan and Trinny and Tranny. They never look very happy about it, however can imagine full weight of production team saying 'do it, feel empowered' or some such shite and they feel compelled to do it.

pointydig · 06/01/2010 18:43

Gok is worse because they haev to chit chat about their clothes, as if they are wering clothes and I always need to yell at them' hem hem, you have no clothese on, you muppet'

nighbynight · 06/01/2010 20:04

"Sod waxing my nether regions for a bloke"

I am seriously thinking of getting this printed on a coffee mug. My colleagues are all german speakers, it would take them ages to work it out

Heqet · 06/01/2010 20:11

I know. It makes me sad that a woman's worth is her tits and arse, whereas a man is judged on what he does in life.

What makes me laugh my arse off is that they say they are proud, that they are empowered, how great it is for women's lib!

hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha

So let me get this straight.

You prostitute yourself.
You do all you can to titillate men.
All that matters about you is your body.
And you have been convinced that you are doing this in the name of women's lib and to be like this empowers you?

While the men remain fully clothed and judged on their skills and abilities.

yes. Of course you are empowered and equal my dear. Of course you are.

bibbitybobbitysantahat · 06/01/2010 20:12

Georgimama (full bush here too) - I remember that Madonna thread. First few posts were "eeeewwww, wow, that's disgusting". And they meant the minge, not the fact that she was sitting around being photographed with her legs open. Lol!

Divatheshopaholic · 06/01/2010 20:17

you should snowball them all

Ronaldinhio · 06/01/2010 20:20

passes slankets for them all

Divatheshopaholic · 06/01/2010 20:30

you need loads material to cover them up from a-z celebs.
i rather snowball them, arent we have enough them atm
