They are 3 & 5.

ExH has fucked me over again so instead of going out I have friends over for a dinner party and we are thinking about heading to Greenwich Park to see the fireworks over the Thames.

no I wouldn't

fernie3 · 31/12/2009 14:49

Yes I would, sounds fun and one late night isn't going to do them any harm!

diddl · 31/12/2009 14:49

No.

I and them would be too tired!

fernie3 · 31/12/2009 14:52

Adding mine have been out partying at family parties every new year of their little lives ! Long term effects yet to be seen lol

BadRomance · 31/12/2009 14:52

There will be a houseful of people - they won't sleep anyway. They are having lengthy afternoon naps as I type.

Plus I could dig out the double mountain buggy from the loft in case anyone needs to sleep.

pranma · 31/12/2009 14:53

If you take buggy I'd do it as a treat unless they are fast asleep in which case you just cant go.

BadRomance · 31/12/2009 14:54

I should add too when we got snow in feb I woke them up and took them out in the snow at 11pm - we had the best time in lovely fresh snow.

I'm not a strict bedtime type of parent and think - I want to have fun - and they will love it. I have chinese lanterns to release too.

I'm just hoping there won't be sneering people judging us.

Mine are sleeping now too double buggy is a good idea and a couple of blankets to keep them snuggled up.

hocuspontas · 31/12/2009 14:55

I was going to say if you have a double buggy then go! I see you have the same thoughts...

My dds would sleep anywhere so would always come with us wherever we went.

Have fun!

paulaplumpbottom · 31/12/2009 14:56

Oh I would, its only once a year and will feel like an adventure for them.

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 31/12/2009 14:56

If they are awake and they'll enjoy it ..why not?!

diddl · 31/12/2009 14:56

I think it sounds fine with the double buggy.

mustrunmore · 31/12/2009 15:01

god, yes! Would be great! Wish there was fireworks near us
Wont it be a bit tricky with buggy tho? Packed out?

HugeBaublesWhatDidISayRoy · 31/12/2009 15:02

yes, deffo

WoTmania · 31/12/2009 15:03

I think you should. What a treat! it's not as if they do it every night is it?

DaftApeth · 31/12/2009 15:03

I wouldn't.

Not because I necessarily think it's a bad idea but mainly because I will probably be asleep then too

I would generally want my 2 in bed way before then if I was at home (too many tired children and hangovers the next day a bad mix, imo). However, if it means everyone else going except you, then go. Lots of blankets, hats and gloves though, it's going to be freezing

BadRomance · 31/12/2009 15:03

Oh it won't be busy - the Viewing points on the Thames are (couple of years ago we were stuck for two hours trying to get out and really needing to wee - nightmare)

Greenwich park is open and has loads of different hills where you can see the whole of the Thames (well central Thames) The fireworks are from barges on the river - should be fab.

BadRomance · 31/12/2009 15:05

But yes - many jumpers blankets and hats etc. my friends got a double slanket for xmas - they will bring it - should make for some hilarious photos.

I'm getting excited now

If anyone gives me a cats bum mouth look I'll assume they are not a mumsnetter.

no kidsa are shit at fireworkds

Pikelit · 31/12/2009 15:07

Yes, yes, yes! Although being a pyrotechnician of sorts, my children have never willingly allowed a fireworks display to go unmissed. Indeed, stepson was employed on the London display last year.

But to get back to the point..it won't hurt anyone who is warmly dressed to stay up and enjoy the excitement of a special night. Routines are made to be occasionally broken or we'd all be as dull as ditchwater.

mustrunmore · 31/12/2009 15:07

I'd love to be going Mind you, I asked dh to pop out to Argos today because I was too cold to step outside

BadRomance · 31/12/2009 15:09

Well yes DD managed to fall asleep standing up at the Blackheath Bonfire night display this year, but DS was entranced. He was drawing fireworks for weeks after.

yes

pooexplosions · 31/12/2009 15:13

I would, and any sneery judgypants would get a withering look and/or a sparkler up there arse. Take pictures too so when they are older it will remind them what a cool ma you were and the fun you had with them.
