Would you take your DC out at midnight to see fireworks?

They are 3 & 5.

ExH has fucked me over again so instead of going out I have friends over for a dinner party and we are thinking about heading to Greenwich Park to see the fireworks over the Thames.

Any sneery judgypants might have been best off taking their cocoa to bed well before midnight!

mumeeee · 31/12/2009 15:19

Sounds like a great night. If they like fireworks then take them.

FanjoForTheMankySocks · 31/12/2009 15:22

I wouldnt take MY DD as she had a late night the other night(granted we were at A and E as she had an allergic reaction) and since then has been horrendously tired and grumpy so it would not be worth it.

but I wouldn't judge anyone who did!

hocuspontas · 31/12/2009 15:27

Make sure you take enough to drip-feed snacks and drinks if they wake up/get bored!

BadRomance · 31/12/2009 15:28

Oh myself and friend are already texting around to get everyone to bring thermos flasks

I'm thinking thick tomato soup and hot choc!

it will be feezing especially if they are stuck in a pushchair

Pikelit · 31/12/2009 15:28

BadRomance · 31/12/2009 15:28

Ds is ASd so in nappies anyway - DD won't mind having a pullup on as she is only just training.

merrycompo they won't be in the pushchair I'm pretty sure they will be walking and probably more lively then the rest of us.

Pushchair is backup in case they need to sleep.

I would - it sounds great fun. Plenty of time to catch up on sleep on other nights.

We have always taken our DDs out to NY parties etc since they were born and they are now nearly 9. In fact one of them said to me in an amazed tone yesterday that one of her school friends had never stayed up to see NY in .

BadRomance · 31/12/2009 16:03

Thats awful Sandyballs

My mums friend spent the entire night of her 20th wedding anniversary telling her children to get back to bed - I felt so sad they should have just had fun too surely?

It was spectaculr spectacular!

Lots of people with small children too

And many chinese lanterns were sent. One Lady had a pen and was asking people to write messages for loved ones. I wrote for my nan and grandad.

DS's face was a picture

We luckily grabbed a black cab rather than walk home

Really glad you went and 'seized the moment' - life's too short!

Did you get any cats bum mouths and did you shove a sparkler in??

Rollmops · 01/01/2010 09:13

Absolutely not. Why? It's just fireworks for goodness sake
Never understood the 'adventurous' souls who make a pilgrimage to specifically congregate somewhere to watch it.
Been in situ of many a spectacular display though, 1997 HongKong handover was one of the best, however, I have always been there for a reason other than watching the fireworks.

girlsyearapart · 01/01/2010 09:21

BadRomance- hopefully you had my DH as your cabbie!

Sounds like a lovely night.

I was asleep at 930 couldn't see the point of staying up till after 12 by myself really

I should add too when we got snow in feb I woke them up and took them out in the snow at 11pm - we had the best time in lovely fresh snow.

If they were awake anyway for new year, during a party, then fine. But waking them up to go and play????

Think you need to put kids sleep before your need to go out to 'play'.

dixia · 01/01/2010 10:21

Did you take them? I would have done by the way!

dixia · 01/01/2010 10:22

Sorry, viewing of thread messed up and I didn't see these ones! Doh.

BadRomance · 03/01/2010 02:54

tootiredtothink

Well yes I did.

Given we never got snow in London and we'd had a pisser of a time before it.

They loved it - then we came in had hot chocolate and all cosied in bed. Why not?

It's something DD still talks about as a great memory.

Glad you went. Mine age almost 3 and 6 were bothn in the street at midnight with fireworks and then went to carry on with their kareoke party untill the wee hours. They loved every second of it.

StarlightWonderStarlightBright · 03/01/2010 06:57

tootired My dad used to wake us four kids up at 3am whenever there was fresh snow, so we could have a snowball fight. It was one of my best memories of childhood. We used to look up at the neighbour's kids standing at their windows watching having woken due to the noise and squeals but it wasn't a regular thing, so who cares!? IMO their parents should have let them out too.
