To want a present?

I am currently without children myself, although my DP wants them and I'm sure it will happen at some point. The thing is, he has four brothers and sisters, all with at least two kids each, and their family has a policy of presents for the children only. Frankly it has cost me a fortune, and DP has left most of the present buying (and wrapping- gah) to me. I can't help but feel a tad pissed off that I will get NOTHING from his family.

AIBU?

Nope, rule here is for the adults UNLESS they have kids, then it's kids only... much fairer imo

ISawTortoiseFuckingSantaClaus · 24/12/2009 22:52

My rule would be Kids only unless it was for someone who didn't have any.

As a single mum i don't generally get presents either. Although my Bro has got me something this yr and so has a MN friend. DC have too but i had to buy them so i know what they are!

pigletmania · 24/12/2009 22:57

YANBU at all, if you do not have kids than the family should get you a pressie.

NotForKids · 24/12/2009 22:58

I'm so glad you agree with me- I thought I would be flamed! The thing is, these kids are spoilt rotten as it is- free board and lodging, every whim catered for etc, yet I work hard and for what? To get wiped out at Christmas time

Oh god i feel your pain, glad its not only me, my DH's family have a 'kids only' rule too, its gets on my fucking tits YANBU

NotForKids · 24/12/2009 23:05

It just won't be Christmas without some good presents

I know people pretend otherwise, but let's be honest, it's pretty much what it's all about, isn't it? Yet I don't see these kids returning the favour, and they are bloody ruined most of the year. And I know for a fact that most of them get generous pocket money. Is it so unreasonable to expect at least the older ones, say, over eight, to save up a bit?

YABU

you sound very selfish and jealous of these kids

NotForKids · 24/12/2009 23:08

Wouldn't you be? They have the life of Riley compared to me.

InMyLittleHead · 24/12/2009 23:08

YANBU! I can sort of understand it if everyone has kids, but unfair if some don't. You are being discriminated against! And kids do get such a lot these days, I know what you mean

knowitalll · 24/12/2009 23:10

How do they have the life of reilly?

They are children, it is christmas, spot being so bloody selfish, christmas is for kids

NotForKids · 24/12/2009 23:11

How is it selfish to expect some return on at least two hundred quid?

i must have missed that, free board and rent, how shocking, they should be sent to the work house all day

InMyLittleHead · 24/12/2009 23:14

WHY is xmas for kids? Surely it is for everyone? I think the parents should take into account the fact that it is essentially they who are getting free stuff, as it is stuff they will not have to buy for their DCs and give you something nice back. It ain't that much to ask.

expatinscotland · 24/12/2009 23:14

Please, do the world a favour: don't have kids.

I'm going to assume this is a wind up because there are a lot of drunk people out there right about now.

I think the parents, then, should stump up something.

Oh, and another thing, NO I DO NOT WANT TO WRITE 'FROM SANTA', FFS! It's from ME!
