To wonder what sort of person goes to Featherdown Farms?

I received the brochure this morning and if I had to describe it I'd say it was over priced 'camping' for the posh. I'm imgaining that the brouchure is aimed at families who have houses in affluent parts of London and children who spend all of their time sealed into mummy's 4x4 being ferried to a variety of extra-curricular lessons.

Things that made me particularly were the 'slow food packages', whereby you pay £32.50 and they give you the ingredients for a stew which you then have to cook yourself over a fire. Then there is 'private bunny hire'. £15 to look after the farmer's rabbit for a week - not forgetting to clean the hutch out before you leave. Is it just me who can't see the appeal?

What's wrong with being middle class, living in London, liking glamping, sending DC to extracurricular activities...? What's with the snobbyness on this thread.

Oops, just seen how old this thread is Blush

I didn;t say there was anything wrong in it, I like glamping, I send my dd to extra curricular activites and have lived in London. I am not however middle class and you tend to feel comfortable with people who are like you, therefore I stick to fellow commoners. I would put people of their yoga at centre parcs as they would feel the need to stare at my bling.

i have never fancied the idea of a log burner in the middle of a tent with small children running around. it sounds a bit dangerous to me.

and having to light a fire in the morning before you get your cup of tea Shock. I was a girl guide - I know the hell of a fire that won't start when you want breakfast!

probably quite nice without kids though.

Look at the thread hopefully here before booking with a group.

I have been to Centre Parcs and I found it hideous so you are not missing anythign twinkly. I thought it was downmarket with horrible food and pretty much what I would imagine Pontins or Butlins to be like, just with a few more trees.

twinklypearls · 05/08/2011 15:51

I wouldn't go to Pontins or Butlins either, the thought fills me with horror, I am in feathedown farm no man's land.

twinkly I was responding mainly to the posters near the top of the thread, then I realised the posts were all from 2009 and 2010 Blush.

It is Ok Bssh, I have to admit the middle classes do amuse and mystify me so I have no doubt I can be sniffy about them, just as most of the centre parcs crowd would be puzzled by me. I can remember once going to see an art exhibition at the Lowry that included pictures of run down estates in Salford. Most of the people were there to peer at the poor and comments were made all afternoon along the lines of " Can you imagine living their darling". Dp and I were there to see if we could see any relatives sneaking into shot.

I bet Featherdown is full of loud parenting types!

Blimey talk about controversy! It's only a camping holiday ffs. If you like it then try it, if not then don't. I only came upon this thread while looking for something a bit different to do in the hols with my kids. No ones twisting your narrow minded jealous little inferior arms to go are they? Why not find a more worthy cause to slate and back off from the ones trying to let some families 'reconnect' and have a little quality time together. Surely it's up to me what I spend my money on and where I take my kids and what extras I want to buy? Its not up to you to judge and frankly it's none of your business so don't waste your obviously infinitive "i've got nothing better to do" time going on their website and quoting from their brochure. You just show yourselves as the sad little ........ that you obviously are! I'm off to book my holiday now but wont be revealing where for fear of being judged then ripped to shreds by you lot of opinionated upstarts. (ps no swearing in my thread, bet I get more fan mail than you haters)!
