To think that people who don't clear the snow off their cars before driving are ignorant and lazy?

Quite apart from the fact that you can't see their headlights or indicators, when you follow them great lumps of snow blow off their vehicle and land on your windscreen so you can't see either.

TWATS!!

Lovechoc, there are people driving around here with four inches of snow piled on their roofs!

The Highway Code says 'remove all snow that might fall off into the path of other road users'. Seems pretty clear to me.

lovechoc · 22/12/2009 19:06

well that's different then if it's a significant amount of snow mummydoit. it's common sense to clear the roof first. I wouldn't dispute that, but I do get annoyed when it's a sweeping statement that people are idiots if they don't clear snow off their roof (helps if we know how much snow we're talking about in the first place).

Made me laugh as well, ShellingPeas, that's what I love about AIBU. And there's always a point at which someone shouts "get a life!" or "haven't you got anything better to worry about?" - like we'd all otherwise be interrupting brain surgery or running the country if we weren't commenting on giving dcs McDonalds or supermarket grapes. A very festive to you all for making me laugh!

ShellingPeas · 22/12/2009 19:10

Yep. Tis why I love AIBU so much and keep coming back.

Coming back to the thread after my tailgating comment.

Okay, I've changed my mind. Should we ever get any bloody snow (we seem to be the only place in the UK that skipped it sigh) that I actually go out in (I usually just hermitify in the warm when it does), I will make sure I clear my roof as well in future

YANBUACICMM
(you are not being unreasonable anymore 'cos I changed my mind )

SlartyBartFast · 23/12/2009 09:11

i clear it better than previously, because earlier in the year i hadnt cleared it, i had to stop at a roundabout and it fell off my roof, unfortunately i had my window open and it fell on me

lesson learnt

mychildrenarebarmy · 23/12/2009 09:38

YANBU. It is dangerous.

AnnieLobeseder · 23/12/2009 09:49

Well, I must plead ignorance, but not laziness. I'm not from 'round here and this is the first year I've had snow on my car (well, last year too but I didn't drive it anywhere).... it honestly never occurred to me to brush it off, I just figured it would fall off when it was ready.

I shall be sure to get it off in future.

Though when I was out driving the other day and snow was flying off all the other cars and hitting me, I thought it was quite cool - like a driving snowball fight!

So, you're having an affair and you've started a thread about people not clearing snow off their cars properly?

What an interesting set of moral priorities

lovechoc · 23/12/2009 12:25

LOL

fortyplus · 23/12/2009 19:42

I saw a funny but stupid thing today - old guy cam eround a downhill corner - braked - and all the snow on his roof slid off and landed on his windscreen, totally obscuring it. He had to stop to clear it with a bunch of irate drivers behind him. TWAT!

Totally beyond me how people can't understand the importance of clearing cars properly.
