All her friends are going apparently.

It is a horrible nightcub which I have walked into, took one look and walked right out again (for anyone who knows Gloucester, it is Liquid on Eastgate Street).

I really think she is too young to go to under 18 discos. She was only 14 on Monday. I remember getting trollied on Thunderbirds at mine. I just don't like the thought of it.

Am I being a miserable old fart? I would like to put my foot down but she has only just moved schools (moved her 6 weeks ago due to terrible bullying at her previous one) and she has been welcomed into a lovely group of girls at the new school, so obviously don't want her to feel alienated, but honestly really don't want her to go to a crappy nightclub.

AIBU?

Surely Liquid cant be as bad as going to Cinderellas on a Friday, Crackers (and yes it was a strip joint then!) on Sat afternoon (after getting kicked out of the Pint Pot at 2) followed by KCs on Sat night?! I did all this at 15 - and I'm a (quite) responsible adult now...

Although - I did used to tell my Dad we were getting a taxi back and walk 4 miles to Tuffley instead...he'd be horrified if he knew!

It really is a right of passage isn't it? and if it is under 18s at least it will be supervised, we wern't were we?

(Am I the oldest here or does anyone else remember Tiffanys Laughternoons on a Saturday afternoon 10-14's? My sister used to take me because she fancied DJ Marcus!)

Parenting pitfall number 745 - having 2 glasses of wine on Friday night, feel all magnanimous and say 'oh go on then, if you really want to go you ^can' to previously vetoed activity.

DD was very pleased. I had a chat with DP about it and he was all for letting her go in order that she fit in a bit with her new friends. Also 22 year old step son was here lst night - he agreed with some posters above that the U18 disco will be full of 14-15 year olds, anyone 16 and above wouldn't be seen dead and will be sneaking into the adult clubs.

DD has now taken some of her birthday money into Cheltenham to spend on suitably vile party clothes from Primark/Republic/New Look. She mentioned something about getting some sequin leggings (if they're any good I may nick borrow them myself!

LOL at everyone's recollections of vile Gloucester clubs - at Dallas traipsing miles home to Tuffley!

Thanks again everyone.

Let her go. She's been honest about the outing and these discos are a rite of passage - for some reason they most often seem to occur in the scuzziest looking clubs. But that doesn't mean the event won't be very well organised with safety security at the heart of things. Only it's really not in the club's best interest to allow any harm to come to anyone attending these special under-18 nights.

I would let her go but insist on picking her up. When I was her age, we were all slapping on make up and trying to get into 18+ nightclubs so this is quite tame in comparison. She won't be able to buy alcohol there and there will be no smoking anyway so she can't come to much harm.
