to not understand why people are obsessed with facebook?

Just wanted to start a thread to say that I really do not understand peoples obsession with facebook. Am I alone in this?

DD has recently started school and it has opened up a whole new world of people inviting others to be friends on facebook and so forth.

I don't understand it all. I have never been very interested in computers and internet stuff. I only found MN last year. This is a choice and I appreciate others choose to use Facebook but I just wonder how many hours people spend on this stuff each day.

TBH if I was on Facebook and MN I would never get anything else done.

Is it unreasonable to not sign on to Facebook?

Only the people you want to know your busines know your business! It's simple, if you only want close friends or family or no one from work on there then only add those people, if you don't want everyone to know something, don't post it!

It's exactly like here that you control what people see and who sees it - 500+ friends a lot? How many people use MN? Yes your real information is on there but only the people you want to see it see it.

In groups you can have it set so only your name shows, no picture, no link to your profile, no network so you could be one of a million people with your name all over the world.

Status messages say what you decide to write on them. Don't want people to know you're bored on the bus? Don't write "Jo Smith is bored on the bus".

Facebook don't twist your arm up your back and force you to write things or add people you don't want and it's not just about status updates and drunken photos. There are games, forums, friends you don't get to talk to or see very often, pictures of your friends children or your neices and nephews that you might not normally see.

Facebook is what you make of it. A lot of people on this thread ABVU! If you've never used it how can you comment???
