Yes she is not at all clear. I will assume that she is a right thinking person and correctly despises the oversize boring fairy cake things.

We made some gorgeous cupcakes fairycakes this afternoon. Chocolate with chocolate frosting courtesy of the Hummingbird Bakery book. Unfortunately most of them are going into school tomorrow as ds is on a charm offensive (his teacher apparently loves chocolate).

Aren't the flat muffins now called English muffins to distinguish them from cakes? The flat muffins are lovely toasted with melted cheese.

I don't like shop-bought muffins because they are generally too "claggy". But DH makes fantastic chocolate and blueberry muffins which are to die for (I think he gets the basic recipe from Nigella)

I don't make cupcakes, never have. But I love fairy cakes, make them quite a lot.
