In thinking Delia has a death wish for us all?

Just watched the Delia Christmas cookery programme on BBC2.

I know she always does this, but I haven't seen her on the tv for a while - everything was crammed with heart-stopping cholesterol - either butter or cream/creme fraiche. And then liberal amounts of nuts, cheese, fatty bacon etc.

It made me feel ill watching it.

And, wearing loads of rings on her horrible liver-spotty hands while preparing food - I hope they chucked the stuff away afterwards.

Admittedly some of the recipes looked delicious in small quantities but AIBU in thinking a full Delia Christmas is a ticket for the morgue?

She's great an I'm going to stick with her original Christmas book.

Do all you nay-sayers eat alfafa sprouts and fecking tofu on Christmas day, then, or what? It's CHRISTMAS. It's all about over indulgence and treats!

That said, I thought the recipes were slightly disappointing. That parsnip thing she made for the veggies looked beyond vile. None of her recipes really made me think 'Wow! I have to make that!'.

Oh give her a break! She's lovely and her recipes are idiot proof and rather fab.

Yes, I have 300 cookbooks, and have just got a few more as well.

The bread sauce is not a killer - I make it with semi skimmed milk and the recipe actually stipulates very little cream for the 8 people it serves.

The Frugal Food book is fab - especially the beef in cider on p84 (if you have the new version of the book, not the really old paperback from way back when), and the bangers braised in cider on p138 are fab; also the pork sausages with cider sauce are great too.

I didn't like the how to cheat series (but she was just rehashing the 1973 book, which I have as well) and we all have out own cheats anyway; but it was a bit blatant. There are however people out there who don't know how to cook, so at least it got food discussed and may be got some into the kitchen. I once worked with someone whose idea of shepherds pie was fray bentos topped with smash - yeuch. If it gets people away from the culture of ready meals and takeaways then great. I have the odd chinese and a kebab sometimes, but mostly I cook from scratch every night and it is cheaper and I know what's in it.

Delia is a saint - she got me cooking and countless others as well, and that is no mean feat.

This is making me laugh! I do like watching food programmes and I reckon everyone deserves some treats this time of year. I won't be indulging in all those recipes as I'm sticking to my celeb slim diet but I'll be choosing a few Delia favourites to make - I love her!

Can't stand those magazine articles that come out every year- "How to eat healthily and not gain a single ounce by correctly choosing canapes and party food so that it's boring as hell but you get to feel superiour". it's Christmas! If I want to lie down with my head in a tin of roses and stay there till New Year I will. There are fifty other weeks to eat healthily.
