lol lol lol

dandruff YOU ARE WRONG

Whatever you post about YOU ARE WRONG

What if the one child family suddenly gets very fat and needs more room? What if their dc needs minders and security and that? What if one day they went in a small car and are now traumatically psychologically scarred forever? What if what if what if what if?

You just don't think these things through, do you? Hmm?

I would like it be known that I know DanDruff very well and she owns not a car, but harnesses her dcs to a ONE SEATED wheeled contraption and makes them drag her about.

We have a Zafira, with 2 extra seats available (as long as we sacrifice luggage space) - we have one dd and are not having any more. Our old car was a saloon and really was not comfortable to have us, dd and my parents in so, when we went on holidays together we ended up going about in my parents' car with my dad driving - he's getting to the point where driving longer distances stresses him and his eyesight is not great for driving in low light. Buying the Zafira allowed us to use our car instead - in fact, shortly after we bought it, we went on an island hop with only our car. We were able to spread out and be more comfortable on our day trips when we didn't need the luggage space. I also look forward to having dd and her friends in the back without having to worry so much about whether we'll fit them all in.

YANBU

I hate all cars, they're bobbins (unless of course I need to go to Ikea. Or Sydenham)

...but then I am a miserable luddite sour faced lefty environmentalist type [appropriate sour faced emoticon]

nymphadora · 28/11/2009 19:27

I have 2dds and am TTC.I regularly transport children for work. My current car can fit 2 children a bike and 2 suitcases in (was one of my trips on Friday with work), Its a Toyota Yaris!

nymphadora · 28/11/2009 19:28

Oh but I am replacing it soon. With a Fiesta

eclipse · 28/11/2009 19:32

We bought our people carrier after ds was born and I had some backpay. We planned more children and after 4-ish years, we still have just 1. Rather than sell the car and make a loss, we use it as a mobile skip when it's just us and always fill it to the brim with people and kids when ever there's a load of us going the same way. I'm sure it's earned its keep financially and environmentally.

fernie3 · 28/11/2009 19:40

we dont have a car at all BUT I have just found I am pregnanct with number 4 so we are now considering getting a car which is going to have to be some sort of people carrier. Cant really see why this family needs one but then again we have never had one at all so I am probably not thinking clearly about it!

Peachy · 28/11/2009 19:49

We have an MPV that we spositively need (4 kids,8and* two non driving aprents) but also went out and got a smart car so the MPV is almost never used for only one or two people (unless ds4 is about as Merc want £££ for a babay seat and alterations, or I am the driver as I don't do LHD). But we do needtwo cars as DH drives one way without access to atrain station except by car,and ds3 attends SNU quite a way the other way so I need to be able to get to him if needed.

Seems to make sense for us to wrok this way,and has profved financially beneficial

But abck to the OP- the times that the bigger car has come in handy are numerous0 changing sapce in the back for carnivals, ability to trasnport large items about or play family taxi, plus every few eyars we can take the aprents away for a break without having to hire a car. Much better.

citybranch · 28/11/2009 19:51

We have 2 DC and a people carrier.

But DH also has 2 DSs so we need a 7 seater to fit all of us in every other weekend.

BelleDameSansMerci · 28/11/2009 19:53

I have one small child and two cars. One is a two seater from before I had child and I will not be parted from it. The other is a four door sort of estate thing. I'm a single parent. I don't think it's anyone's business who drives what. If I had more money we'd have a big f-off Mercedes ML! And still keep the sports car.

HuwEdwards · 28/11/2009 19:54

agree with the white-shouldered one.

CarGirl · 28/11/2009 19:57

I currently have a 3 door micra which I absolutely love park it anywhere economical etc etc etc

Also have an alhambra which replaced our ancient espace, really not keen but when you have 4 dc a necessary evil.

Am very to have to sell the micra but we really don't need 2 cars anymore.

mamamia74 · 28/11/2009 19:58

I dont get the whole people carrier thing (hmm)
Isnt driving meant to be fun? Ive just had my 3rd child & refuse to trade in my mazda mx3 for a bus. However wish 4wd owners would remember that coupes have long doors & if you park too close i cant get back in without wacking your door sills!

onadietcokebreak · 28/11/2009 20:04

I am one son. My DP also has two children. We dont live together yet but have both said if either go one we will replace with a seven seater to make life easier in the future.

Trunk out YABVU

Bonsoir · 28/11/2009 20:06

My parents, whose children are long gone and who no longer live in the same country as them, have a people carrier. Why not? They transport lots of things (garden refuse, furniture etc) and occasionally a load of grandchildren.

PercyPigPie · 28/11/2009 20:10

So should people with only one child only have two bedrooms too?

fledtoscotland · 28/11/2009 21:34

is this a joke? are they not entitled to buy family-sized packs of anything? what about the size of the engine on their car?

besides anything else, why precisely does it concern you

DanDruff · 28/11/2009 21:38
