In hating the term LO

My very first AIBU.

I cannot stand the term Little One or LO. Its a phrase that is creeping out everywhere. Its so ugh and cutsie and twee. They are children. We don't need a euphemism for child.

I like little ones. And little darlings, and littluns. So there. But you are certainly not BU to have an opinion

scottishmummy · 21/11/2009 22:22

bigger, wittier things to obsess about than what someone else calls bubba

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2009 22:23

tragically, I am not very witty. But I have accepted that as one of my personal faults.

JesusChristOtterStar · 21/11/2009 22:27

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2009 22:27

Well, I thought I'd start with something small!

(tries to think of something at least a little interesting)

SugarSkyHigh · 21/11/2009 22:30

Little sods is my preferred term

Lotster · 21/11/2009 22:33

I tend to call them pickles, or monkeys.

Bad Kitten, all in all your first AIBU has gone alright!

My first one was about the DH, DD, DS nonsense, as I also hate nauseating acronyms - think you got a better ride

LetThereBeRock · 21/11/2009 22:33

While we're here may I also complain about people who refer to their '42 month old' child?

scottishmummy · 21/11/2009 22:34

42 yo child?wet boak

Lotster · 21/11/2009 22:36

I think I've had too much wine to work out the nearest year to that amount of months.

OhYouBadBadKitten · 21/11/2009 22:37

Little Sods. I can live with that. I suppose I can tell myself that LO stands for Little (S)Odds!

rock - you know those individual months - sooo important for comparing

LetThereBeRock · 21/11/2009 22:43

Oh and when people refer to two year olds as 'babies'.
Yes they are very young but they are not babies. You have a toddler now, accept it.

stressheaderic · 21/11/2009 22:44

To me, LO = Learning Objective. But I NEVER let them write L.O. instead, despite them asking every damn lesson .

Agree that LO is handy when enquiring politely after child of colleague/acquaintance, when you can't actually remember the gender...

JesusChristOtterStar · 21/11/2009 22:50

let there be rock

two year olds are babies imo

gingerbreadlatte · 22/11/2009 22:44

YANBU

I loathe term TODDLER

LetThereBeRock · 22/11/2009 22:46

They aren't technically babies though are they? A baby is a child up to one year old,or at least that's what we were taught in child care and development classes.

inveteratenamechanger · 22/11/2009 22:52

YANBU - it is not as bad as 'little man' though

Curiously, I love the word 'toddler' - sorry gingerbread.
