i work at a school part time, and someone called to say that my youngest was ill and needed collecting from her school.

i get there, and she is prefectly well and school nurse hasnt seen her all day.

so , someone who knows me and my odd timetable rang my work.

it was a female voice, who didnt give name, of course, and as they planned, i am pretty cheesed off with the whole thing.

thats disgusting, any idea who would do such a stupid thing.

MamaG · 16/11/2009 13:58

What a horrible thing to do

Iklboo · 16/11/2009 14:01

Did they actually call you by name and mention your DD's name? That's a terrible thing to do to anyone!

Seededbiatch · 16/11/2009 14:01

What a bizarre and creepy thing to do. How unsettling.

Poor you.

Do you have any idea who would such a strange thing? And why?

LilRedWG · 16/11/2009 14:01

That is awful. Poor you.

LilRedWG · 16/11/2009 14:03

Not to intentionally scare you but is the house secure? It wasn't someone trying to get you out of the house or anything was it? Have a check around and if you are at all concerned get call your local station for advice.

whoisasking · 16/11/2009 14:04

Have you any idea who would have done such a thing to you?

bellissima · 16/11/2009 14:04

Vile.

Is there any way the school (where you work) switchboard might have logged incoming call nos? It's not only vile but someone who actually causes you to rush off and leave responsibilities is a potential menace.

Bramshott · 16/11/2009 14:05

It couldn't be something innocent like the school mixing up numbers could it? Was there another child who WAS ill waiting to be collected ?

bridewolf · 16/11/2009 14:05

yes, they did call us by name.

OP posts:
LilRedWG · 16/11/2009 14:06

Ah - sorry, jsut reread and they called you at work. Equally vile but at least you don't have to worry about the house.

Sorry if I scared you.

edam · 16/11/2009 14:06

wow, that's horrible.

bridewolf · 16/11/2009 14:07

double checked wasnt another sick child, and name wise it couldnt be mixed up with another person.

OP posts:
Iklboo · 16/11/2009 14:07

That is so nasty. Who would find that sort of thing funny?

mel1981 · 16/11/2009 14:09

OMG!
But I did have the school phone me once to inform me my sons glasses had broke- I spent 5 mins arguing that my son didnt wear glasses! She used his name but must of got muddled with another child. So it could be the reason... Maybe they just didnt want to own up at getting it wrong?

mel1981 · 16/11/2009 14:10

sorry slow typer!!

bridewolf · 16/11/2009 14:11

this is no mistake, this was a hoax call, and i have as yet, no idea who did it.

some sad female out there needs some form of help.

OP posts:
verytellytubby · 16/11/2009 14:12

How un-nerving.

mel1981 · 16/11/2009 14:32

Obviously I have no idea, but could it be someone from your work? They would know your hours and possibly you DDs name. Very creepy though.

bellissima · 16/11/2009 14:42

I have to say (I've been thinking about this one!) that if the switchboard can't get the number then in my experience (obscene caller some years ago) telephone companies don't really want to get involved in tracing and will fob you off with a call filter system (not really appropriate here). But if anything like this happens again I would call the police - or better still, get your employer ie the school to report it if they will. I just think it's actually a really nasty thing to do.

squirrel3 · 16/11/2009 15:02

I had something similar happen to me years ago, someone phoned the school pretending to be me and asked if they could tell my dd she wasn't to go home after school she was to go to her Grandmothers.

When my daughter was told this she knew that something was up because I haven't had anything to do with my mother since I was 16! She was very upset by it, the school contacted me and I confirmed that it wasn't the case.

Again there was no way there could have been a mix up because my surname is very, very unusual. After that when I phoned the school about anything I had to say a 'secret phrase' to identify myself.

And yes, I did collect her from school that day (even though she was 15, in secondary school and was highly embarrassed about mum picking her up from school).

It is really alarming so I know how you feel, maybe use a 'secret phrase' to confirm who is speaking? DD's school put the one we used on the contact number etc so there could be no mistake.

RnB · 16/11/2009 15:05

How awful

Hope you're ok.

at Sqirrel3's story too

ChilloHippi · 16/11/2009 15:14

That's so shocking and very, very creepy. I really cannot understand how someone would get a kick out of doing it.
Squirrel3 mentioned the 'secret phrase'. It could be a good thing to set up, so if the school rings you they say it so you know it is genuine, and if you ring the school you say it so the school can be sure it is you.

tigerbear · 16/11/2009 15:32

That's awful. Utterly shocked by anyone who would do such a thing.

squirrel3 · 16/11/2009 15:37

I can say the phrase we used now as dd has left school and has children of her own, the phrase we used was "Here comes the pony express", lol.
