i work at a school part time, and someone called to say that my youngest was ill and needed collecting from her school.

i get there, and she is prefectly well and school nurse hasnt seen her all day.

so , someone who knows me and my odd timetable rang my work.

it was a female voice, who didnt give name, of course, and as they planned, i am pretty cheesed off with the whole thing.

Forgot to add we never got to the bottom of it and it never happened again, but it gave me peace of mind to know that any phone calls were genuine with the 'phrase'.

SerendipitousHarlot · 16/11/2009 15:41

Can you ask the school if they can ask their telephony service provider for a call logging report? I'd assume that she was savvy enough to withold her number, but you never know.

shootfromthehip · 16/11/2009 15:44

What a shitty, horrible thing to happen. Take care x

wannaBe · 16/11/2009 15:48

that's quite creepy.

My mum took a call from a woman once wanting to leave a message for one of her colleagues - the message related to her dh, and shook her quite badly. It turned out some months down the line that the woman was a woman the dh had been having an affair with.

Not to alarm you but could it be something like that? An ow perhaps wanting to upset you?

I bet you are driving yourself insane trying to figure out who is so sick they would do that.

gagamama · 16/11/2009 16:46

Oh my goodness, that's horrendous. Absolutely sickening. I assume it's far too late to dial 1471? The number probably would've been withheld. I think in future if you receive a call from the school you should ask if it's ok for you to call them back, to verify they're who they say they are... but when someone is telling you your child is sick, the last thing you want to be doing is be fannying around when you just want to know what's wrong and go and get them ASAP.

Really feel for you.

groundhogs · 16/11/2009 17:11

Try not to let it get to you.

Speak to the school and get the secret phrases system instigated for your family in the immediate instance.

Go and talk to the Head as soon as you can about this.

bridewolf · 16/11/2009 22:17

am hoping this wont happen again, am trying not to over think this...........

Squirrel3, I'd be suspecting your dd's peers on that one - a 15 year old could sound adult on the phone, wouldn't know about your family relationships, & might think it funny to send dd to the wrong place just to mess her about?

OP - again, do you work in a secondary? & have you annoyed any students recently? I'm speculating 'Ha ha, let's send Ms Bridewolf on a wild goose chase, that'll get her back for putting us in detention last week'

Very upsetting for you.
