to be utterly hacked off because my dp has invited most of his friends round for a full roast dinner on Boxing day?

I am so not amused.

I am cooking Christmas dinner for our two children, dp's brother and two of his friends as their family are all in Australia.
Absolutely fine. Looking forward to it.

DP has informed me this week that he has invited 14 people round on Boxing day for a roast with all the trimmings.

  1. We cannot seat 14 people plus our own family makes 18.

2.He is expecting me to sort and pay for all the food. No fucking chance I said.

  1. After a mad Christmas day the last thing I want is to be cooking and entertaining all of his friends, I won't get to sit down and relax on Christmas day, I never do. Now I am expected to slave in the bloody kitchen onBoxing day as well whilst he gets pissed and generally gets on my nerves.
  1. After mentioning that actually we haven't got anywhere to put all these people, he then came out with the classic; "oh don't worry, I've thought of that we can go to XX's house, he's got the room and you can cook for us all there!"

I don't even know where to begin with this one, am starting by telling him that he can fecking well cook if he wants to do the full roast thing.
Please give me some ideas though, this one deserves maximum punishment.

"He is Not Talking To Me. (he hung up)" Good, nice and quiet then.

dutchmanswife · 16/11/2009 11:48

"Think of Our Lord, he didn't take days off"

Yes he did, it was called the Sabbath wasn't it?

EccentricaGallumbits · 16/11/2009 11:51

stay strong. don't give in. don't compromise.

Hullygully · 16/11/2009 11:51

No, that was our heavenly father. Our lord didn't, he got in terrible trouble with the pharisees over it.

Hullygully · 16/11/2009 11:52

On another note, is you is or is you ain't a complete mug most of the time?

Fibilou · 16/11/2009 11:54

Well, difficult because my DH wouldn't dare to do that without consulting me first ! We do entertain a lot over Xmas so having 18 people in the house (if I could fit them in) would be fine for me as I love feeding people. But it would be on my terms, nobody would be dictating to me what I was doing.

I would tell him there will be a buffet or nothing.

verytellytubby · 16/11/2009 11:57

He's mad. Tell him to fuck off and cook it himself.

We always have about 14 friends over on Boxing day but it's a buffet and everyone brings a dish. We are not doing this year as we want a quiet day.

Tortington · 16/11/2009 11:57

toddlers who tantrum need to be ignored.

itsmeolord · 16/11/2009 12:01

well gavelled Poledra.

Hully you are very norty.

Yes, am sticking to my guns, he shall either have to bankrupt himself taking them all to the pub whilst I lounge with the kids or he can sod off to his friends house and take them all with him.

And have that tattoo that says MUG removed from your forehead, woman.

said · 16/11/2009 12:02

Why would he have to pay for them all if went to the pub?

itsmeolord · 16/11/2009 12:03

Custy there will be no teating in this house until he has apologised.

OP posts:
itsmeolord · 16/11/2009 12:03

Um, if I was a mug surely I would have just said yes wouldn't I?

Itsmelord,

How many children do you have?.

Is he really pulling his weight within your relationship here?. These are the actions of a thoughtless not just to say selfish person, a person who did not think to ask you about this hare brained scheme beforehand. Why do you think that is?.

I would not do anything for him re this Boxing Day full stop. If he wants this then he can buy the food and prepare it for them.

And now he is having a strop, typical immature manchild behaviour this.

Hullygully · 16/11/2009 12:06

Let us make sure the possibility does not arise again

JackBauer · 16/11/2009 12:09

Yes. Twat indeed.

Why don't you suggest he cooks Christmas dinner as practice for his Boxing day extravanganza.

clam · 16/11/2009 12:11

Hully's got me wondering about who Our Lord got to do the catering at the Last Supper. He had about 12 mates round for that, didn't He?
One of the wimmin, I expect. Pah.

verytellytubby · 16/11/2009 12:11

I would be furious if my DH paid for 14 of his mates for lunch at the pub on Boxing day? What's wrong with them? Why should you pay?

itsmeolord · 16/11/2009 12:14

Attila, we have two. He is not included in that count.

He does pull his weight, yes he has been an utter twat today and he does have some personality traits that really piss me off, (the sulking and strops), but then again, I am probably just as irritating in other ways. Most of us are,

He is impulsive and thats not always a good thing hence this thread and yes I am really cross with him but for the most part he is ok.

He helps with childcare, does a bit around the house. I do more but thats because I like things done in a certain way...... he is thoughtful quite alot, I had a thread recently where he had surprised me with a netbook out of the blue.
The money is only unequal because I am the higher earner and I'm happy with that within reason, ie I won't pay for 14 of his mates to eat on Boxing day....

He isn't perfect but I don't think this boxing day thing is a relationship warning siren. It is fucking annoying, but not a dealbreaker.

OP posts:
thelunar66 · 16/11/2009 12:19

surely if they all go to the pub, they will each pay for themselves?

itsmeolord · 16/11/2009 12:26

No lunar, because he has offered to have them all for dinner, in his tiny little mind that equates to he will pay for them all to eat if I refuse to cook.

I think that is probably a bit of an emotional blackmail attempt though. And it's not working.

Might get my very large irish catholic family to start leaving messages on our home answermachine thanking us for the invite for christmas dinner and isn't it wonderful how Mr Itsmeolord is cooking......

OP posts:
Acanthus · 16/11/2009 12:48

Just because he is telling you that he would have to pay for 14 of them, doesn't mean that all his mates will expect or allow that, it would be most odd. It's just part of his strop I think.

Chickenshavenolips · 16/11/2009 12:53

I dare you to show him this thread, Itsmeolord

Jamieandhismagictorch · 16/11/2009 12:53

Are all his mates men. Am imagining a rugby team ....

(not in a good way)
