To think that toast, yoghurt and banana is a perfectly adequate breakfast for an 8 month old?

And the HV is talking shite? (shocker, I know!)

LaurieScaryCake · 13/11/2009 08:52

she's insane

just carry on and ignore

wtf did she expect? caviare and blinis?

BecauseImWorthIt · 13/11/2009 08:52

What on earth is wrong with it?

Carbs, calcium, some protein and vits/minerals.

What is the HV saying you should give?

LibrasBiscuitsOfFortune · 13/11/2009 08:54

I think toast, yogurt and a banana is a perfectly good breakfast meal for an adult. Much better than the shite most people eat for breakfast. What were her particular objections?

shockers · 13/11/2009 08:54

Hv's do talk a lot of shite in my experience... nod, smile and use your common sense and you won't go far wrong

QueenOfFlamingEverything · 13/11/2009 08:56

Sounds pretty good to me.

What would she rather - a bowl of frosties? Nutella on toast?

pigletmania · 13/11/2009 08:58

OH my goodness some HV are talking utter shite.I did not have much to do with them tbh and stayed away. My 2.8 year old has toast, banana and youghurts whats wrong with that! She is not a cereal eater, the number of times iv had to throw it away in the bin and does not like eggs either. I just give her what she likes for breakfast within reason, she is a happy and healthy little girl.

Vivia · 13/11/2009 08:58

Pizza?

Jujubean77 · 13/11/2009 08:59

I'd be happy if my nearly 3 yo dd ate that

MrsBadger · 13/11/2009 08:59

oh please tell us what she suggested

steak? spinach?

or is she of the ' 8mo baby is eating Human Food' persuasion and would rather you gave Farleys' packet crapola?

FlamingoBingo · 13/11/2009 08:59

What the the HV say? Sounds like a fantastic breakfast. Can't imagine any of my 8m olds eating that much at breakfast.

pigletmania · 13/11/2009 09:00

What does this hv expect that you give an 8 month BABY, a full english, my goodness. At that age they are getting most of their nutrition from milk, any other food is extra fgs some talk crap.

CharCharGabor · 13/11/2009 09:00

God, at 8 months DD didn't even eat breakfast! What did she suggest?

TheChewyToffeeMum · 13/11/2009 09:01

What's wrong with that? My 1yr old has it every day .

girlsyearapart · 13/11/2009 09:14

Good grief why not? Sounds perfectly fine to me.

Mine had (14mo) bottle of hypoallergenic crap milk, organix cereal bar, some dry Rice Kripies shapes and a (homemade) biscuit. She has been up since 530 mind you.

Dd1 (2.2) had a cereal bar, 3 satsumas and a banana. Tropical juice to drink.

I started off with tea and porridge but have just given into a chocolate spread sarnie. I have been up since 530 mind you.

God help that HV if she came here!

allaboutme · 13/11/2009 09:18

sounds like a fine breakfast for anyone!
my boys had toast and nutella!

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 13/11/2009 09:19

Sounds fine to me! Ds would be less than impressed with it though (demands ready brek, toast, fruit, yoghurt and then more toast.)

TAFKAAAAAARGHtheUrbanDryad · 13/11/2009 09:19

MrsB has it - she noticed the packet of Hipp baby porridge and asked why she didn't have that instead. I explained that dd isn't keen in spoon feeding (we do spoon feed yoghurt but strangely she seems ok with that! ) and I don't think she likes the texture of porridge very much. She suggested giving Weetabix with warm milk, but I explained that as ds has an allergy to raw dairy I wasn't keen on introducing milk too early, and certainly not before 12 months, as I'm sure that's what gave ds his eczema and dairy intolerance.

Dd is a great eater - certainly much better than ds was at this age, but still nurses at around 2 hourly intervals in the day (she pretty much goes through the night!) so I'm not too worried that she's not getting the right nutrients.

The galling thing is that I didn't even really want to see the HV for dd - I don't have any concerns about her - I've been trying to get some help for ds with his behaviour, it's been like getting blood out of a stone and I think we're ok without their help tbh, but she started going on about dd and her eating habits. Strange woman. Younger than me too - and I'm pretty young!

I found I had to ignore whatever my HV said, and never admit to any problems that I was actually happening, because she always made me feel worse. Don't tell them anything, and it sounds like a great breakfast and quick and easy which always helps

weegiemum · 13/11/2009 09:22

I wish any of my 5, 7, and 9 YEAR olds would eat that for breakfast.

This morning.

dd1 - yoghurt and banana
ds - huge bowl of Weetos (chocolate crap)
dd2 - 1 satsuma. And nothing woudl persuade her to have more!

They do go into breakfast club when they get to school (leave early at 8 for the bus) and have toast/cereal there as well.

midnightexpress · 13/11/2009 09:22

Silly woman. Did she tell you what her concerns were with what you are giving your DD?

Ninks · 13/11/2009 09:23

I remember being told off for giving DS fruit instead of chocolate pudding from a jar for dessert when he was that age.

Nothing wrong with that breakfast, it sounds ideal. Lots of HVs seem to be of the "Human Food" persuasion sadly.

TAFKAAAAAARGHtheUrbanDryad · 13/11/2009 09:24

She said there wasn't enough calcium in it and that dd would have weak legs. As this was while dd was cruising round the furniture I kind of sniggered a bit and looked at her like this ->

OP posts:
pigletmania · 13/11/2009 09:28

I would have given her a full bodied lecture and sent her packing. ooooh i hate it i hate it. If your dc does not want you cant force them to have. FGS at that age babies take most of thier calcuim from milk fgs and plus they are getting extra from cheese yoghurts oooooh it makes me interferring gutter snipes

girlsyearapart · 13/11/2009 09:30

Wierdo (HV that is)

Funny the spoon feeding thing- my dds only ever liked yoghurt/jelly/mousse basically only the sweet stuff spoon fed to them from around same age as your dd.

My dd2 has so many allergies that she eats a very random combo at times and she is fine and strong.

Weak legs indeed

pigletmania · 13/11/2009 09:31

My dd hated porridge there was no way you could get it down her and weetabix was a struggle i just gave up when she was about 2 and she has toast and yogurts and fruit.
