I thought she came over so well in the C4 prog. Her kids are healthy and beautiful. The nasty stuff bandied round about her is disgusting.

I have completely changed my attitude since watching the programme. AIBU!

I didn't see that she wanted more - she didn't sound as if she did on the programme. She said she would not have chosen to have 14. I thought she was a bit mental, wanting 7 kids in the first place so close together, but she seems a very chilled out Mum and I'm sure if she'd just had seven no-one would have heard of her. Sounds as if her doctor was the one who should have known better - and the programme said he had been struck off. Irresponsible of him to put her in that position.

I thought she was OK and came across quite well. As she said, now she's in that position, she has to do the best she can, and I honestly can't think what else she could do now. People who say she should work are obviously mental. Childcare for 14 children?? What's she going to be, an investment banker?!

Can't understand all the abuse she gets and the media are just horrible. She has my sympathy and my admiration for not going stark raving mad!

StealthPolarBear · 13/11/2009 09:28

not agreeing she should work at all but it sounds like she already has FT nannies

pigletmania · 13/11/2009 09:34

Well what can you do, she made her bed now she has to lie in it, i know that it sounds harsh but we all have decisions to make in life and consequences.

hellsbelles · 13/11/2009 09:37

I have to agree that it changed my attitude a bit - I thought the scene when they were all eating and crying for food and then she managed to get some calm by singing to them was actually very sweet.

But the behaviour of the oldest child shows that something is very wrong. It wasn't that he was hiding what was upsetting him. He said again and again - 'stop filming me, stop talking about me to them'.... and despite saying to him 'I'm not' - she was!

I did think the support team she had around her seemed good and I do hope she manages to keep it all together - after all, what's done is done and they are out in the world now so good luck to them!

Disenchanted3 · 13/11/2009 09:50

But all said and done its the DOCTORS fault not hers really.

If he went and said Ive got 6 embyoes left HE should have said well under california law the most I can put back is 3.

She wanted 6 because her previous IVF rounds with high numbers of eggs had produced singletons and 1 set of teins.

I really don't think she expected to be a mum of 14.

But she is, and shes a great mum.

She is dealing with what happened and people can say 'those poor babies' but they have someone there 24/7 they have love from their mum,

Hell Ive got 3 kids and can't say i spend enough 'quality time' with each as I should.

Whats the alternative?

Throw all 14 into care? Have them going from foster home to foster home??

The American public are idiotic.

They moan because they suspect she is living on STATE HANDOUTs, but shes not

so they moan because she is using media deals to raise her children out of her own pocket.

They don't want the state to help her financially but they want the kids to be taken into state care.

How much state money would it cost to raise 14 kids to adulthood??

And the death threats are sickening, who would threaten to kill a mum of 14 ust for having them??

StealthPolarBear · 13/11/2009 09:52

death threats? poor woman

belgo · 13/11/2009 09:55

Totally agree Disenchanted, has the doctor who implanted the embryos still practising? Has he ever been held accountable?

StealthPolarBear · 13/11/2009 09:57

hopefully she doesn't have time to open her own post though
[joke]

Disenchanted3 · 13/11/2009 09:57

The doctors been struck off.

chopstheduck · 13/11/2009 09:58

In the last programn, her mother said that one of the reasons Nadya had all the embryos implanted was because they were otherwise going to be destroyed.

I have 4 including dts, no way I could cope with 10 more. The thing is too, I foudn that with dts the baby stage was a lot easier than the stage when they got mobile and started crawling off in opposite directions and destroying the house, getting into scrapes, etc.

Disenchanted3 · 13/11/2009 10:00

I think its a sad reflection of our time generally.

Its the internet and media that have demonised this poor woman anf the internet that allows such gossip and hatred to be spread so easily.

My grans mum had 10 kids. AND she was really ill, my gran from a very young age brought up her siblings whilst her mum was bedbound.

My granny cannot read or write now as she spend her childhood in the wash house and shopping for food rather than gtting an education.

But nodody sent my grat grandma death threats.

belgo · 13/11/2009 10:08

good I'm glad the doctor is no longer practising.

hellsbelles · 13/11/2009 10:11

Do you think there is more of a backlash because of how she looks (v. glam, alledgedly surgically enhanced and slim)? I don't think there should be - but do you think that is something to do with it?

belgo · 13/11/2009 10:13

probably hellsbells, it's because she's trying to look like Angelina Jolie that makes her seem even more freaky.

Booyhoo · 13/11/2009 10:18

i didnt think i would enjoy the programme, but my god that woman.

she does an amazing job wit those children.

yes i felt her older children were displaying signs that they were lacking in attention but i note one of her employees was a child behavourist. (or similar, cant quite remember the correct name)

she placed no restrictions on what was filmed. she is brave. but IMO she has nothing to be ashamed of. her mother seems bonkers. why would you go to your daughters house if you knew you werent welcome?

couldnt believe the food bill. $1000 a week!!! dont envy her, not one little bit.

i'm glad the court decision was overturned because otherwise she would have been in real trouble trying to keep all her children fed, clothed and catered for.

i think its disgusting the way she was being treated in the media/on internet. people clearly dont want to see her make a good job of a difficult situation.

really has changed my opinion of her. she seemed to really care about all of her children, she spoke with nothing but affection to them all, held her temper really well faced with the screwdriver. i dont think she should have any more children, she has enough on her plate and her children really do need as much of her attention as she can give.

Booyhoo · 13/11/2009 10:28

loved the bit where the lawyer said he was a bit of a father figure and helped out as much as he could.... eh yeah because she's paying you a fortune!! you're not doing out out of the goodness of your heart.

also, when she pretended to forget angelina jolie's name, that was funny. she wrote the woman bloody fanmail fgs.

apart from that she came across really well.

must go see to my 1 child

Firawla · 13/11/2009 10:31

oh no i missed it, would have liked to watch
unless its the same as the one that was on sky1 before? is it that or something else?

paisleyleaf · 13/11/2009 10:57

I'm sure that food bill could be brought right down if out of the $1000 there was a cook employed using fresh ingredients and cooking meals to a lower budget.
Those trolleys full of jars and the children feeding themselves crisps and cokes from the cupboards has got to be an expensive way of doing it.

minko · 13/11/2009 10:59

Yes, did wish they'd ask her about those lips and alleged plastic surgery. Pretending not to know Jolie's name was a bit stupid though...

Arsed · 13/11/2009 11:06

I thought she was awesome and her babies were soooo lovely

Those lips of hers can't be real though, cant they ?

Booyhoo · 13/11/2009 11:06

i thought that about the food bill aswell paisley.

i noticed when she was doing the shopping she was buying loads of baby food jars, thats bumping the bill right up. a cook to make homemade meals would be better all round. i also wouldnt have been going to the supermarket to buy all that. i would have done it online. but perhaps its a welcome break from the house to her.

GreenMonkies · 13/11/2009 11:07

She has staff, so she doesn't do it all herself.

It looked chaotic and random to me. There was always a few babies/children crying, no one seemed calm except her, and I'm not convinced she was calm, seemed more detached really. The whole situation is horrific.

mamadiva · 13/11/2009 11:22

I think she is quite a selfish woman with regards to the kids, who in their right mind would purposely have 7 kids through IVF when you will be sole carer for them?

I know I said 7 but I meant as far as she was concerned to start with I hope to god she didn't expect to end up with 14

About the money I really do think that yes she probably is doing the only possible thing with the deals and stuff but surely she could restrict it rather than making it a free for all basically. A family needs some sort of privacy!

Feel reallys orry for older kids though it seemed that they were being put to the side and yes I do realise that babies need more attention etc but those poor kids, some of them are still babies themselves

Tryharder · 13/11/2009 12:50

Meant to watch it but forgot. It sounds a bit horrific though. Imagine growing up in that circus with cameras intruding - like living in the Big Brother house indefinitely. Horrible. Not sure whether the kids would have a better life in care though, think it's a lose-lose situation

And agree with others, she's mad- absolutely doolally. I really hope she doesn't have anymore children.

diddl · 13/11/2009 13:05

How hold are the older ones?
She also has 4 nannies, I think.

So, 5 adults for 14 children isn´t a bad ratio.
