it is schlocky coupley.she is pg - he isnt

ihatemyjob · 12/11/2009 19:22

I hate this too. I alwasy want to say are they both going to give birth too? Why don't they just say we are having a baby.

ClaireDeLoon · 12/11/2009 19:24

I've never announced we were ttc - thank God. One close friend knew because I had a mc two years ago and she knew about that and knew we were trying afterwards and my mum also knew but only from this summer when I had related health niggles. I think you're just putting stress on yourself and it's also a personal thing isn't it.

scottishmummy · 12/11/2009 19:30

revealing ttc is like saying shagging with no contraception.too much information

GhoulsAreLoud · 12/11/2009 19:32

A friend went to a dinner party hosted by a couple, the main purpose of the evening turned out to be that they had decided to ttc the following year.

Weirdness.

GhoulsAreLoud · 12/11/2009 19:33

The purpose being to announce it, I should say.

scottishmummy · 12/11/2009 19:34

lol.imagine scene."we are ttc boffing like rabbits"

very nice creme brulee dear

tribpot · 12/11/2009 19:36

"pregâ‹…nant
1  /ˈprɛgnənt/ Show Spelled Pronunciation [preg-nuhnt]
?adjective

  1. having a child or other offspring developing in the body; with child or young, as a woman or female mammal"

(from an online dictionary)

On the other hand, I can sympathise with wickedwitch, both in the sense of struggling to conceive and in the sense that such intense 'situations' for want of a better word it feels so much like a joint experience almost literally - so I will talk about "us" having appointments with this consultant and that consultant (for dh's chronic illness) - yes I am present but they are dh's appointments and I am not the one living with chronic pain.

I still wouldn't say "we are pregnant" though. Ick.

chegirl · 12/11/2009 19:38

I hate it and think its weird.

It doesnt make any sense either.

MadBadandDangerousToKnow · 12/11/2009 19:38

I agree. "We are pregnant" is biologically impossible, except for lesbian couples both pregnant at the same time. Nobody else should say it. Ever.

scottishmummy · 12/11/2009 19:46

do they also say we are menstruating/lactating/in labour. sharing the female experience

ClaireDeLoon · 12/11/2009 20:12

Having a dinner party to announce you're ttc is just beyond strange.

jasper · 12/11/2009 20:15

yanbu
hideous, smug expression

wickedwitchofwaterloo · 13/11/2009 03:23

er yes, those are precisely the words I'll use to sum up the sheer indescribable joy I will be feeling when we are I am () pregnant
hideous and smug
ABSOLUTELY

anonymous85 · 13/11/2009 06:14

hehe I told everyone we're going to TTC on our honeymoon, suffer hahaha

GhoulsAreLoud · 13/11/2009 07:44

Well, we won't actually suffer, will we.

I hope it happens quickly for you anonymous. Some people are just going to keep asking if you're pregnant now.

anonymous85 · 13/11/2009 07:52

No you wont lucky you

I fell at the honeymoon 20 weeks now, both really wanted a honeymoon baby

Didn't really think of other people cringing at the time lol

girlsyearapart · 13/11/2009 07:52

Aaaargh hate the 'We are pregnant' thing. Makes me feel queasy.

Also dislike anyone else knowing we are ttc. Apart from on here only 1 v good friend knows. Even DH asked me if I was 'still off the pill' the other day There was me thinking we had had a discussion about trying for another baby..

If you know someone is ttc you feel compelled to ask them if they're pg all the time or you feel rude.

StealthPolarBear · 13/11/2009 07:53

I don't mind it - they just mean they're in it together and both excited!
Agree announcing you're ttc is odd, I only ever discussed it with friends who had a child of the same age and were probably ttc themselves! Also told my mum last time at Christmas as I didn't fancy being offered a drink at the dinner table- luckily I got a positive test a few days later, I didn't fancy giving her updates

tinkerbellesmuse · 13/11/2009 08:06

"we're pregnant" wants to make me vomit.

And agree announcing we're TTC is waaaaaaaaaaaaaay to much info.

Mind I'm a grumpy cow who is just about sick of being asked if we're ttc!

GhoulsAreLoud · 13/11/2009 09:05

Congratulations anonymous

Can we add to the list people who think they're very clever for getting pregnant quickly.

girlsyearapart · 13/11/2009 09:08

Disagree Stealth- 'WE are expecting a baby' 'OUR baby is due on xyz day' yes.

WE are NOT pregnant SHE is.
WE are equally not going to spend the next 9 months drinking/smoking/eating pate.

We are pregnant is just incorrect and wierd.

StealthPolarBear · 13/11/2009 09:34

i know it's incorrect but just think it's sweet
I wouldn't say it (technicallity as 'we' are planning never to be pg again )

lovechoc · 13/11/2009 09:40

eugh how nauseating. I'm pg but I wouldn't go around announcing to friends and family 'we're pregnant!' it just sounds so wrong. since when did the man fall pregnant?? I got a text of a mum friend last year when she announced 'we're pregnant!'. I just cringed, happy for her, but really cringed.

YA definately NBU.
