is it wrong to do an IKEA run

While husband is away doing charity work at the end of November ?
I want to buy lots of "tat" that he objects to if he comes with me, such as Christmas decs and plastic storage boxes. He's away for 10 days so I could get in a sneaky visit and then hide everything. Probably about £50s worth.
Or is that morally wrong ?

YANBU sounds ideal! You're doing him a favour really by not requiring him to come .

famishedass · 06/11/2009 22:11

Oh God, YANBU - if he's gonna moan, go without him.

hatesponge · 06/11/2009 22:14

YANBU

i'm only jealous that, as I have no car, I can't go to Ikea myself...well I could, but theres no way I could carry all the crap useful items I would buy all the way home on the bus

Pingpong · 06/11/2009 22:14

sounds perfectly reasonable to me!

Kammy · 07/11/2009 08:46

Extremely reasonable. My dh will now let me do almost anything rather than accompany me to Ikea.....

DoingTheBestICan · 07/11/2009 08:50

Def NBU, in fact you are doing him a massive favour by going on your own.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 07/11/2009 08:52

Its the reason why im learning to drive. So I can drive myself there and not have to hear him say "we dont neeeeed it"

sassy · 07/11/2009 08:53

YNBU.

But I went to Ikea yesterday and was disappointed by the Xmas decs etc - not as good a selection as I remember from previous years and quite expensive - £5 for 8 paper dec's FGS?

ninedragons · 07/11/2009 08:56

Go. Men hate Ikea.

Last time we went together, I said loudly to DH while we were in the queue "Thank you for taking me to Ikea, darling. I'll keep my part of the deal and let you take me up the arse tonight"

Obviously we had had no such arrangement but he was and in equal measure.

dexter73 · 07/11/2009 09:52

Definitely NBU - can I come too?!

NorbertDentressangle · 07/11/2009 09:54

YANBU provididng you also buy a Daim cake and share it with me when you get back

Lotster · 07/11/2009 10:10

There's a cake ??

NorbertDentressangle · 07/11/2009 10:13

Cake!

Available in the cafe and the food bit by the exit.

choosyfloosy · 07/11/2009 10:15

I can't offhand think of anything more reasonable.

Can I come? Road trip to IKEA is one of my favourite occupations

Lotster · 07/11/2009 10:17

Ohhhh, looks filthy and I want it.

bluejeans · 07/11/2009 10:19

YANBU I went to Ikea last week purely to eat meatballs in the cafe

Still came away with £34 of tat

My DH gets stressed at Ikea and can only go in, grab a box of whatever and straight back out - no fun at all so yes go on your own!

Also recommend the pear cider to take home with you!

borderslass · 07/11/2009 10:21

that cake is amazing got it for my daughters 16th 2 years ago as she has egg allergy she loved itHubby's never been to IKEA always go to most shops myself.

TsarChasm · 07/11/2009 10:22

YANBU!

Ikwym about the tat little essentials that IKEA do so well. I love them too and dh always huffs and puffs.

Standing at the entrance to the floor that does all those goodies, basket in hand, I was about to get stuck in and dh said 'Ok now control yourself! We don't need it all'

(Don't forget candles. They do large sized T lights which are lovely)

borderslass · 07/11/2009 10:24

I got my daughter a lovely hanging bird lamp from IKEA 3 years ago shes now 14 but still loves it.

pranma · 07/11/2009 10:28

Gosh my OH hates Ikea too and I love it.I must go on my own sometime.

Northernlurker · 07/11/2009 10:32

Daim cake can now be bought in Tesco, Sainsburys and Morrisons! No meatballs though...

NorbertDentressangle · 07/11/2009 10:32

My DP must be odd then as he actually quite likes Ikea, although I think its more the lure of the Gravadlax and meatballs TBH.

Even DD requested to go there as a treat recently (and thats not to the play area but the shop, the DC have never been in the play bit). Is that a bit weird for a child?

MissAnneElk · 07/11/2009 10:36

Norbert - how odd - I was just about to post to say my DH likes Ikea too. I was going to ask if that was grounds to leave him! He doesn't even like the food much.

bluejeans · 07/11/2009 10:36

Ah Gravadlax - that couple from The Restaurant should've gone to Ikea not Asda!

mrsgBANGing · 07/11/2009 10:40

dh and i both adore ikea and he's very reasonable about the purchase of tat.

tis a match made in heaven - i hope our kids grow up like yours norbert. spect they will
