is it wrong to do an IKEA run

While husband is away doing charity work at the end of November ?
I want to buy lots of "tat" that he objects to if he comes with me, such as Christmas decs and plastic storage boxes. He's away for 10 days so I could get in a sneaky visit and then hide everything. Probably about £50s worth.
Or is that morally wrong ?

Last time I was in IKEA someone stole £60 out of my hand! There was no toddler bed for DS3 that day.

But generally I love IKEA and DH hates it. I live a 10 minute walk from it so sometimes just go if I'm bored. DS1 gets an hour in the play area and I get an hour of peace.

They deliver some stock but it would be cheaper to get it put in a taxi!

chickbean · 07/11/2009 19:18

Go!

Have already admitted to my own Ikea obsession on previous threads (went on both my 40th and last wedding anniversary ). Bizarrely, it's the only place my husband actually likes shopping at - he buys almost everything else online and would probably otherwise list shopping as his least favourite occupation.

whomovedmychocolatecookie · 07/11/2009 19:27

They've actually just massively cut delivery costs at our local Ikea. You can also get an agent to go to Ikea for you for a charge. They even put your furniture together!

I must be the only one who looks online at what she wants, goes to Ikea and only buys those things then?

The kids LOVE Ikea particularly the toilets

My DF went with my DM last week (on the weekend the complete numpties and my dad is still going on about how horrible it was ) My mum said 'I won't take him next time, he just stood there sulking and complaining about all the walking round'.

It amazes me the amount of people standing moaning in Ikea about 'the hell that is being in Ikea'. It's not compulsory FFS, don't go if you don't like it.

But to get back to the OP yes go. Buy him some organisational stuff and then hide his things. Just for fun you understand. I went to Lakeland and got those knicker drawer organisers and sorted out DH's pants. He was so confused and asked me where they had all gone because 'there's just these rolled up things in here now' hehehehehhe

My husband loves Ikea. I have to rein him in, not the other way round. That and his hatred of football are pretty much why I adore him.

FlyMeToDunoon · 07/11/2009 19:36

I don't have a car so Ikea has previously been a slog.
I now go to Ikea with two women friends who have cars! We go in the evening. It's quiet, we have dinner [meatballs mmmmm] and we all discuss at length every detail of what we need/want/see.
Heaven.

WebDude · 12/11/2009 20:12

Thanks whomovedmychocolatecookie - let's hope charges for delivery have dropped for others too (I assume so).

I might have a bit of a buying spree before VAT goes back up (OK, OK, I'll maybe save a fiver if I am lucky, but I want some presents for myself this Christmas, not just some special treat for my cat to enjoy eating!)

WebDude · 12/11/2009 20:15

Sorry to read of that theft, Butterball - surely they have some CCTV and security staff there though? No chance of catching anyone?

Lapsedrunner · 12/11/2009 20:16

I went on Tue , for yet another Billy for DH's books!

porcamiseria · 13/11/2009 09:27

err cant beleive you are even asking, GO TO IKEA AND BUY SOME CACK!

girlsyearapart · 13/11/2009 09:41

My DH shops like this:

Me- We need a chest of drawers from Ikea
DH- ok

Me- secret meaning we also will get cushions/candles/towels/duvet covers

DH- We will go to Ikea buy the drawers and come home.

BOOOORRRING. Now I need to go again (though the drawers are nice)

One my Dad took me and my heavily pg sister to Ikea which was a revelation in itself but when we were there she saw a sofa in Bargain Corner.

We had it on the back seat of my dads tiny car with me laying on it and the boot tied together with string.

That was 8 years ago. Dad has never been to Ikea since.

YANBU go go go

girlywhirly · 13/11/2009 10:09

I'm amazed that anyone can 'only' plan to spend £50 in Ikea!!

Having said that, DH wants another CD storage tower and the poang chair could do with a new cushion......

kreecherlivesupstairs · 13/11/2009 10:57

I went last week, not sure if they have them in England (UK), but I got a brilliant bag for around 50chf so about 30 quid. Just the right size for going away for a couple of days.
My top tip is to go in through the till outs, that way you get to the interesting stuff in the market place without having to slog through the rooms.

Bonsoir · 13/11/2009 10:59

Morally wrong to buy plastic storage boxes from Ikea?behind your DH's back?

I think you need to realign your moral priorities and I mean that with the very best of intentions.

IMoveTheStarsForNoOne · 13/11/2009 10:59

YANBU! i'm intending on doing this next week

he thinks I'm going for stuff we need [evil cackle]
