Vile place...he only does it so he can have a burger .

I would prefer she did not eat in such places, but I guess, he can take her where he wants when he takes her out.

IABU aren't i?

I have just remembered - dh had never been to a burger joint until he met me - but I maintain that his descent into the underworld of fast food wasn't my fault. He went to pick up my engagement ring, that had been resized, but got there early and the shop wasn't open. The only place nearby where he could get a coffee was a Burger King - and that was his first step on the slippery slope!

jasper · 04/11/2009 21:09

The service at Poshcountry Hotel is fantastic. They bring your food really quickly. I honestly don't know how they do it

Is that Fast food?

Iggi999 · 04/11/2009 21:17

We don't eat in McDonalds for ethical/environmental/socialist reasons, that it's crap for your health is just the randombitinthenuggets icing on the cake!

jasper · 04/11/2009 21:42

Now why does that not surprise me?
What exactly are the ethical / environmental/socialist reasons?

BexieID · 04/11/2009 21:54

I usually bring Tom sarnies when we go, as he'll only eat the fries. So I get a cheeseburger happy meal and give him some burger to try, whilst I have my double cheeseburger, the rest of his and fries. He prefers fries from a cardboard box as well.

YANBU but then we are vegetarian!

Seriously though, it is ok to have principles or beliefs that differ from other peoples' about certain things, it doesn't make you uptight or unreasonable. Of course you may be seen as such by others, but it is none of their business. Difficult if the "other" is your Dh of course...

Yum McDonalds

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 05/11/2009 13:42

diddi. I ate in one about 4months ago, without DD, as I had sever hyperemesis, and midwife said there were 2000 calories in the their milkshakes, which appealed to me! I had this and a meat burger, which is the first time ever in my entire life, as I do not eat red meat. And it was the foulest thing I had ever ever eaten.

However. It did stay down (is probably still there and shall not be repeated in the forseable future!

Contents of my fridge. I can be all gloaty here as I am nesting in prep for new baby so its all lovely and healthy:

I hate MacDonalds. I never take my DD I just can't bear to sit in the place. I'm not an uptight person at all just don't see the point in giving my DD crap food when there's alternatives. Lots of things are quick, I tend to take a sandwich if i'm skint or don't think we'll have a lot of time or go to a coffee shop and buy a sandwich there.
If I want to treat my DD to a small gift or bit of tat i'll stop off in a cheap toy shop or something.
However I don't care what other people do and i'm sure most people with otherwise healthy lifestyles who have the odd burger aren't awful parents so I think YAB-a little-U but I understand how you feel. Talk to him or pack her a sandwich and tell him to get a burger for himself another time when she's not around..comprimise is the key I expect..let the odd happy meal go

UpYourViva · 05/11/2009 14:34

Ive just sent DP off to get a happy meal for DD, saves the cooking

GrendelsMum · 05/11/2009 14:35

I don't think McDonald's is really that bad.

In a happy meal, she could be having fish fingers (with MSC certified fish), fruit pieces and milk. Or at least a burger with carrot sticks.

Morloth · 05/11/2009 14:39

I could kill for a cheeseburger right now. Kill certainly, get off fat arse and go to McDonalds, apparently not.

Does not eating the calories get cancelled out by not expending any obtaining them?

thatsnotmymonster · 05/11/2009 14:39

Biscuit Grin

mazzystartled · 05/11/2009 14:44

yanbu

she's 3 and doesn't need to eat that muck ever really

i think it's fine maybe twice ayeat in an emergency. otherwise he should indulge his dirty little secret alone and feel the full shame of it

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 05/11/2009 15:25

Mazzy Zzzzzactl

She did have a happy meal though grendlesmum she had a hamburger. If she had fish fingers would not be so bad. She loves fish fingers.

BigHairyLeggedSpider · 05/11/2009 16:30

Can I have your minibabybelles and your hummus please? I'm still at work and I'm starving!

GrendelsMum · 05/11/2009 17:28

Well, tell your DH that next time, he has to do the happy meal with fishfingers, fruit and milk!

He can amuse himself with the amazing interactive Happy Meals calorie counter:
www.mcdonalds.co.uk/food/happy-meal/happy-meal.mcdj

pooexplosions · 05/11/2009 17:46

How about he can bring his own kid where he wants and feed her wants without being told what he is allowed to give her.

And I'm still waiting for someone to tell me whats in a mcd's hamburger for it to be called "muck, vile, foul, brick burgers"? The problem is not the food but your perception of it. Thats whats really irritating about it.

pointydogg · 05/11/2009 17:54

fair enough to wish it. Unreasonable to do something about it.

Fibilou · 05/11/2009 17:59

Nothing wrong with a McDs every now and then. I was never, ever allowed fast food when I was a child and guess what, as soon as I left home I went mad on it. My parents wouldn't set foot in McDonalds and I got so overexcited when I went to parties there it was ridiculous. Maybe if I'd been taken a couple of times it wouldn't have been so thrillingly naughty.

I think it's stupid to say "you will never have this" - because all that happens is that child wants it more. We all want to do what we're not allowed to do.

And the nutritional thing is only relevant if you never feed your child anything remotely less than home made, home grown, non processed and non refined foods.

nicnacinoonoo · 05/11/2009 18:07

i get my ds the packed lunch from asda if i want something quick cheap and easy when im out.
its 2 pounds and they get to pick

a sandwich - ham, tuna and sweetcorn or cheese

a piece of fruit

a yoghurt

a packet of raisins

a carton of juice

and either a packet of crisps or some jelly.

they also give you a colouring book and some crayons i think its great value for money and better stuff for him than mcdonalds etc.
(the crisps/jelly are left until he has eaten all the rest)

he does go to mcdonalds occasionally and has chicken nuggets and a fruit bag happy meal. not that bad now they can have fruit bags instead of fries in my opinion. but he does only go as a 1 off

halfcut · 05/11/2009 18:18

All these my dcs don't have mc donalds ..wait till you have teenagers try keeping them out
