Vile place...he only does it so he can have a burger .

I would prefer she did not eat in such places, but I guess, he can take her where he wants when he takes her out.

IABU aren't i?

TheFoosa · 04/11/2009 18:48

oh bugger

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 04/11/2009 18:50

I can't really use it on my own thread can i? I so want to. I might have to go scour some threads just so I can use it...

It really is no big deal. DD goes mainly for the experience - she is is awe of the place and nibbles at chips and plays with the Toys.

I really don't understand Mums crying or getting stressed about MD. I mean it is just a bit of fast food, once in a blue moon.

There are worse things you can eat.

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 04/11/2009 18:53

Like what though? What is worse than brick burgers and plastic crap?

OP posts:
TheFoosa · 04/11/2009 18:56

definately subway

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 04/11/2009 18:58

On par maybe, not sure I would say worse? Perhaps KFC is worse? I cannot say, I am not sure I have ever had one...

how difficult is it to get baked potatoes wrong? not very in their case

TheFoosa · 04/11/2009 18:59

PavlovtheForgetfulCat · 04/11/2009 18:59

There is one near burger king I think. alongisde Juice Moose - burger king is always the busiest!

worse is - KFC, Subway, dodgy kebab places with chips...oh I dunno. They don't seem to be these super size burgers, the meals are quite small....

ok scraping here lol

cakeywakeywhizzbangmakey · 04/11/2009 19:38

I don't think you are being unreasonable. My DD has never had a McDonalds and I'm going to keep it that way for as long as I can.

I looooooove McDonalds when I want a junk-food fix, but I don't want her getting a taste for it. Ever if I can help it.

Also, my nieces are always at the golden arches, and, when we have to describe roast beef and potatoes as 'just like burger and fries, but bigger' to get one of them to even contemplate eating them, I feel that I'm making the right decision.

pooexplosions · 04/11/2009 20:05

what do people imagine is in mcd's food? Its a burger, its 100% beef in a bread bun, or nuggets, all chickenbreast, and some fries. Big bloody deal, its not rat poison, its perfectly fine food, much improved since years ago. Avoid the shakes and ice creams, ask for unsalted fries, get milk as a drink and the fruit bag if you're really bothered.
Its probably "healthier" than a great number of other things you happily serve up.

I can't stand the ridiculous, mindless, demonisation of such places. All you are really doing is teaching a child that some foods are "bad", and probably making them all the more appealing.
Oh and a "Horrendous McD's balloon"? How is it any worse than any other bloody balloon?

Honestly I couldn't care less if people eat there every day, or hate it and never go but this preciousness about just how vile and tacky it is, how the little darlings shall never darken the drive through...its just one big pretentious yawn....

jasper · 04/11/2009 20:12

pooexplosions, well said.

TheFoosa · 04/11/2009 20:27

my dp has said he is going to take dd (7) to the pub for a game of pool - now THAT is being unreasonable

diddl · 04/11/2009 20:28

I need to know complete contents of your fridge and freezer before I can decide whether of not YABU.

And have you ever eaten there?

halfcut · 04/11/2009 20:31

I'm with pooexplosions on this ...makes me laugh when people say well my dcs are 25 and they have never had a mcdonalds ..like its some kind of oneupmumship

Iggi999 · 04/11/2009 20:35

Make your DH watch Supersize me, and then see if he's still happy putting that in your DC's tummy.

Stayingsunnygirl · 04/11/2009 20:37

You could suggest Bella Italia, Pavlov. The Italian burger there is absolutely the best burger dh has ever had, and your dd could have something equally yummy.

But the people who are saying that the occasional visit to McD's shouldn't be a major issue are right. My dses have a very varied diet, and left to themselves to choose their meals, they could go for anything from supernoodles to steak or from pasta to lobster (though the lobster tends only to be if someone else is paying - lol - and it only happened once).

pooexplosions · 04/11/2009 20:45

supersize me only relevant if he was force feeding child mcd's 3x a day every day for a month. And supersizing whenever asked. And child didn't walk or move much for more than 20 mins a day. Sheesh.

Iggi999 · 04/11/2009 20:54

Er, no - there is lots of stuff in Supersize me apart from Morgan's experiment - they ask a nuitritionist how often it is advisable to eat fast food - their recommendation was "never"!

jasper · 04/11/2009 20:56

supersize me is the most flaw ridden piece of rubbish I have ever watched.

There is a five star restaurant near me . All the food is top quality, organic and locally grown.

Go there every day for a month for breakfast , lunch and dinner and eat everything the maitre d' recommends.

You will end up gaining just as much weight as the bloke in supersize me.

Iggi999 · 04/11/2009 21:01
  • but nobody does that Jasper. Or even comes close. The relative cheapness of fast food outlets leads to greater use of them. Lots of Americans (it would appear) visit fast food places on a daily basis. I know lots of children in UK who go to McD every day for their lunch. Could anyone actually recommend that?
And I am at their advertising tactics regarding children.
pooexplosions · 04/11/2009 21:07

Er, define fast food for a start. And a nutritionist said that?Big surprise! So I imagine you ony feed your children foods a nutritionist might approve of then....wheatgrass juice and brown rice everyday in your house then?

jasper · 04/11/2009 21:07

so what that noone actually goes to my posh local gaff for all meals?

If they did they would be fat and unhealthy.

I could make a film about it but middle class people would not get the chance to look down their nose in the same way they do with `Mcdonalds. I am not recommending going to either McDOnalds OR Poshcountry Hotel every day.
