to let ds have long hair?

PFB Ds is 26mnths, until he was one he had 2 inches of white hair stood on end, he looked like a dandelion clock, that was cute, everyone loved it, now its long and floppy everyone has something to say!

family members saying hell need it tied up for nursery, thinking its funny to try plaiting it and so on.

A Complete stranger told me ill damage him making him look like a girl! Had another older lady say to her friend 'someone wanted a girl' I have a dd she is 10mnths, granted she is bald, but that has nothing to do with his hair!

Me and dp love his hair, and personally i dont think he looks girly.

Why does everyone think all boys need a short back and sides, am i alone on this one, are longer hair boys so rare?

this is ds with long hair is that really so unacceptable?

No yanbu, my DS was just the same (very similar to your wee boy actually ) and I only got his hair cut the other week. Because it did look like he had it in a bob. He'd had it trimmed a couple of weeks previously, but seemed to grow really fast.

I love wee boys with long hair, just so long as it doesnt annoy them . To hell with what anyone else thinks. He is obviously a boy, especially if you don't dress him in pink.. LOL

beaniesinthebucketagain · 21/10/2009 13:48

sunchild- ill admit to pink once, but it was a one off, wind poor old dad up, it was a pink tshirt with, 'real men wear pink' on it! hehe!

Little boys with longish hair - cute as buttons as long as it's clean and nit free. Teenage boys with oily, dirty, smelly hair hanging in their eyes - not nice. YANBU and he is cuter than a cute thing!

BurningBuntingFlipFlop · 25/11/2009 14:49

I love long hair on little boys my son

i get through alot of aussie leave in conditioner!

Romanarama · 25/11/2009 15:09

My ds1 (7yo) has much longer hair than that. He has nits right now, as it happens, but it's only the second time ever, and the last was 2 whole years ago, so I'm not sure that that's a factor, and the shampoo/lotion/combing/whatever is the same process anyway. None of my sons mind me combing through for nits, though ds1 hates to brush it in the morning (for aesthetic reasons).

miserablemoralvacuum · 25/11/2009 15:20

tell them to get with the times...

my dad was suspended from school for having long hair. In 1956!

amusingly, my BIL's little brother was recently suspended from the same school, for getting a haircut that was longer than the one recommended for my Dad by said school... on the grounds that he must be a skinhead!

fairydust · 25/11/2009 16:10

I personnelly think like boys look alot neater and tider with short hair.

piscesmoon · 25/11/2009 16:32

I wouldn't call that long!

Tizzyjacko · 25/11/2009 19:56

Long hair on teenage boys.... as a form of rebellion, self expression or whatever, its got to be preferable to a tattoo or piercing. My DH got quite uptight about DS hair which he kept longish from about 8 to 15. I told him to shut up and save the battles for something that matters. DS decided to have it cut himself as it has got curlier and curlier and he didn't like the big head look..... As long as it doesn't smell too bad who cares.

YANBU. My 11yr old son has shoulder length auburn hair. He knows I prefer it long but he also knows it's up to him and can have it cut at any time. He has it cut about once a year and then spends the next 3 months saying "I wish I hadn't had it cut". In fact he has assigned New Years Day as his hair cut day - which plans my day nicely.

Occasionally strangers think he's a girl even though his clothes are perfectly masculine! He doesn't mind any more though.

Your son looks to me like all little boys should look. I dobn't get the obsession with making little boys look like thugs!

Just ignore 'em!

easyoptionwoman · 03/12/2009 15:18

My boys never had their haircut until they were five, and even now it is considered long. They like it that way. Unfortunately you do have to put up with other people's stupid comments but be brave with your and their individualism. As for the 'nit question' - mine have never had them, despite the long hair. (And to really show what a freaky mother I am - they only get their hair washed a maximum of twice a week.)

nappyaddict · 03/12/2009 19:01

Bean CAT is the term used for the private message system where you can contact a poster through mumsnet and MNHQ forward it you the poster's email address.

I was just wondering if you had any more recent pics of his hair? Trying to decide whether to cut my DS' or not and I think your DS has a similar style and type of hair.

JjandtheBean · 05/12/2009 22:25

i do, i will post one!

JjandtheBean · 05/12/2009 22:27

a bit messy but shows the current length

let me know if you want a better shot! hes a bit of a camera phobic atm, the modelings on hold lol!

PrettyCandles · 05/12/2009 22:40

Absolutely nothing wrong with boys having long hair IMO - as long as it is well-cared-for, just like with a girl's long hair.

My ds1's hair length has gone up and down over the years, partly according to how dh and I felt about his appearance, partly according to how he has felt about it, and partly according to whether I've got around to cutting it!

You may have to field a lot of personal comments, but really it's NOTB.

People make bizarre assumptions about gender: when he was a baby/toddler, I could (and did) dress ds1 in chinos and a button-down collared shirt, yet people would assume he was a girl because he had curly red hair. Yes? Boys don't have red hair?

JjandtheBean · 05/12/2009 22:46

prettycandles, that takes the seriously!

nappyaddict · 06/12/2009 11:05

Bean That link doesn't work.

aseriouslyblondemoment · 06/12/2009 11:19

YANBU i think your ds looks lovely and not at all girly
my ds2 is almost 6 and has long hair which has kind of evolved into a layered surfer dude style iyswim
what would people rather you did?
shave it off so he looks like a mini thug chav?

Fruitysunshine · 06/12/2009 11:20

Gorgeous son! Hair looks cool!

borderslass · 06/12/2009 11:29

he looks great with long hair my boy had long hair until he was 2 problem was he had ringlets and had people calling him a her despite the fact he was dressed in very boyish clothes thats why I had it cut got sick of it.
he decided to grow it again 2 years ago because he's hates the noise of the clippers and it drove me nuts ended up cutting it again.

JjandtheBean · 06/12/2009 11:48
