PFB Ds is 26mnths, until he was one he had 2 inches of white hair stood on end, he looked like a dandelion clock, that was cute, everyone loved it, now its long and floppy everyone has something to say!

family members saying hell need it tied up for nursery, thinking its funny to try plaiting it and so on.

A Complete stranger told me ill damage him making him look like a girl! Had another older lady say to her friend 'someone wanted a girl' I have a dd she is 10mnths, granted she is bald, but that has nothing to do with his hair!

Me and dp love his hair, and personally i dont think he looks girly.

Why does everyone think all boys need a short back and sides, am i alone on this one, are longer hair boys so rare?

this is ds with long hair is that really so unacceptable?

Its not even that long! some people always have something to say, you should move to east london, at my dds school there are swarms of long haired floppy fringed boys, I think they look great, I cant wait till my boy grows some hair!

notanumber · 20/10/2009 20:26

Nah, cut it and style it like this. In fact, copy the whole look.

Honestly, you've got nothing to stress about. There are a heap of celebrity kids with hair way more out-there than your son.

blimey, La Hurley is bonkers, isn't she ?

nooka · 20/10/2009 20:35

That looks like pictures of me at that age! My mum did the classic bowl cut on me for years. Probably one of the reasons why I let my children choose whatever haircuts they like!

Tortington · 20/10/2009 20:38

i have a pic of ds2 on profile ( i think) and he is 16 with long hair. short hair is for nits imo

thedolly · 20/10/2009 20:41

YANBU - I have two beautiful long-haired boys IIDSSM .

MrsChemist · 20/10/2009 20:42

YANBU
DH has very long hair and he looks lovely and I actually find it quite masculine. I'm sure when DS is older he will have long hair as well.

chegirlknowswhereyoulive · 20/10/2009 20:45

My boys have long hair. I love it. DS2 is on my profile. He actually has makeup on in the picture but thats purely for artistic reasons

notanumber · 20/10/2009 20:46

Romeo Beckam had lovely long hair for ages, despite his parents being a pair of scruffy tramps who couldn't give two figs for fashion.

pleasechange · 20/10/2009 20:48

his hair is gorgeous. yanbu
DS's hair is a similar length

beaniesinthebucketagain · 20/10/2009 20:53

Just showed dp the thread and weve agreed its staying long until he asks otherwise then i will say tough my way or the highway then i will reluctantly find a good hairdresser for him

Here's my two long haired boys

I refused. Flat out refused to cut DS2's hair for 2 years. I was nagged/cajoled/encouraged/belittled by the XIL's until one day I finally realised that it wasn't my problem. I did finally get it cut before he started school.

They moaned and - told me it looked gorgeous long.

DS2 is growing his again. DS1 is keeping his short nowadays.

Your little one is luscious. Do as you see fit.

sazlocks · 20/10/2009 21:02

YANBU.
My DS (21 months) has long hair too- blond and curly and quite gorgeous IMO. He is very much one on his own where we live as there are very few other little boys with long hair.

feedthegoat · 20/10/2009 21:03

I have a ds with longish hair too. It was about the same as your ds when he was that age. I just ignored it when people refered to my little girl. Lord knows what they thought of how I dressed 'her'.

mmrred · 20/10/2009 21:20

Your son is so cute - I think the main thing is that he likes it - my DSS has awful hair and is dying to get it cut but doesn't want to upset his Mum. He's 7, though, and getting very sensitive about being mistaken for a girl (he has very delicate features)in fact he was a little bit rude to the last person who did it.

beaniesinthebucketagain · 20/10/2009 21:32

im so pleased theres so many gorgeous long haired boys out there

My DS1 has long curly hair and I lovelovelove it.

My RL best friend says he will hate the photo's when he looks at them when he's older, but I reckon no matter what we do/how we style them the response will be "oooooowwwwwwww mo-om how could you??????"

To all those who ask if i wanted a girl I reply 'he has 3 big sisters!'

To all those who call him a girl I reply 'you must think I have awful taste in clothes!' seems to work.

Can someone tell me how to attach a photo and I will!

seeker · 20/10/2009 21:39

So long as the VERY MINUTE he wants it cut you let him then it's fine.

crankytwanky · 20/10/2009 21:44

I can't get a pic up of my boy,but trust me, yours doesn't look girly. He looks awesome.

Lots of slebs have long-haired boys. It's all the rage dontcha know?

(Although if my boy looked as feminine as Celine Dion's I might get the clippers out!)

SixtyFootDoll · 20/10/2009 21:50

My ds is six and has hair like Op's
He loves it and is always being fussed over
he looks like a little surf dude - in fact he is a surfer, he's cool!

I think beanies DS looks absolutely gorgeous and can see why he was scouted.

Some of the families in the area I live have little boys with shaven hair and patterns (omg) in them so I think my boy is a refreshing change.

I am channelling 'surfer dude' but don't think we could live any further from any coast. An ironic statement I think.

You can see DS's hair in my profile but am totally confusled as to how to attach it to a post.

oldraver · 20/10/2009 22:02

I left cutting DS 2's hair for as long as possible as I was bullied into cutting DS1's at 18 months and regretted chopping off his lovely curls. DS2 had straggly hair so cut it into short boys cut for a while. It did tend to go frizzy the day after it was washed so I have started to let it grow and it frizzes less now. I've never been keen on too long hair for boys but I will see how it goes

Didnt realise it was the in thing in certain circles. Wondered why all the bot models on M+S online had longer hair

ramonaquimby · 20/10/2009 22:06

why do so many mothers like the 'sufer cool dude' look? Maybe it's a mother to boys thing - I don't get it .
I have girls and really don't like all this floppy long hair on boys. give me clean cut any day!
